When dad took the belt to us it was best to just take it and keep your mouth shut. He rarely went to the belt, but when he did it made all previous activity inconsequential.
My brother was incapable of silence, so after the initial round he would keep protesting which only enraged dad even more.

My parents were spankers. Well mainly my mom. My dad had other methods or he’d be judge and jury and let my mom carry out the punishment.

My cousins got “the spoon”. It was classic to witness. The kids would misbehave and the mom would announce “get the spoon” and the wailing and crying would start. They’d bring her the spoon, she’d wack them good and send them to their rooms.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. Many think it’s child abuse (and it can be a fine line) but physical punishment does wonders for upbringing.

Usually, a sibling would want to go second, hoping the whooping arm got tired. In your case, going first may have been a better strategy

My daughter slammed her door when she was maybe 7. She got a shower curtain for 3-4 months.

My mom was more the disciplinarian and dad would provide backup. Dad was pretty rambunctious himself as a kid so he was generally pretty understanding/cool. When they went out for a night they typically came home around 12-12:30. One night (@15yrs) I decided to cruz the 1971 Ford 3/4 ton truck around town. I hit a couple parties, had a couple beers, little buz. I rolled home @ 11:30 figured I'd b good. Ohhh fuuuuck, that awefull feeling when you pull up and see they're already home. The longest walk of shame into the house. They were actually pretty calm about it and they didn't seem to know I was buzzed. Of course I stayed on the opposite side of the room and went straight to my room as soon as they were done.
Dodged a bullet luckily. I was on my best behaviour for a long while afterward, l did'nt want to give them a reason jack my shit up.
Now I wonder what the conversation was like before I got home. Was there a plan, or did they just go off the cuff?

Spoon, belt, tree branch, hand…..I’ve had it all . There was no time outs or anybody worried about hurting my feelings. It was solved in about .5 seconds with no warning.

I hated it when I was a kid and I thought my parents were assholes but today I’m thankful for my upbringing. I am nowhere near as brutal as my parents, but my boys still know what spankings are. Here's how smart my dad was, and how dumb my brother was...

My brother was in scouts, and my dad was the scout leader. They needed to do a wood working project for a patch. Dad's idea, make a wooden paddle.... So all the kids made wooden paddles to bring home. Holes were drilled in them to increase speed.

My folks kept that paddle on the wall heater next to my room, I can still hear that sound of the paddle being picked up. I've never forgiven my brother.

In High School, we were shitfaced and my buddy decides to take his dads F250 for a ride.

He pulls up behind a grocery store on the corner of Chapman and Hewes in Orange. Behind the store is like giant rolling concrete whoops.

He had us get out and hold his beer…

He makes a few runs, gong faster and faster each time and getting more and more air.

Then he loses control, truck flies onto Hewes and he t-bones some sedan.

Cops arrive in milliseconds and we were outta there.

Buddy got hooked-up and spent the night in jail.

You’d think that would’ve been a wake-up call for the rest of us…you’d think wrong
