Maybe it is just me,

A week ago spent 4 days in Boise, Wife, Both kids, clean area, College football, Frat tailgate/party, bike rides and nice people, last weekend we were in Havasu, Same thing, great nice people.

As soon as I get back to the Shithole I call home The San Fernando Valley all I do is think about how fast I can get the hell out of here...

Stopped at a Taco place a block from my house for lunch yesterday and a methed out lady comes screaming at the kids that work there about they stole her water... Last Friday the Manager of the Domino's a few streets away gets stabbed by some shitbirds auguring with one of his drivers in front of the restaurant.....

Just gotta make more money.. I was in CA a few weeks ago and tearing around in my 500hp rental in Newport Coast, it was pretty nice. Not gonna lie my aunt lives in the best city in the US IMO, I'd love to move to that area still.

If I move back to CA it's gonna be when I make it big and can afford there or something similar by the beach. I wouldn't spend 2-3M just to live in Yorba Linda or Sunny Hills though.

That's how I felt when we lived in the valley. It's sad what it has become, and I don't think its ever gonna clean up in our lifetime. It may continue to have areas gentrify, but the overcrowding will continue and being LA City AND LA County, there is zero check and balances, or accountabilty to control all the homeless BS and all the crime and stuff that comes with it.

I wish I would have moved sooner, looking back on it. I feel we hung on way too long, but I'm 100% glad we at least moved when we did.

Was just down in So Cal for a few days, couldn't wait to get back to Idaho. Everyone was in such a hurry and it was all about them.
And then the condition of the roads... and the price of fuel! I'll stop there.

FWIW, ………..my only regret about moving to Florida is that I didn’t do it earlier in my life.

Same!

I’m the opposite.

Went boating every weekend the past month. I love boating but I miss working so 2-3 is enough for me. There’s nothing good to eat in Parker so I miss being at home. I live in Orange so plenty of places to eat. Also go to a lot of car events around here so I’m always busy in Cali. I’ve never been to SFV so don’t know how it’s like up there.

I hear you Jeff. I can’t tell how much more enjoyable life is being in Havasu. Each time I leave I have to remember to not be that guy I am in CA or HI. I gotta say to myself to slow down this is not the rat race…. Just keep plugging away and crate a game plan for your exit. Escape as much as you are able and next thing you your will be executing your plan and enjoying life a bit more. 👍 BTW, it was great to see you guys this past weekend and see the wife’s catch up. We look forward to the next opportunity that come up.

It ain't just you...

After my road trip with my daughter this summer, and visiting friends that moved up to Idaho, it Really opened my eyes.

Washington and Oregon were beautiful states, but Idaho reminded me of SoCal when I was a kid. It was like I went back in time.

Been looking at a couple different areas up there. It was an eye opening trip for sure.

Have you tried riding your motorcycle in the desert, mountain biking, going to a car show, golfing in the beautiful weather, or heading down to the beach... to help you forget about the local stabbings?

This strategy allegedly works per the "I Love California" thread.

its worse then this. if going away for a few days makes you realize what a shithole CA has become.....just imagine if you actually LEFT the state and moved somewhere else.

after a while of being out of CA, you will slowly realize the punishing effects of living there have been engrained in you, that most accept as normal or "everyone has to deal with it".

Traffic jamns at 3am arent normal.
ludicrous crowds arent normal.
long commutes arent normal.

the list goes on and on and unstill you escape it and live a different existence, you will then see how CA lifestyle has permeated deep into you.

the weather is great though.

I am completely the opposite... I go to places like Dallas/Plano, Chicago, most places around the country for work....and I always look forward to getting home...landing at John Wayne....taking 55 down to Newport / Superior and dropping down onto PCH with a view of the ocean, sea breeze's with the windows down... cruising up PCH to HB, parking the car at home, walking to downtown or pier and getting a beer somewhere with a view of the sunset and feeling comfortable knowing I am home..

I’ve always said if you can’t live within walking distance of the beach, you might as well get the heck out of California.

There are a few recurring statements in this thread and others like it that I agree with:

"reminds me of what California was like when I was a kid"
"my only regret is I should have moved sooner"
"going away for a few days makes you realize what a shithole CA has become."

The best counter-arguments that I also agree with are:
"I'll miss the great food"
"Beach life"

Counting down....805 days

You said the San Fernando valley. That explains 90% of it right off. Come north 30 miles and it is a much better place for now.
For now... Unfortunetly I have a feeling its only amtter of time until it starts spreading our way...

I've traveled all over the US, and the world for that matter.. I always look forward to coming home to my little slice of heaven in Ventura County, CA.

Yep..I was on a huge project at Amgen for 2 years where i stayed in a motel a couple nights a week. If I ever left Yorba Linda. 1000 Oaks would be a great place to move to. 👍 :)

I lived in the valley my first thirty years and can’t stand going there anymore although I went to cupids for lunch today. I hated going there but loved my lunch.

