Radical romance: SoCal jihadists committed to terror 2 years ago, says FBI boss Comey

The Muslim couple behind last week?s terror attacks in San Bernardino, Calif., were each radicalized on their own at least two years ago and bonded over online talk of "jihad" and "martyrdom," FBI Director James Comey told Capitol Hill lawmakers Wednesday.

Investigators originally suspected Tashfeen Malik, 29, radicalized her husband after she came to the U.S. in July of 2014, then married a month later. But they now believe Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, was already committed to radical Islam before they met, Comey said.

?They were radicalized before they started dating online,? he told the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The pair burst into a holiday party given by Farook?s employer at a county social services facility and opened fire with assault rifles, killing 14 and wounding 21 before fleeing. They were killed hours later in a shootout with police just two miles away.

So far, authorities have not charged anyone else in the attack, but Comey said they also appeared to have been ?inspired by foreign terrorists.

?We?re working to understand if there were any others involved or if there were other plans,? said Comey, who was called to testify on recent terror attacks, the U.S. visa program and terrorists? ability to electronically communicate through hard-to-detected encrypted messages.

Malik was admitted into the U.S. on a ?fianc?e visa,? and the investigation comes amid ongoing concerns about the federal government?s ability to screen refugees and immigrants from nations where terrorists live.

Under questioning from committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, Comey acknowledged that the intelligence community is concerned about terrorist groups? ability to manufacture fraudulent passports and use encryption in communication.

Comey did not say if Malik and Farook, or the terror cell that killed 130 in Paris on Nov. 13 used encryption, but he did acknowledge -- as he has in the past -- that there is no doubt that encryption is part of terrorists' tradecraft, especially ISIS.

?The American people are worried, not just about terrorism,
but about the president?s inability or unwillingness to ? develop a credible strategy to destroy ISIS,? said committee chairman and Iowa GOP Sen. Chuck Grassley.

President Obama on Sunday gave a national address to try to
reassure Americans that protecting them is his highest priority. But critics have said he offered no new strategies to thwart the Islamic State?s global threat, neither in the U.S. not in Iraq and Syria, where the group flourishes.

?ISIS is a determined enemy executing a plan to gain and
hold territory, enrich itself, inspire followers worldwide, and launch deadly attacks against the West,? Grassley continued. ?Unfortunately, President Obama has responded to this crisis by trying to divide us, deride us, and distract us. He is doubling down on his failed strategy.

Thanks, the concept is simple...instead of posting from a regular post window, you need to post articles from the Edit window. You just need some fluff content to get to the Edit window.

San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook reportedly had multiple photos of a local high school on his cellphone, and amid authorities’ suggestions that the killer and his Jihadi bride possibly planned additional carnage, school officials feel they may have dodged a bullet.

“Absolutely. We are relieved,” Rialto Unified School District spokesperson Syeda Jafri told FoxNews.com. “At first we were very disturbed that something so horrific occurred so close to home. But we were relieved that it did not affect – physically – our staff and students.”

The FBI found several exterior photos of Rialto’s Carter High School, which has 2500 students, on Farook’s cellphone, the San Bernardino Sun reported Wednesday, citing sources. That piqued investigators’ suspicions enough to prompt a search of Carter and several other area schools previously visited by Farook, a county health inspector.

It's a really good thing these people were absolute idiots. Since he was a county health inspector, he had access to sooo many different places and could have easily killed MANY more with other ways.

Remember what I said about the use of Encryption technology? No evidence it was used in Paris or SBDO - but they sure as hell are using these incidents to push their agenda against encryption. Yeah, good luck with that...

The office of Speaker Paul D. Ryan said that at his request, House members would receive a classified briefing about the attacks on Thursday afternoon from Comey; the secretary of Homeland Security, Jeh C. Johnson; and the head of the National Conterterrorism Center, Nicholas J. Rasmussen.

The issue of computer encryption was also raised by Comey and several of the senators at the hearing. Comey has said that terrorists, criminals and spies have drastically expanded their use of encryption in recent years, making it difficult for the authorities to track their communications.

