Magic Cable Box just got a bunch of updates / upgrades

Not sure if you guys noticed or not, but they added some pretty bitchen features onto the magic cable box to make it a lot more user friendly.


As well, there is some ultimate Irony in one of the features.. LOL I started getting some errors with my box, when I would go to open gotv or gomovies. I'd get that little window with the red x. So I called Dave and inquired about it. As some of you already know the box itself isn't just sold by Dave at myfreecabletv.com it is sold by a other people as well. The difference between Dave's version and the others is that he licensed the 33 channels, and has things like Dragon Streams for all the free PPV stuff etc. Well being in the world of what can only be described as legal piracy, some of the other guys out there decided they wanted Dragon Streams and those channels so they hacked the software and started putting it on theirs! LOL

So I'm talking to Dave and he's up in arms about this because they pay 1000's a month for this licensing for his customers only and he is telling me "Screw those guys they aren't paying for it." To which I promptly responded "Well it's not exactly like I'm paying for HBO / Showtime etc.. and I'm watching all their shit for free." The definition of Irony set in.

Either way to combat that problem, they started putting in some fail safes into their software so that it would require a passcode on the back end or something.. So if you didn't buy the box from Dave then the software would stop working after some short amount of time. If you are getting errors on your magic box, they upgraded the software so that now instead of having to go through some 40 step process of uninstalling and reinstalling, you can do it by clicking on one of the icons, and it will do everything automatically and make it "factory fresh." I will show that in this video.

I ran the StreamSmart app over the weekend and it failed to install which was weird because I have been using it regularly since I received the box a couple months ago...

Even though it's contrary to logic, the boxes run A LOT BETTER on wifi then they do hardwired. You always want to run them wifi. 55mb is waaayyyy more then enough.. They will work on anything above 15mb

Is anyone other than me having some issues with the continuity of the volume level at times ?? Don't know why and no program in particular, but many times I am finding the volume level fluctuates quite widely during a movie or show and I have to crank it up or down accordingly ?!?

People ask me all the time "what do you mean you can watch anything?" What I mean is the more proficient you get at the box and the more you explore it you can truly watch f'n anything!

I was watching a live feed some the international space station last night! Just watching some astronaut work on his lap top and a bunch of shit floating around in the air..

It's under world news, NASA TV, NASA TV HD in case you are wondering.

Shortly after that I watched portions of a three hour ppv deal that was a rap battle deal. Lol. I didn't even know that was considered a sport?

Updated mine and cleared the cache. Took about 5 minutes. Thanks for the videos.

I still love this box. Sure it has a couple of corks but how do you go wrong with the money spent?

FYI for anybody watching new movies that doesn't already know. Under the server selection HD is obviously an HD movie, SD is just as good with some odd Chinese subtitles sometimes, CAM and a flat video from a camera. Don't watch them unless your desperate. Normally the HD movies are on in about a month after the release in SD or HD.

The stream Smart app worked to update my box. I had to shut it off and reboot 3 times after update to get everything to work, but now it is working great with updated software. Thanks for the video.

I was getting it until last night. I powered the box down and ran it again and it wasn't moving so I unplugged the power to it for a bit then did it and it took.

Alright guys.. Just went through this program with Dave right now, and the good news is it was very simple to do.

Get an SD card (bigger then 1 gig). Put SD Card in the side of box.
Goto home screen / front page. In the bottom right hand corner you will see a button that says "OTA" click that.
It will bring up a screen that has what version you are running etc.. At the bottom of that it will say Available updates or something like that. Click that.
It will pop a window that says "Clear Cache" "Clear Data" on mine just the cache had a check mark next to it. Make sure both are check marked and hit ok..

You have effectively erased your box now. There's a few other steps in here I'm sure I'm missing from memory but it's all pretty self explanatory.

Now you will get back to your home screen and you will have to click Settings.
Click Wifi and your network WILL NOT SHOW UP. Look up at the top of the screen and there is a toggle switch that will currently say "OFF" Click that and it will turn to ON. Connect the wifi.

Go into XBMC, goto Videos, click the add ons button underneath it. Click Stream Smart wizard and let it install.

You have now upgraded the Android box to the lastest OPERATING SYSTEM called Gotham 13, and you have now upgraded to the latest versions of XBMC etc..

This upgrade is HUGE. The box will run 80% faster then it did before and more efficiently. You will never have to use an SD card again in the box, because it's all done remotely now for future upgrades. On top of that there is even a tech support deal where if you get really fucked up you can call Dave and he can jump on your box remotely and do whatever needs to be done! (He said he hasn't had a need for that yet, but he can do it if need be)


On a second announcement all of our boxes are Dual core processors. They now have a quad core Box that is stupid fast. Dave will be selling those shortly for 50.00 more then the normal box.

I did the SD card upgrade Dave is talking about 3 weeks ago and it makes a huge difference. It's almost to the point where it isn't frustrating any more. I do get the occasional glitch, but these systems are getting better.

Dave talked me through it on Voxer. Blah! It seems to have fixed my connection problems I was having, but I will be going back to cable internet and off DSL in feb. Dave says that will help, but I'm not sold that is what my problem was. I think it was software related.
I do still occasionally have an issue where no text is on the screen. Basically all of the lettering everywhere is gone, but the pictures all still show up. Happened again last night.

Now everything appears to be in perspective and much cleaner.