Yup once you go north or south of LA county things get allot better. CA shouldn't be judged just by LA county. But they do screw things up allot for us.

Boise is not all rainbows. i know 3 separate couples who moved there from cali and within 2 years moved back ( now this was precovid)
i dont know if you are retired or not but they all stated no work or low pay and the cold weather as the reason for returning.

just FYI

Moved to our vaction home in Parker in April. We just made the permanete move to Havasu and Love it so far. We both dread going back to work in Cali occasionally. Every time we go back it makes us feel good about the decision to move out of Cali.

Here are some cool things I have noticed
1. Young adults working at the car wash. Not old crippled hispanics
2. Framers put up an american flag when they started framing a new project
3. People actually talk to you when your out and about. This is taking some time to get adjusted too. In cali only people that want something from you talk to you
4. What Havasuvians think is traffic is not traffic
5. Music is different on the job sites
6. I have met and got to know more of my neighbors in 3 weeks then 30 years in California

Drove to California Saturday morning to visit the grandparents. Left Phoenix at 3:30 am. When I got to 60 and 215 I was ready to go home but still needed to visit. Stopped at A's Burger for a bacon burrito, spent 6 hours visiting, and drove back to Phoenix that evening. Born (89) and raised in Dana Point and RSM. Moved in 2018. There is no excitement or reason other than visiting my grandparents to ever go back.

There is no perfect place this side of Heaven.

With that said, we did an 18 day trip around Idaho in the summer of 2021 and we both noticed how nice and friendly the people are. Every time we spend time in Havasu we also have encounters with very friendly people that seem to be content. I think most people in Havasu are happy because they are either on vacation or retired, two things that will make you happy 😃

So Cal is hamster wheel for sure, the majority of people are grinding to survive. Hard to be present and pleasant when you have your head buried in a phone working like mad sitting in traffic etc.

I use to live in Simi and loved the views I had...worked in Calabasas...loved the whole Ventura/Conejo valley corridor ...all the great spots to hang.... From Monty's in Woodland Hills, to the Sagebrush, to Moz Budda Lounge (closed), Bogey's in Westlake...I can go on and on.....

Im sure my occasional return visits to California will remind me I dont care. Snowbirds are better then the 91,55,405,5,60 and 10 freeways
Thats what all the newbie Havasu resident say until they have to dodge snowbirds driving on the wrong side of the street and wonder why it takes forever to get from one side of Havasu to the other side on the 95. 😆

Another FWIW……….. lol

Florida for me is great………. But I live in a bubble!

I rarely drive on the freeway. But if I did, I’d be bitching my brains out. The 95 sucks. You never know when it is going to back up.

Speaking of the 95. I am unaware of any on-ramp that does not have the homeless begging for money. They also seem to have most major intersections covered too.

Speaking of driving, we have something fairly unusual to other parts of the country, but here, it is common place. These are street takeovers. Hundreds of dirt bikes, quads, and other off-road toys take over the streets in huge groups. Whatever goes….. goes! Wheelies, sidewalks, wrong way, nothing is off limits. (Google wheels up guns down Miami) What was once a single yearly event, MLK Day, has turned into a Friday and Saturday night event, all over SoFlo.

Since I mentionEd street takeover…….. We also get a different type of street take over. This is for the high horsepower crowd. They are taking over intersections and doing donuts, social media, and drag racing. This has gotten so bad, they recently formed a special task force.

We get some crazy local news stories. Mainly strange crimes. However, I am hardly surprised. One of the things I found out about Florida is that we have the most convicted felons, than any other state. Pretty much all the states have 2% of their population being convicted felons. Here, it’s 9.8%. That’s almost 5 times higher. So don’t think Florida is a crime free state. It has many problems of its own.

If politics is your passion, you will be served a daily dose of it in Florida. You won’t have time for National politics either. Unless you think it’s ok to sell a large public marina, owned by the people, to a private developer. Or trade a city owned waterfront park‘s land, to a developer, to build a high rise. Trust me, you will be busy. Everyday, Florida’s taxpayers are sold down the river by some politician. It’s an epidemic.

Heck, there are new laws passed almost daily here. It’s hard to keep up. Voting has become a pain in the ass. You have to re-apply for a mail ballot after every election. Any notice is designed to look like junk mail, in order to fool you into missing voting deadlines. I’ve lost count of the number of laws pasted about voting at the polls. Don’t bring extra water. If you do, you might be accused of giving it to others, which will land you in jail,………. it just depends on what color you are. This is the South.

Even though I love my life inside my bubble, I am completely aware that there are many undesirable places around my area. I just didn’t want the reader to think I live in the land of milk and honey. This place has problems too! It works for me. But I am sure it doesnt work for everyone on RDP. It can be a crime shithole just like any other metropolis.

I think I am done. Lol

Won’t be long and you’ll be cursing an MF thing everybody on your way to Walmart or Sarah park. It will seem like driving from Irvine to downtown LA at rush-hour.🤣