Comey did not say whether the attackers in San Bernardino or in Paris last month had used encrypted applications to communicate with extremists abroad.

But he said that encryption had been used by one of the gunmen who tried to kill people at an anti-Islam cartoon contest in Garland, Texas, in May.

Comey said that the gunman in that episode had exchanged 109 messages with “an overseas terrorist.”

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/12/1...-bought-guns-for-san-bernardino/?intcmp=hpbt1

Federal authorities are expected to bring charges against a former neighbor of San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook who bought two of the guns used in last week's terror attack, Fox News has learned.

Enrique Marquez, who legally purchased the AR-15 rifles that Farook and his wife Tashfeen Malik used to kill 14 people and injure 21 others at a social services building Dec. 2, will likely be indicted after having provided substantial information to investigators about Farook, Malik and their acquaintances.

Law enforcement officials believe Farook and Marquez discussed executing an attack somewhere in the Los Angeles area in 2012, but decided not to do so after four people were arrested in nearby Riverside County in an unrelated terror case. Investigators believe Marquez bought the rifles and gave them or sold them to Farook in preparation for that planned attack. It is not clear what the target of the attack would have been.

It was not immediately clear what specific charges Marquez would face, but Fox News has learned that he is the only person expected to be indicted anytime soon in connection with the attack. However, authorities say that other subjects are being monitored.

Marquez, 24, began speaking with federal authorities after they raided his mother's home over the weekend. Right after the shootings, Marquez called his mother to say he was safe, but that he wouldn't be coming home, neighbor Lorena Aguirre told the Associated Press. He later checked into a mental health facility. It's unclear where he is now.

No, Marquez is married to Farook's brother's wife's sister...seriously

Thanks, couldn't understand the way article was written, it did say the sisters are Russian.
This Marquez guy knows more than he's letting on and is going to do some serious time when they figure it all out.

Alright I don't know about Pomona yet but San Antonio was just a fire in the microwave in ER. It would seem that everyone is on edge these days.

That's the one from last week. I think Pomona is just a precaution because of whatever is going down across the street. Considering a microwave fire and Sam Antonio though I'm hoping whatever the Pomona stuff is would be something equally as stupid.

Bigger problem is they are winning. Got us all scared and stuff.

Ain't nobody got time fo dat!

http://ktla.com/2015/12/17/doj-shoo...acks-on-91-freeway-riverside-college-in-2011/

Disturbing plans to shoot drivers trapped on the 91 Freeway and students fleeing from a school cafeteria where unveiled Thursday after authorities arrested Enrique Marquez Jr., the neighbor and friend of San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook.

The two terror plots were hatched by Marquez and Farook in 2011, and included throwing pipe bombs onto the 91 Freeway to force motorists to stop, then Farook would walk among the vehicles and shoot into them as Marquez fired from a nearby hill, according to court documents.

Their other plan was to drop pipe bombs into the cafeteria at Riverside City College, then shoot students from an elevated platform as they fled in fear. Marquez is facing multiple charges following yesterday's arrest.

That's good to hear. However they did have one major flaw to their 91 freeway plan. They didn't factor in the thousands of cops who travel to and from the I.E. to the L.A. or O.C. area daily on that freeway that are strapped up along the way... let alone all the RDP types rolling around riding dirty with their assault weapons concealed in their vehicles. ;)

First thing i thought of.When im on the 91 east its usually to glamis and yes theres a gun in the trailer in an overhead cabinet thats easy to get to and a couple loaded mags next to it.Really only need 10 seconds and its ready to fire.I am sure i wouldnt be the only one with quick access and the new camp gun is a 10mm.

My first thing would be get it and get my family to safety as best i could.Hearing gunshots behind or ahead of you should be enough to go into action unless it popped up in front of me or directly behind me at that case were fucked.

Now got a nice 511 tactical case that looks like an Ipad case lays flat holds mags and gun inside nicely.Just gotta add a small lock to it and keep in truck while traveling since we normal folks gottta keep it legal.
