Spray glue some carpet or felt on the bottom of those pads...I built some similar for scaffolding pads, no way was I setting a scaffold leg on an Ipe deck
That's a really good idea. I have some scraps of carpet left from the boat.

40 oz. too heavy?

:p:p

Hey @Headless hula, just a heads up. That certain landmark, aka dive diner at the corner of 73 and BB where you turned to head to the original Hula HQ is no longer there. Currently have every fire dept. around fighting the fire.

Poptarts tub/shower situation needed some serious attention.

Place was built in '67.
Of course that happened while I was gone. It's a 1 bathroom house so, fortunately she was able to use her mom's which is across the road.

I started tearing into it on Thursday.

Got a call at 11pm Saturday night.
Was the ex wife. A friend of ours had died in a snowmobile accident.
We've been friends with their family since tyler started playing pop Warner football.

Got another call from my daughter at 3 am. Of course, she was upset. I wasnt sleeping either. Had a good talk.

The loss of Jerry will be void felt for a long time.

I've got a funeral to attend this week. Sounds like the arrangements will be set for Friday and Saturday.
He is still up in the U.P., M.E. and Coroners office need to finish paperwork and sign off before he can be transferred back to Wisconsin.
His widow hasn't even seen him yet.
His 2 oldest sons were with him when he passed.

A tree fell across the trail, by the time he saw it, it was too late.
Was conscious for a few minutes and they got to talk to him before he died.

God. Those poor kids. I think Chase is 24, and Dawson is 20. Good boys.

I've gotten a few more details since Saturday. Doesnt sound like alcohol was a factor. Too fast, and over driving headlights though. Who the hell expects a tree across a groomed trail.

Every time I've tried to TIG anything to a piece of plate like that it gets warped all to shit. It seems MIG, or even SiBr TIG brazing doesn't have that problem.

Looks good.
I tacked all 4 corners, then didnt dawdle around with the heat. Get in, get it done.

I've warped the shit out of stuff in the past. Learned quite a few lessons the hard way (learned ALL). Lololol....

Thanks for the details. I’ve touched base with both of the boys, but nothing more than making sure they know I’m here for them. Still hasn’t sunk in yet. Gonna miss him!

I have lost 4 friends in snowmobile accidents. We sold our sleds in 1999. I honestly do not miss them.

rode for 20 years in St Zenon Quebec, over 22,000 miles - not a scratch, but saw lots of horrible stuff. That is the most dangerous thing i've ever done. Sled's gone, miss the thrill, but feel lucky to be alive after all the close calls. It can happen to anyone - luck is the deciding factor.

Jerry was running the pop Warner football program when my son was in 3rd grade. Chase was in 7th or 8th grade.

I've been "Uncle Sean" to Chase and Dawson for 10 years.

Caught fish together, put 3k miles on my sled riding with those guys, Jerry spent a whole day with my daughter teaching her to downhill ski at blackjack in Michigan.

Pizza and French fries was all I heard for 3 weeks afterward.

I taught Chase to tie a tie. Showed Dawson to have some patience....

Going to miss their Dad. Jerry was the most outspoken, opinionated, biggest jackass, kindest, most giving, softhearted dickhead you've ever crossed paths with.

If you're kid had an animal in the 4H auction and you went to visit him beforehand, he'd either run up the bid, or buy it outright.

If you went to his office looking for a donation for (insert community cause here) he'd stroke the check (after you pled plead your case) no handouts for free. You better be prepared to justify just exactly WHY the organization NEEDED his bucks......

But, in the end, he'd have the $$$for ya.

Didnt matter if you're selling fruit baskets to send the band to some out or state competition, selling raffle tickets to the firemans jamboree, Jerry always had 10 minutes to listen to your spiel...

I had chills run down my back today while driving home.

What if he would've stopped with the boys, and in typical fashion, they would've took off. Which boy would we be mourning?

What if's. Jesus. I dread the thoughts.

It's bad enough to hear his wifes sobs. I cant imagine her wails if it were one of her boys that were lost instead of their father.

Kathy is a strong lady. She'll persevere.

Sitting here alone in cheeseland. Mourning my lost friend. Sitting here, trying to find the words to counsel his sons.

My hearts broken for them.

