I am very excited to hit the first boating event of the Season which is the 2019 LOS ANGELES BOAT SHOW!! As I mentioned in another thread I have been in contact with the management of the show and they have given us 20 tickets to give away to Members of RDP. Which we will do all this week and beginning of next week.

So here's what you need to know about the show! This year there are quite a few Performance Boat mfg's attending! Not only are they attending, but several went BIG on floor space and plan on bringing an arsenal for everyone to see!

At the top of the list (in no particular order) is!

Nordic / Hallett
Eliminator
Shockwave
DCB

First up would be last years winners of "Best Booth" (by far) Nordic / Hallett! Not only did they bring the most boats, but they brought a variety from things that are affordable to things that are exotic! It was the biggest performance booth last year and really brought something for everyone. They would've won that title anyways, but it doesn't hurt that Thane and Johnny are smarter than the average bears and never forget the boat show rules with regard to hospitality.

Here's a few things they brought in 2018 that caught my eye. (Should be noted they brought a ton more!)

They brought the big Mamma Jamma! With the Lugo this is a seriously impressive program. I have had the opportunity to go out in this boat a couple of times and it's one of the only big cats I could see myself owning. Tons of room throughout to hang out and have good times.

BigNordic.jpeg

This 40' Hallett was an inherited build but turned out sweet!

BigHallett.jpeg

BigHallett2.jpeg

Family Decks (both 26 & 29)

NordicDeck.jpeg

Hallett 290 that was gorgeous inside and out

Hallett.jpeg

24 SX in either Outboard / IO / Jet configurations!

Nordic.jpeg

This one was an Outboard

Nordic2.jpeg

And of course they had to bring what is (to my knowledge) the fastest STOCK TWIN 400 HP IN THE WORLD! the 28SS!! Will run mid to upper 120's all day long! If you spend the time on props and setup 130 mph achievable!

Should also be noted this is the fastest single engine Bravo (styled) drive cat in the world as well!

Nordic28SS.jpeg
Nordic28SS2.jpeg

One of the biggest "Hub Hubs" of the industry right now is the new Nordic 35' Long Deck! A West Coast Cast with Ultra wide sponsons (capable of a quad outboard configuration) and a TRUE TUNNEL! The boat will be at the LA Boat Show from what I have heard and I'm hoping to get at least a couple of sneak peek pictures of it before then!

I thought I was done drooling over these great pics of incredible boats but you went and got it started all over again

Now to figure out how not to drool in public at the show

Last year Eliminator brought out a restoration, which was a "Fan Favorite" amongst not only the people on the website but the crowd at the boat show as well! Not only does it show the history of the company, but it shows how easy they can transform your classic into something that will stand head to head with anything being built today!

Elim1.jpeg

Most notable for Eliminator is they tend to set "Trends" with their style every year. This particular grey deckboat really stood apart from a lot of the field and brought us back to why a monochromatic gel scheme will always be timeless.

Elim2.jpeg

The interior a dove grey instead of traditional white, and the down to the subtle details of the soft glow cupholders. It really does having a graphic artist not only in house, but now in charge of the whole company! It wasn't long after this that they built and delivered the "cement grey" speedster that still has people talking almost a year later. I don't care what you build, if you have an eye for "style" than "cool is cool."

Elim4.jpeg

The 27 Speedster is a perfect example of a boat that will out perform the majority of boats in it's class, but is a perfect blend of West Coast Cat and modern styling. The subtle updated touches can be found everywhere you look. At a glance the first thing you will notice is the wrap around windshield.

Elim5.jpeg

Upon further inspection you will see styling cues all over the boat from the added lip on the transom and changed transom / vents.
Elim6.jpeg

Right up into the trident intake on the deck, the boat looks, feels, and performs the part!

Elim7.jpeg

When Eliminator Dropped the speedster line on the market it completely changed the game for the midsize Cat market. To this day I don't think anything can touch them in performance and this size range in an I/O configuration. A "Mild" pair of Merc racing motors in a 28 will get ya 140+ mph. There's several out there with big power that run absolutely ridiculous numbers. We can't write press releases on them, either because of privacy issues, or other concerns (insurance).. but think 180+ (no kidding)

The good news is Eliminator under it's new regime is tooling new models in BOTH DIRECTIONS! They are going smaller and bigger!

While it isn't much this is the first thing you will see about the 25 Speedster! Unfortunately they ran out of time and won't have it finished by the LA Boat show. Rest assured though it's progressing and you will read about it first here!

IMG_7444.PNG

They are also tooling a Widened 30' Speedster! If it performs I think this boat is going to be an absolute hit on the West Coast! There's a definite trend of people trading in the ultra high performance exotics for something that is a little more manageable, reliable and cost effective to operate!

