Captain took the ship 4 miles off course to thread this needle and sound the ships horn for a friend on shore goes the tale:
Is there a way to upright that ship and get it to a dry dock for repair? Or is it a total loss?
The operator hired a Norwegian company to patch the damage, right her, and tow her in.
In the meantime, the Coast Guard is still opening holes in the hull to attempt more searches.
They can right that????
I can't believe they can even do that with something that big.. WOW! Sounds like a Discovery Channel special to me :thumbsup
What a shame, and a disaster for all involved, not to mention the people that lost their lives...Terrible.
Heard in Italy it is a federal crime for the captain to leave the ship before the passengers so looks like he might be doing some jail time.
I dont think thats an italian thing. Isnt the capt supposed to go down with the ship?
I guess in Italy it is a HUGE deal since they talked about it quite often on the news last night. Yes, the captain is supposed to go down with the ship.
Unfortunate and could have been a lot worse if they had not been so close to shore...

They just built a new office building that is 3 stories tall and over 200,000 sq ft. Built of steel and glass it was completely assembled a half mile east of the site and they moved it over and set it on a Saturday
Wonder if his friend heard the horn?
He must have been texting. :blah:
According to news websites and today's Los Angeles Times, a high ranking Itailian Coast Guard official ordered the Captain of this ill-fated ship to return to his ship shortly after the captain arrived on shore. The capatain REFUSED to return to his disabled ship even after he was informed there was a pilots ladder he could easily climb back to the prow of his ship. In my humble opinion this captain has severly broken international maritime laws and is in dereliction of duty of the position and responsiblities of his position and responsilities to all passengers, all crew members, and his employers. He is finished.
I was on a Disney cruise last week and found out about it onboard the ship. While we were watching it on the news, my 4 year old asked it that was the boat we are on.
Now this is some boating content!
Need a bigger depth finder!

Yeah, well, then he wouldn't have hit the shore.
Wonder if his friend heard the horn?
I heard there were Reeds near the shoreline camouflaging the Rocks. Otherwise he was good to go. :thumbsup
This should shut up the RDP members who claim a depth finder is useless. :thumbsup
Jetboats don't seem to have shallow-water issues.
Why aren't all cruise ships jetboats? :skull
Time constraints and fuel consumption.:skull
