Not that it matters but the oxygen on /in airplanes is not your everyday oxygen, it's a special aviator oxygen with hardly any moisture, or something along those lines.

Why would pilots want a flammable gas running near a flame? Just wondering the logic behind that?

It's not like you are spraying O2 all over the place. It is a sealed mask. Breath and live longer to fight the fire AND fly the aircraft. Without it you would be succumbed to fumes in a manner of seconds.

Well I was just thinking a long the lines that fireman don't run into a fire with straight O2 so why would a pilot in a fire be any different

Not only for the depressurization but the partial pressure of oxygen at those altitudes. You have the option to used a diluted mixture or 100%, situation dependent.

Largely a myth. Years ago there was medical oxygen that had some percentage of water but that hasn't been available for years. Bottled oxygen is the same regardless of use these days, other than price.

Paperwork. Same to some degree for medical oxygen. Both are the produced exactly the same as the O2 you use to cut with. Difference is mainly in the procedures and documentation in the filling procedures as well as testing to insure purity. Used to work filling all three types years ago. All three came from the same bulk liquid oxygen tank. The myth of medical O2 having moisture is because in non-emergency use it is sometimes humidified between the source supply and the patient.

Exactly, aviator oxygen is certified 'dry' of moisture content, this stops the internal passages of your oxygen system from freezing up while you are draining the tank and boyle's law is making everything cold from an expanding gas.

OK, I'm leaning toward they know where it's at, they know who has it, the search is to gain time to prepare. Really, just today they release info that the initial left turn was programmed in:rolleyes I'm pretty sure they knew that the first day. I just watched the 6 o'clock news and not one mention of the jet. :thumbsdown

New reports that 370 changed course before the "alright, goodnight" to air-traffic control and that the transponder was still on???? Also I was watching Hannity last night on FOX news and a retired General has beliefs that the plane landed in Pakistan on a Pakistani military base, and not one word from their radar about any of this, 12+ days later? He also said his sources are telling him US officials know ALOT more but everything's being kept quiet and that he expects announcements within the next 48hrs....idk just what I heard last night, if anyone else caught him talking?

Doesn't make any sense to me that it would be hijacked, then flown SE where it would run out of fuel before reaching land - as being reported. Feels like the public is being deliberately mislead.

I know people have their O2 tanks filled at dive shops. The medical places won't do it without a prescription, yes really.

Of course none of that matters if you don't have a portable O2 system.