I need to get this out of my system tonight.
I'll need to have a calm voice tomorrow when I see the boys and maybe kathy.

Need to keep it together.

What a shame.

Enough sharing on the internet for 1 day.

Tomorrow is a new day. I've seen it here again, and again. Life is what you make of it. The power to make your life great or miserable is in your own hands. Choose wisely.

In my opinion, you have the ability to chose your own destiny.

Well his wife and boys are in my thoughts.

Even though I only met Jerry and Dawson at OG HulaHut once, I feel like I should attend a wake to offer condolences to his wife and sons. I really don’t care to set foot in a Catholic church again. I guess I’ll just keep them in my thoughts and prayers.

Lord knows I’ve been spared more than once on a snowmobile, it’s truly not fair.

Don’t worry if you do get choked up, I’m sure there’s going to be laughing and crying back to back for days to come. I’m sorry you have to go through this. I’ll be talking to you...

Thank you for not interrupting. Just got off the phone with @Tractorsdontfloat .

We have a scheduled viewing of blazing saddles before xmas.

It it truly disturbing that this all went down on the 1 year anniversary of my house burning.

What a fucked up date.

Sean said so many things that are exactly what’s going through my head.

What if.... faaak.

Jerry was a good friend, colleague, and pain in the ass all in one. His kids and my son have been best friends since kindergarten. I’ve worked with him, been a parent at games, 4-h fairs, and been school board members together. Damn....I can’t tell ya how much we did together.

My son has been to their place up there in the UP. This in my mind is like losing a brother. Fortunately, so far, with just finishing harvest today, I’ve been too preoccupied to have time to sit and think.

I will say that the few minutes on the phone with @Headless hula was therapeutic as I know he can relate to my numbness.

Rest easy my friend! We will help your family where we can. Till we meet again.

I keep trying to come up with something eloquent to say, but I got nothing.
Sorry for the loss of your friend. :(
Jerry wasn't EVER eloquent.... EVER. LOLOLOL
he was a honest, awkward, loving family guy.

We all appreciate your sentiment...

Especially him. Lolol...
I'll grab a couple pics off the facedork shortly.

He was something.... that's a fact.

One thing was a given. He was a die hard sports fan, and he was never shy about bantering with rival fans. Seldom got the better of him, but never won the argument.

Family, friends and faith were never a question.

Just read this last page...:(
Sad to hear of anyone losing "family", be it friend or blood, they are the same. Doesn't matter if it's the holidays or not, never a good time. What struck me was the comment about the "what if's".
It's a belief thing for some. No parent should have to mourn the loss of their child. Just my opinion, but I'd wish that on nobody. As for "beliefs", I am a real believer in "all things happen for a reason". Why was he leading? We will never really know...but maybe, in some way, he did. I don't have any answers. Stand proud, and strong, be there to help the family, and appreciate the time you had with your friend. Life's a weird thing, we never know how long any of ours will be.

So sorry for your loss guys. Words don't say enough and are often awkward but for this gentleman to have friends like you speak such respectful things about him and his family says a ton about him.
"Family, friends, and faith" line got me a bit choked up. Sounds like he set a fine example.

Not sure if I will be boating or golfing on Christmas Day? 40’s all next week. Not good for the local economy. But I love NOT plowing snow!

Last full day of work for the year. Looking forward to relaxing a bit, visiting some friends that are outside my daily radius, and getting some stuff done in the garage.

Just had eldest daughter graduate as a full blown Archaeologist, and all the girls are home, so I guess you could say we’re putting the band back together :)

Have a great day, fellers

Sorry to hear about your friend Sean.

I've buried a few good pilot friends, sometimes it just doesn't make sense.

Home from the wake.

Had a lot of good conversations with old friends.

The feeling of getting kicked in the nuts subsided quickly.

Was able to tell a few good stories of days gone by, and listen to few I hadn't heard. Was proud of how well the boys we holding together.

Their mom needs some rest.

She asked me to repair some siding on the house. I took look at it on my way home. Should be able to get it buttoned up tomorrow. Itll be the least I can do. :)

I'm not attending the services tomorrow.

Hope to get her home repairs squared away while everyone is there.

She'll have a houseful of visitors afterwards, and I'll be long gone by then.

We'll chat early next week. :D
