Not very many boats out yet… surprised by how many open beaches, but maybe it’s filling up this week.

We’ll be in Padre area Memorial weekend. Wherever my buddy goes with his small houseboat. Friendship Cove-Rock Creek area and beyond twice a month for rest of summer if all works out.
May or may not have that bumper hanging out while tied up next to nothing.

Had 4x4 pulling a forty ft 5th wheel,
Very easy.
It's been a long while since I have been...trying to decide if I should brave taking my Class A down there. I miss those trips..

Any pictures? I love Lone Rock beach!

Looks Great!!
I would think the lack of a mid fueling station, Dangling Rope, will keep the traffic down.
It has discouraged me.

FYI … just my opinion after the last two weekends out on the lake.

last chance beaches are all rocky and the NE coves not there much at all. I didn’t go all the way back because the water has been turbid back there

Gun sight had several big sandy beaches and surprisingly available

A few new sandy big beaches at the entrance to West canyon… but people figured that out pretty quick.

Rock creek looked good for quasi sandy because but not pristine… I would still have gone there because it was empty

Friendship needs a bit more water in my opinion..

Haven’t go farther up lake because I haven’t had too…

The big sandy beach directly across from entrance to Last Chance is epic if you can get it. We did for Memorial weekend. Far enough away to not get swamped but close enough to channel to see everyone going by.

Been going the second week in July for almost 2 decades on a 65ft houseboat. Powell never gets old and never disappoints. Looks like the cut will be open too. Always motor to Last Chance.

The Castle Rock Cut at Lake Powell is expected to be usable around mid to late June 2024 and should remain open through mid-August. Lake Powell's water level is projected to peak at about 3588 feet in early July, which will allow the Cut to be safely navigable for boats drafting up to 4 feet [[❞]](https://wayneswords.net/threads/usbrs-april-2024-prediction-powell-peaks-at-3588.9579/).

How is the launch ramp situation around Wahweap? I assume it is fine, but am trying to confirm. We may head up in a couple of weeks

Inflow (cfs) over last couple days has come up quite a bit.

Wondering if it has anything to do with a post I saw a few days ago showing Morrow Point and Crystals Dams spilling…

Maybe just less than 2 weeks… for the cut to be passable. 🤔
I think so. At current inflow/outflow rates it should be useable in about 10-11 days. Definitely open when we go on 7/1.

Hope so, we launch in a 65 footer on July 13! It's coming up a bit more than half a foot a day!

Unusable, use Main Channel

It has been .62 a day for a few days now. Looks like it is a bit ahead of last year. I keep looking to see if the cut is open.

While we are waiting…..what is the difference between the two values…..beside 3’. Is the low when the water touches it and the other when the consider it open for everyone?

It touched around 3580 last year. Shouldn’t be much more silt this year. So 3’ to minimum usable and 6’ to minimum ‘safe’

Last year, the cut was a short window of use for us. We really did get lucky, within a couple days.

I was crossing fingers to see level bump to 3590 this year to stretch that window out a bit longer but I am doubtful at this point. Just not quite the amount of runoff (yet).

I think you gonna be good for July 1. Hopefully I am the week after.

The cut is a silty, muddy mess when only 5' deep or so. Impeller eating mud bog. I still go around.

Interesting take. It saves me $85 in gas (22 gals) to use the cut and impellers are about $25 x 2. Plus I beach with about 3 feet under the props all the time and tend to muddy water exiting beaches quite often… No problem last year when the cut was only about 4 feet under the props on the depth finder… about 5-6 feet total depth. But definitely something to consider if it’s been an issue before.

looks to me the cut might be usable around the 24th or 25th of this month. The inflow reading for yesterday was really low, I want to think that might be an error

I'm an AZ resident planning to launch at Wahweap or Stateline Aux. Do I need to do anything in advance with respect to mussels, etc? The boat has not been in the water in months and is dry. It looks like Utah has a required certification program but I don't see this for AZ.

You're good for AZ. They inspect you on the way out of the lake on the right side of the ramp at the top.

This is taken from Wayne's Words forum and yes, Utah requires all non resident boats to complete the test and buy the AIS decal.
This link provides more info.

I know this has been discussed before, however as a reminder, ALL boaters using Utah waters, whether a Utah resident or nonresident, must take the annual Utah mussel-aware boater course and have proof of course completion in your launch vehicle (a printed copy or downloaded to your DWR Hunting and Fishing mobile app). This includes users of all kinds of watercraft, including motorized boats and human-powered kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, etc.

Boaters with motorized watercraft must also enroll in the Utah AIS Program and pay an annual fee — $20 for Utah residents and $25 for nonresidents — through the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.

Visit Utah's AIS Webpage for more details. Thank you for your compliance and helping spread the word, we don't want anyone to be caught unaware of this change when visiting Lake Powell or other Utah water bodies.

I wish AZ would reciprocate and charge every UT resident 25 bucks for antelope and wahweep…