Elim30WideBody.jpg

If you haven't caught the vibe yet "Custom" is back at Eliminator as they are truly building "custom" boats again. They are also building a 36 cut down speedster (light) setup for twin outboards.

36cutdown.png

I am thrilled that they have "broken the mold" (pun intended) and are now going after new markets with new models. I think they have a great opportunity ahead of them and I see them reaching for it. I look forward to seeing what they bring to the show! More importantly I look forward to seeing what they are bringing in 2019!

Shockwave is one of the most steady builders on the West Coast and one of my favorites! I love their no nonsense / no politics attitude towards all of it. They build family boats and stick to my very mantra of "If you aren't here to have fun, then why are you here" type attitude. This comes out every time I hang out with the shockwave owners at one of their owner organized regattas!

This year in 2019 Bob has said he will step forward and throw a real mfg regatta. Half of me says "why?" The ones that are happening are just as much fun? We will see what happens with all of that.

That said Shockwave came in huge in 2018! I love it when a mfg brings everything from 200K+ to an entry level and last year Shockwave didn't disappoint!

One boat that caught my attention at the show and I find myself thinking about almost a year later is this 26. This boat was built for "Schultz" whom I believe owns a pretty large power sports dealership in California. It says something when someone like that picks you as their mfg.

Shockwave2.jpeg

This is totally my style with the flat and semi gloss blacks and subtle everywhere.

Shockwave3.jpeg

I hope this 28 is a precursor to what they are bringing to the show this year! This is one of the nicest shockwave's from a presentation standpoint that I have ever seen.

Shockwave.jpeg

What I loved about their booth (again) is they brought everything from a very very nicely outfitted deck boat to something entry level. A lot of guys are only focussing on "Joe Refi" instead of "Joe 6 pack" (a term long forgotten in this industry.. half the mfg's are gonna have to look it up I bet).

They brought affordable boats that if you had a decent stash of cash in the coffee can you could actually afford. A good example of that was these small decks available in outboard / jet / I/O configurations!

Shockwave4.jpeg

This 21 has seen many names over the years and many different decks by many different manufacturers. It’s a great boat that will provide decade(s) of trouble free fun and have enough room to bring some friends with you on the journey. I hope Shockwave brings another one to the show and I hope they tweak the deck into the future!

DCB placed second last year in "Best Booth" not because of the quality of equipment they brought. God knows they always bring first rate in every category. Again I just like to see something for everybody.

DCB tends to focus on the upper end builds solely.. They have won best booth many times before though with stage lighting / presentation and most importantly beer. 2018 was all about the boats, although the monitors and seeing them use a lot of rdp video on them was pretty cool.

They brought the Spooled up M44 on a tilt Trailer! I believe this is the first west coast boat to get Merc 1550's! (Don't quote me on that, but I believe it is)
DCB6.jpeg
DCB7.jpeg

They brought the first Cat with Merc 860's as well! (Featured on RDP when it first came out!)

DCB8.jpeg

They brought the all new M28! Which was the first DCB to have a new "Different style" than the original "M" series. These are more fluid that low profile. To me it looks more like an East Coast boat. The new M33 has been out for awhile now, but I expect will make an appearance at the 2019 boat show! This will be the first time it has been at the LA show since it's inception. It also not only follows this but capitalizes on this new cut down style.

DCB1.jpeg

Look at the wing on this!

DCB2.jpeg

Their interiors at last years boat show are still setting the benchmark as to what is the "Best of Show." DCB has absolutely killed this category every year. It isn't who's the best it's who's the distant second at the show.

DCB3.jpeg

Plus I gotta say some of their owners have tastes! ;)

DCB4.jpeg

That is the last of our mfg’s that will he bringing a 3000+ sq ft booth to the 2019 Show!

I wrote these summaries of last years coverage to let them know we the consumer base appreciate them coming out to it!

I love seeing the new boats. It shows innovation and the lack of cookie cutter stuff. I am also happy for a selfish reason...trickle down economics! As new and improved baller boats hit the water, some of us can continue stair-stepping:D Never be jealous of the people getting bigger, better, faster stuff...it helps all the rest of us in the used market.

Holy F'n Hell...180ish in a 28ft hull? Part of me would be scared to death...the other part says hammer down:cool:

I think it was 2008 maybe 2007 was the last awesome LA Boat Show, when the top level was all boats and the bottom level was all accessories. I think the last time I went was 2012 and man it was a disappointment comparably, but then again the times were a wee bit shitty.

