Most of RDP peeps boat in waters with sandy bottoms. No need for depthsounders ,just hop out of the boat and push it off:D.
I've heard Lake Mead has some rocks but only 2FF boats there.

Tons of unmarked reefs up on Powell. Some in the middle of the lake where you think the water was deep.

We are constantly watching the sounder. The chart on the GPS may say 20' deep and were running in 5' of water.

Saw the story on NBC nightly. They said it was common for ships to make a close pass to this point and honk the horn. Was the same captain doing this regularly [most likely :skull] or does everyone do it? Don't ships have side scanning sonar to see underwater obstructions like bug rocks?!

In most case, captains not familiar with the area they navigate through are requested to call a pilot to get onboard to navigate narrow channels. This captain took his ship way too close [ less than 2 miles from shore] to show off.Doing a quick maneuvre to turn the ship towards shore [ his lawyer argues he saved lives doing that:rolleyes:] after hitting rocks will not lessen his failure to comply with regulations to stay on charted course.Him saying the rocks were not marked on charts is BS.

Actually used more than one thinks in Ocean Boats. http://www.hamiltonjet.com/

The Ferry Cats that run to Catalina run 4, V-12 MTU Diesels with these Hamilton jets. They run well for what they are.

They dont need to be Jets. There is no reef to cross between Long Beach and Avalon LOL. So it's a gimmic best I can tell.

They're protecting the Manatees from prop strikes.;)

can't drug runners afford something a little nicer and faster? That thing just sticks out and looks like it couldn't get out of its own way.

They are disposable. Each one has several open drums with gas. The runner will put a hose into each drum till empty. If they did their math right panga #2 should be waiting where the previous one runs out of gas.

They then off load their goods and ditch the old boat. Lots of them have been washing up from San Diego past Santa Barbara. Few crashed in PV last year.

Yeah, well, then he wouldn't have hit the shore.:p

Hmm you ever heard of reef's, sandbars, submerged islands...just saying the guy is not exactly a stellar captain based on this mishap..

They leave from all along Baja. Travel way out to sea in the outer waters behind San Clemente and Catalina and then head in at night.

Twin outboards are not for speed but for reliability of the delivery.

What a shitty way to make a living. Now free room and board for a long time.

Right there in the Long Beach breakwater. That thing was loaded with pot if I remember right.

Nice CF Numbers. LOL

There's more marijuana dispensaries in Long Beach than Starbucks...I can't believe there's a market for illicit weed when it's so easy to be legally.

It's like those Somalia Pirates pulling down a super tanker with one of those? What? Happens all the time and I don't get it. Those guys are like 200 miles off the coast in a ponga.

This is why lawyers always tell their clients to keep their mouths shut.
The guy is assisting in his own destruction.

Amazing stuff, ain't it?

The guy should move to the U.S and go into politics if he pulls this off.

"Tripped and fell into the lifeboat"

LMAO

My neighbor is a nurse, was doing her internship at Long Beach Memorial's ER.
It's amazing, the stories she told - on a regular basis - of the mayhem that happens due to tripping...almost always ends up with some object up someone's ass.

People trip, fall, and a table leg somehow ended up in their ass.
Or they trip, then accidentally sit on three large strings of anal beads, which are now stuck up their ass.

I'm surprised the captain didn't somehow wind up with a cruise ship or lifeboat up his ass.

"ABC News is reporting the Captain claims "He tripped and fell into the lifeboat."" -

Either he slipped from the last rung of the 'Pilot's Ladder," or he's lying once again. Let's see the bruises or show the world his other injuries he suffered in his little "fall." This cruise ship captain is the biggest incompedent pussey since O.J. He has displayed absolutely no credibility or brains. He really should really man-up, or shut the hell up and let his attorney speak for him. His thoughts should be on the deaths and other's suffering he caused by his own negligent actions.

Hey Boatcop. Is the Capt really supposed to 'ride the tub down' or is this just an old sailers tale?

I dunno if the captain really needs to go down with the ship.
Who wants to die?

But he should definitely be among the last ones off, along with his senior officer(s).

He was probably just in a hurry to get out of there before he got a ticket for no mufflers.

I'm beginning to think some of these cruise ship captains are picked on their abilities to sing and party with the passengers. This guy's comments make one believe he's far better at "stand-up humor" than piloting a vessel......I wonder if they can make him walk the plank or keel haul his dumbasse.

He's responsible for an avoidable tragedy
