Just sat through a class on heat pump water heaters. If you’re replacing an electric water heater, (small % of CA), the payback is fairly quick. If you’re replacing a gas heater, it’s just plain expensive. Very expensive. It will work on 120v but not well and a much slower refresh. Good luck running new electrical to it to make it work right.

This is the real issue. These quacks want to push electric, but the switch from gas, the correct way, with correct power supply is insane expensive!

The biggest issue will be fitting a heat pump WH where a gas or regular electric unit once was. I have a client that lives in a condo in Redondo beach. There ekectric unit is under the kitchen countertop. Literally built in place. No where else in the condo to fit one. And there is a lot of condos there the same. The new units are huge in comparison.

Add home furnaces. Now low nox units are required. Adds another few hundred bucks to an already expensive replacement.

Dam, what are you dudes eating. I got some power houses that live with me, yet can't remember the last toilet plug.
Home depot Glacier bay $100 toilet can definitely take a punch. Short lever pull give a liquid flush, hold it down and it removes all the debris.
Keep chop sticks handy just incase.

Anyone want to buy a house in La Mirada? I am ready to haul ass and let the wackos have this state. I am afraid that it is too far gone and too many dirty corrupt people drunk with power, who fixed the system to stay in office. My greatest hope is that Trump tells Newsom to do whatever he wants but the state no longer gets any federal money.

Sorry but all of this crap makes me insane. I am so tired of being told what we can and cannot have or do.

It’s not about the plug, it’s about clearing the bowl.

We had a sales rep and Ca state reps in the room with us. I tried to explain that I don’t have anymore room on my panel for another circuit. The EV charger maxed me out. I’d have to replace the panel and run electrical. How did that fit into the payback. @NicPaus is spot on. Super tall units. Going to be a lot of replacements before the ban.

Does a decent job at that also. Sometimes it amazes me.

Replace the fill valve with a Korky valve with adjustable overflow tube.

If you are just worried about sending it down the line, open the overflow tube adjustment all the way and it will put extra water down the toilet bowl while the tank is filling.

Also try eating less.

I've not had any issues with low flow toilets that use a barrel valve....they flush harder than old school 4 gallon units that used a conventional flap.

They must be paying way more for natural gas than I am. My gas bill avg is $15 a month with a gas water heater. Using the stove a few times only.
Or have 4 teenagers😂.

California now has emissions controls laws that apply to water heaters. They want everyone to have electric.

Starting January 1, 2027, new natural gas-powered standard tank water heaters cannot be sold or installed. Existing gas water heaters can be repaired, but once they can no longer be operated, they must be replaced with an electric or heat-pump powered water heater.
Buy a spare now.

I concur.

First experience in a renovated bathroom at the house this morning... 2 flushes.

Thought I clogged it. Nope, just a weak flush.

I put a 1.6 gallon FlushMate in my shop bathroom toilet and it works very well. It has that high pressure whoosh type flush that actually removes skidmarks.

We have had Flushmates in our house for 33 years since it was new. There were a couple of recalls on them so we have gotten free replacements over the years. Sometimes you have to replace the flush cartridge but it's an easy fix. They are loud though.

How about we package up Newscum... and send him to Antarctica
Can’t blame Newsom for this one. Jerry Brown got the 1.2 low flow approved 8 years ago. 🙃 7 other states have similar requirements

Our lake house at Lotto is all electric, compared to the KC house, which is a natural gas furnace and water heater. The bills at Lotto are about double what they are in KC.

They do golf balls somewhat as a gimmick. The real testing is artificial poo. Pretty gross stuff but accurate.

PS. If anyone is looking the American Standard Champion series is the best flush for the buck. High end toilets look nice but worry more about looks than getting rid of a big deuce. Put on in the kids bathroom when we had a full house. Stopped having to constantly plunge the old one.
Highly recommend AS Champion. I installed Two of those shit movers in my own house and have basically eliminated the plunger.

Meso is what they used to test with. Look and acts the part.

That said when we do a bathroom put back post restoration the owners want cheap and I just don't get it.

Installed a pressure assisted toilet a while ago. That baby was bad ass but wife didn’t like the noise. No more clogs from her son though. When I remodeled the bathroom she came home with a Toto. It works
I just had my gas lawnmower take a shit. Have to go to Havasu to buy one 🤦‍♂️ no gas here is Ca I guess

One of my pet peeves is low water pressure in a shower. I encounter this in hotels when I travel so now I always carry a cordless drill and tools. I'll disassemble the shower head and either remove the little plastic restrictor or drill a larger hole in it. I don't think any hotel management ever knows but I'm sure guests staying in the room after me appreciate it! 😁
I just carried my own showerhead, much easier that way.🤣

Might just want to invest in a shower head you can take with you. 😁

Ultra low nox furnaces have the highest failure rate I have seen in my career. Only in SCAQMD territory. We rarely sell gas for this reasonanmd have gone almost exclusively with heat pumps for our clients.

Auto start stop on cars drives me nuts

I deactivated the DFM, digital fuel management , where it deactivates cylinders to save gas,
My MPG literally went up.

Funniest one is CA requires battery operated garage door openers in case of electric blackout?
I thought pulling the rope was a good idea.

The rope is now racist. How dare you

How hard is to repair a heat pump? Or are they disposable.

I have read quite a few issues with the new water heaters. Some are dead on arrival.

… Couple of guys in a pick up truck came through the neighborhood 10 or 15 years ago… Giving out free low flush toilets and installing them… I think it was some sort of state run program… it’s never plugged up… And it’s still works fine to this day🤷🏽‍♀️… You got me???…

When building our house the wife questioned low flow toilets and whether I should haul some toilets back from a non low flow state.

The plumber told my wife the 1.2 gallons was to get the brown trout into the stream.

The shower took the brown trout down the stream and into the lake.

I just walked away laughing.

I find if you're running the big pipe 10" 12" stuff, it's about placement, you need to be able to get one end or other pointed in the hole, no laying it partially on the shore either, things can get sticky and waste a couple low flow flushes. Another trick is to hold your piss until your done then use the ass wipe as buoys and a solid stream of piss to kind of move things around.

Back in the day at work, I found if you happened to run something "shore to shore" best to leave it for the next guy to handle, still a joke with work mates to this day, lots of speculation that it could have been me doing it and I said like the toilet, your full of shit!

Today I noticed my gallon cans of lacquer thinner and acetone are getting low. Tomorrow I'm gonna go to Farmersville Feed and Hardware to pick up a couple of replacements.

You poor bastards.

You dont have a HD in your area to get LT and Acetone. Our local HD in CA sells it. 👍

Yeah. It's 15 miles away. I like supporting the feed store.
Does the feed store sell low flow toilets also since it appears Texas has the same requirements as CA. 😳

You poor bastards. 😁

These new low flow toilets need to be flushed 2-3 times to move the load down the line. So last round it was 1.6 gallons, now it’s 1.28 gallons per flush which equals 2.56 gallons or 3.84 gallons for double or triple flush. Sometimes things were originally designed a certain way because that’s what fucking works LOL

Maybe @RiverDave will chime in as he knows more than the average bear about this stuff.

Long story short I’m thinking about starting a smuggling outfit that brings contraband like high flow toilets, incandescent light bulbs, non spill proof gas cans, washing machines that work from free America into the peoples republic of California 😂

What other things could be smuggled in? 😁😁☹️
Water heaters
Gas stoves
Gas powered garden tools
Should I go on ?
