Huge equipment losses for Saudi today, and a mysterious train station fire. Many vehicles destroyed by houthis/iran, the people (hundreds) operating the vehicles are captured. They do not look like soldiers to me, more like a ragtag group that was offered money to hold ak47’s and drive mraps

The houthis are a military force. With tech so advanced that......There’s no defeating the great Houthi war machine.

NY TIMES
“The attack appears to have been an airstrike that hit two vehicles, the officer said.”
“According to a general with the Iraqi Joint Command, General Suleimani and Mr. Ridha, the militia public relations official, arrived by plane at Baghdad International Airport from Syria.”

Two cars stopped at the bottom of the airplane steps and picked them up. Mr. al-Muhandis was in one of the cars.”
“As the two cars left the airport, they were bombed”

Nothing will happen....

Are you giving odds...?

This results in a direct retaliation against Americans. People are going to die because of this. The only question is how many.

Give us details please on how people and Americans are going to die “because” of this. Like they lay low and wait for us to take out their leadership? And that’s when they retaliate? Are they sitting on their asses waiting for USA to make a move?

They are attempting to kill people and Americans every day. How do you determine what increased efforts are due to this particular take out of a murderer, who was killing people and American military men and women?

I am all for retaliation. I'm not a big fan of bloodshed...but there are times when that is all that seems to gain attention or prove a point. The embassy was attacked, our embassy. I was under the impression embassy grounds are essentially the soil of the country who's embassy it is. So, if true, our country was attacked.

As for who's bell to ring, I don't know. Militia, Iran, etc... I just hope the intel is good, coordinates are precise and the missiles fly true.

Oh please. 608 American soldiers and Marines are dead because of Gen S. Fuck this mother Fucker in the grave. He single handily introduced EFP explosive formed penetrator IEDs in 2004 in Iraq to Iranian back Milita. EFPs kill Abrams tanks let alone fuck hmmwvs like my friend SGT Ben Biske in 2004. God speed Ben.

Retaliation? What was done today was Retaliation. Are you high?

Don’t poke the bear.

But agree the whole thing is not necessarily a good thing.

Here's the scoop...

The U.S. killing of Qassim Soleimani In Baghdad on Thursday ends an enduring threat. At least in the short term, however, it will unleash Iranian retaliation. The leader of the external action arm of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Soleimani long led that regime's efforts to destroy its enemies and expand its revolution.

From an explosive campaign that killed hundreds of U.S. soldiers in Iraq, to supporting Bashar Assad's regime with legions of Shiite fighters and IRGC operatives, to conducting a campaign of bombings and assassinations and intimidation across the world, Soleimani was a master of his very dark arts. He was a serious and continuing threat to U.S. lives and interests. Indeed, Soleimani masterminded a failed 2011 plot to blow up the then-Saudi ambassador and dozens of diners in a Washington, D.C., restaurant.

Still, Soleimani's killing, apparently alongside Abu Mahdi al Muhandis, the Kataib Hezbollah leader responsible for recent rocket attacks on U.S. forces in Iraq, is striking. Trump might call it justice for this week's attack on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, or the recent killing of a U.S. contractor in Iraq, or an act to disrupt Soleimani's plotting against America. Regardless, it illustrates a major strategic escalation in President Trump's Iran policy. Soleimani's standing in Iran and the IRGC in particular makes President George W. Bush's 2008 killing of top Lebanese Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh seem irrelevant in comparison. This is a very big deal.

Trump's shift here is hard to overestimate. Until now, Trump had been keen to keep avenues of diplomatic intercourse open toward Iran. Trump had avoided direct military retaliation against Iran even after it downed a U.S. drone last summer. But this killing slams the door on diplomacy in a most public way. Soleimani was a hero of the revolution and will now be regarded as an heir to Husayn ibn Ali, the martyr of Shiite martyrs. Revenge will now rise to the very top of Iran's agenda. A global terrorist campaign of uncertain duration is likely. In the context of Iranian domestic political instability and deep economic pressures on the regime, Iran might also use this killing as an excuse to destabilize oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz. Each of those developments would require immediate American deterrent response.

This will also cause short-term strife for U.S. political interests in Iraq. Soleimani and Muhandis represented a powerful bloc of Iranian-aligned interests. But a bloc that was under growing pressure. They'll now seek to unify erstwhile competitors such as Muqtada al Sadr into punishing America for what has occurred.

Ultimately, however, the U.S. holds the cards here.

If it is willing to tolerate some U.S. casualties, the Trump administration can effectively out-escalate Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's regime and force it into backing down. But while lives have likely been saved by Soleimani's departure, the near-term future won't be pretty.

What's really messed up, first thing to pop in my head was "I wonder what kind of grass that is?"

I guess he was a "High Value" target. Another one moves up the list. It's a never ending battle. No one really wins. We have more men headed over...to what end? Either squash the problem, or walk away. No half ass stuff. Support the guys and gals...none of the BS cuts in funding or support. Go big or go home.

F em. Way to hit them where it hurts.

My dad spent 10 years in the middle east after “retiring” from the military. Two brothers spent time in Ryhad...one an embassy guard and one an independent communications contractor. They always said the only thing they recognize is strength.

We have that in spades if we allow the military to do what they are capable of.

I support this decision....
Our Embassy's may be on foreign territory's, but they are American Soil.... And should be defended as such.
This not only teachs Iran a lesson, it teachs all of Americas Enemy's.

I personally would have gone a step further... Like I have stated in the past... Take out a few key Run Ways on Iran Military Bases...

Let the world know, if you mess with us, Its probably not worth the price you have to pay.

Piece thru strength, and show of force when necessary.

I truly hope this motivates the citizens of Iran, to overthrow there current government. The vast majority of Iranians I have met over the years, are typically good people.

Me too, and this is what I don't understand. Tehran is apparently a nice city with lots of young, modern and progressive people

Yet, these religious heathens manage to stay in power.
