WELCOME TO RIVER DAVES PLACE

It’s 83 degrees today, where I live. What’s the temperature where you are?

Saturday...Christmas eve it's supposed to be 79 degrees. was really hoping this cold weather (mid 60's) would last a little longer so we could have lit the fireplace on Christmas Eve.

I see the low for Key West on Christmas is only 52. That’s crazy cold for KW. Wonder if there will be a fish die off? I’ve been there for one of those. A bit stinky for a while.

College Station: 32 and dropping. Going down to 17 by tomorrow morning and stay below freezing all day Friday. North wind 20 to 30 with gusts predicted to 40. This is the first serious cold front this fall/winter. Hope the electrical grid can handle the load.

Being a SoCal boy I just don’t understand how some people can deal with spending hours of moving snow but more importantly have so many days out of the year that all outside work and play is lost. So Socal residents pay more to get 365 usable days, how much is the cost of living difference worth to get maybe 300 days and lots of snow shoveling and dealing with winterizing?

It was 12F in Millcreek / South Everett WA this morning. I've been shoveling snow, spreading snow melt and using the weed burner to clear the storm drain in front of my house all morning. It's supposed to start snowing again tomorrow then warm up in to the mid 50's by Sunday. .

Currently we are the warmest in the last week or so. Right around 50F. The issue is its like San Fran, the heavy fog and such mean it just soaked into your bones. Earlier in the week we were having highs around 39-40. The kind of fog where you just walk outside and are almost instantly wet.

Good times.

It's worth $0. The cold and snow absolutely sux. I suggest you just stay right there in SoCal. We only get three weeks of summer, and bears will eat you. The lakes are completely frozen ten months out of the year. Seriously, the kids said it was -28° last night, not including the wind chill. The first time they have canceled school in 20 years.

edit: Just a thought. If the summer days in Montucky are an average of 3 hours longer than in SoCal, how many "useable days" do you really lose? And you can't count the days you ski, snowshoe, or snowmobile in the winter. Those are usable days. I think it may be a wash. 🤔

It's not for everyone. Thankfully. Which is why I'm currently in AZ. I would stay up there all winter, but Jeff prefers to winter here so we have negotiated a compromise. I love all four seasons. However, I'm currently thankful I'm not at home. On the flip side, there is no way I could live in SoCal with the summer heat and all those people. I love that our nation is full of such diverse geography that there really is something for everyone. You love crowds and the excitement of city life? We've got that. You prefer flat lands where you can see forever? We have that. Thick forests of deciduous or pine trees? Take your pick! Desert scapes? We've got that, too! Rainforest? Yep! Arctic tundra? Yep Yep! Small town-rural villages? Yep! Artsy mid-sized university towns? Got it! Rolling hills of grasslands for hundreds of miles? You guessed it! It's really a phenomenal country. I'm thankful to have lived in 5 different states, each with its own beautiful landscape and people.

We are having some seriously screwed up weather here in Pa. It’s raining and the temp is 40 now but supposed be 54 at 3 am. Then drop like a rock after that. Check Friday in the screen shot. The numbers are actually reversed. The 54 is the early morning temp and the 7 is midnight Friday night. It’s also supposed to be in the top 5 coldest Christmas’s on record for this area.