You saying this year is gonna be worth the drive and entry fee RiverDave?

Im stoked about the new 25 Speedster. One with twin 300R's would be the shit! Gelcoater mentioned it has a lot more room on the interior as well which is always my biggest gripe with these newer twin outboard cats.

You are kinda asking the wrong guy.. I love this shit.

If Barron is bringing their new boat(s) that I haven't seen yet. (I'm going)
If Nordic is bringing that crazy bad ass 35 with wide sponsons and a true tunnel. (I'm going)
If Elim brings any of the stuff afore mentioned or better renderings of the 25.. (I'm going)
If Howard brings a 255 with a 520 and is willing to talk performance? (I'm going)
If DCB brings a rendering of their new 42 11'-11 Center Console Then (I'm going)
If Cobra is bringing out any of their new absolutely next level boats for the first time in years? (I'm going)
If LaveyCraft is going to come out of hiding after nearly a decade and show us their latest builds? (Then Yes I'm going)

I love, live and breathe this shit though.. To me if anyone of those things happened I'd roll the 5 hours to the show.

The upside is if ya don't feel it's worth it you can hang out and you are gonna see all the cool shit on here anyways... Because while it's ten hours of driving for anyone of those things.. I'm spending thousands to bring everyone the best coverage of the show that we can. You will have interviews and again the most in depth coverage of the boat show you are going to find anywhere (in print / online / social media etc..) right here on RDP.

And yes we are doing the "Boat Show Report" yet again this year.

Before 2018 I hadn’t been for a long time because the last show I went to was awful. I want to say 2009ish. The early 2000s were better than last year, but it’s definitely improved. If you like toons and wakeboard boats there will be plenty there. I’m hoping for more performance boats and goodies. As a side note, I like Pomona WAY better as a venue. DT LA SUX.

Were going too, just can’t decide which day. Will have cash in hand and am wondering if deals are to be made on one day versus another (meaning will they be more willing to make deals on Sunday, the last day)? I have quite a few things on my list.

Advantage, Lavey, Barron and Cobra are all going this year. 2018 was the best show in a long time. 2019 looks to be even better. I am genuinely excited for this.

I've done a lot of LSD in my time and that could be it, but am I the only one seeing faces on the seats in this pic?

And the latest one that is being built currently! (Blue and White one)

Cobra will be bringing their all new 280 Venom Closed Bow with an 860 and a new 270 Python!

I haven't seen the Venom in person yet, but from the pics I have seen so far it's a contender for sure! (This is the boat that will be at the show)

How about Bayliner, Searay, Cobalt, Chriscraft, etc...?
Who is bring the largest boat? I remember going one year, and was impressed at the houseboats and yachts they wheeled into the convention center. It was well worth the entry fee back then.

This looks amazing. As far as I know there are no boat show here in Europe that shows performance boats in any real scale. Sure you can find one here and there but overall they go for big luxary boats and lean more towards the fancy side of the market so to speak. Here in Sweden we get Flippers and Huskeys...

Awesome looking boats and good to see some of the O.G. Boat builders coming out with new stuff.

With that said... will someone please put a nicer interior into these 150k+ boats and not the “Tijuana” shit that everyone seems to think is the latest and greatest. I can’t stand huge builder logos and diamond/baseball stitching that sends me into seizures just looking at it. We get it... you built the thing but for God sakes. I can’t believe that the high dollar guys pay money for that shit. Hence why Halletts fetch the money that they do. Classic/timeless intereriors/paint that don’t age the boat from a 1000 yards away. Maybe builders will start painting trible flames on everything again...

Depending on how long the Christmas lights take to put away- we are either going Saturday or Sunday. Always a fun time!

You know there are Mexicans in Arizona that make and sell tamales :)
Yes, but when I worked in the area I'd buy mine from a guy in a Ford Lightning, on Fig. Up here we don't have the same kind of vendors. So far just the one lady...does pre-orders, but a bit skimpy on the meat and heavy on the masa. My ventures don't lead down the hill much, usually only for medical stuff for kids. Phoenix is still a foreign place to me, still learning what is where. For the most part, I try to stay out of big cities. LA kind of jaded me after 35 years.

RD,

If you have any extra tickets the women and I could use a couple.

Thanks, Steve

I hear you...

Clients get the interior they request and pay for- the diamond/stitching and big logo thing is the current fad.

Like root beer brown, flames, fuscia, disco, and polyester....this too will pass......

Notables that are missing this year would be

RPM
Interceptor
Adrenaline (which is a shame I was really looking forward to seeing what they would bring this year)
Ultra doesn't typically do LA (if my memory is right)
