🤨 You think? If more sleep is a key to this, I'm already in trouble. I do wish I could sleep more.
I started tart cherry juice a couple weeks ago for inflammation and thought I might be getting gout (??!!). Side benefit is I seem to sleep better. Contains melatonin

I got an event tomorrow night where I gotta be in a suit. I have four suits and it appears that I’ll be fasting until tomorrow night if I’m gonna fit in any of them.
I'm in your exact position rn. Wife and I invited to the magic castle this Thurs night.

How long you been at it? I think my biggest problem is portions. I eat too much at meals. I try to cut down, but I'm right back in a week or two. Need more resolve!!!!
Portion control is my big issue too. I already 'kind of' fast intermittently but if I can make better food choices regarding amount and type, we may have something here.

Bout 10 days now?

Here is what's interesting so far...

20240213_093712.jpg

This is breakfast. Rolled oats, brown sugar, blue berries, cranberries, vanilla granola and bananas. It's a shit ton of calories for sure! 🤣

But I'm not super hungry. I'm just eating cause I never take vitamins on an empty stomach. And I wanna stay, consistent.

**You basically eat the same way you always eat, you just change the TIMES that you eat.**

And the side affects of stretching out the window when you Don't eat is...

You automatically find yourself eating less portions.

Last night I made a killer meatball soup. It was delicious! But, instead of eating a ton of it (like I normally would), I just ate a normal size portion, and was full.

I Think your stomach shrinks a little while don't eat for awhile? At least that's what it seems like to me. 🤷‍♂️

Damn Joe, that looks TOO healthy!!! 🤣🤣 Made it easily from 7p last night till noon today. Couldn't eat too healthy (sandwich only) as I have to go get my brother out of the hospital. Gonna have a salmon burger tonight (hopefully by 6p) with veggies. Have to break myself from stopping at a stop and rob to get me a soda. Hard habit for me to break, not to mention that most are $3.00 each now. I think it's always easier to have a support bud to help keep you on track.

I got you. 👍🏼

15 hours with no food is a Lot for a beginner. Just do the 12:12 thing to Start. Once you get used to that, Then try and go longer.

Unless you're diabetic, you can still have your sodas, just eat normally!!!

I'm pre diabetic and my cholesterol Was high, eating oatmeal, and exercise, brought the cholesterol right down.

My doctor told me years ago...

"I'm gonna put you on cholesterol medicine, cause you're not gonna bring it down on your own"

Telling ME, I CAN'T do something, is a Sure way to get me to do it! 🤣😜

I wanna be like Hugh Hefner...

His doctor said the ONLY meds he was on, when he was old, was Viagra.

He's my hero. 💕😁

Made it through the day and evening, no issues. However, I'm feeling a little hungry right now. Drinking water. Had my wife put a lock on the pantry and refrigerator to keep me honest.

As a kid I remember hearing how the poor children weren't getting breakfast. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, etc. That's why they have school lunches and free breakfasts.

But NOW the science says fasting is better for you, makes you sharper mentally and is more healthful.

Follow the science they say. The science is often wrong. Now tons of kids are fat.

Not that long ago the industry said eat six small meals. It's better for you to always have some caloric power in the tank. I guess that was wrong?

For me, I need to cut sugar, junk food and alcohol. All the fun stuff.

Doesn't it really just come down to calories in vs calories out? Limiting your eating window likely just means you are getting less calories overall, no?

Read Siddhartha. Now he was hungry.
This is how I look at it also from a simple view. I grew up being told that eating breakfast is important to kick start your metabolism and that its better to have multiple smaller meals throughout the day rather than 3 large meals, but now that doesn't seem to be the best advice.

For the last year or so, I started skipping breakfast and eating lunch late while still eating dinner at about the same time that I normally do. This results in me fasting from around 7PM to 1-2 PM the next day with the exception of drinking water and black coffee in the morning. I try to manage the portions of lunch and dinner and skew more towards higher protein options but I'm not specifically doing keto or anything like that. I have dropped around 20 lbs since this time last year without significant changes to what I do. I think that it comes down to calories in vs calories out like you mentioned, and skipping breakfast is an easy way for me to cut out around 400 calories from my intake without trying too hard. Now and then I'll have a day where breakfast sounds good so I eat it, and my calorie intake for the day is higher than I'd like, but I just get back to my routine the next and keep going.

I'm probably missing out on some things, but this is a way for me to easily manage things without it taking over my life and it's been working well so far.

No it isnot calories in/out. There is the hormone model i.e insulin. High insulin directs your body to store energy. The confusing part is doctors check you fasting gluclose. That just tells you that insulin is controlling your gluclose but it doesnt tell you how high your insulin is. High insulin is doing the damage not the gluclose. A better test would be a fasting insulin test.

I would see if you can get a hold of previous a1c levels The a1c is a 3month average of blood sugar. An a1c of 5.7 or higher is prediabetic. 6.4 and above is diabetic. Even a level over 5 is bad for you as it indicates insulin is above the idea level and is causing damage.

This is true as well. The A1C test is everything.

This is EXACTLY what I have started doing as of last week. It seems like a very doable option. I make sure I eat dinner by 7pm at the latest most nights, and I find myself easily going until 1-2pm next day with just coffee in morning and water rest of day. Most times I am busy enough at work and don't even notice a hunger at all.

An edit: I am 39 and 5-10-ish and 205lbs. Easily 20+ lbs overweight. Not prediabetic or anything. And I drink lots of water daily. Time will tell if this strategy works.

I think a big factor in all of it is how our bodies change with age. What worked at 20 probably isn't going to work out the same at 60. Do what works best for you. I'm back on the 8 - 4 eating schedule again as a couple different competitions are in the future. Less weight for me in these things means faster movement.

Some great information in this thread&some shake your head stuff...
A tip to help in the morning.
When you wake up there are stretching exercises you can do to help align the vital organs(liver, kidneys)which helps them function better after a night's sleep.
Stretching also helps promote blood flow throughout the body...which is like a shot of caffeine.
A local sports medicine doctor who helps MMA fighters recover after a fight was instrumental in showing me the benefits of stretching. It's amazing.

Just started this past week. Not eating after 6pm is a bitch!!!

First 7 days in the books though. 12:12 right now. I'd like to be (eventually) go two or three days.

Who else is doing this? 🤔
I haven’t read the whole thread, so maybe it was mentioned.
A scene in a series I saw.

You want breakfast?

No thanks, daddy.
I’m intermittent fasting.

What’s that mean?

From when I wake up it’s only coffee and cigarettes till noon and then I can eat whatever the fuck I want till 6.
When I start drinking.

Beth Dutton, to her father.😂

So I'm stopping eating at 7pm and not starting again till 10am.

15 hours without eating every day.

I haven't lost any weight yet, but I actually do feel better! 🤣

I gotta get back to 3 to 5 miles a day walk, but I just haven't had time for it, and it shows.

There just aren't enough hours in the day to do Everything that I want to do!!!

🤬😜

I don't want to get into the amount of weight I've lost in the past 7 years or so but it exceeds a 100 lbs.

Intermittent fasting on an irregular schedule. Once your stomach shrinks it's of no issue. Do not make this a regular schedule.
Fast Food....my single biggest problem....NO ok Del Taco and In and Out are still occasionally in play but decent choices are made.
Swim...Obviously I can't at the moment because of this Vertigo Crap but I will get back to it. IT HELPS those that move weight off slowly.
Nothing after 6:00 pm except water unless there is an event or dinner out.
I notably drink very little beer....now. 7 years ago I quit drinking for a couple years. Now I don't crave it.

I have about 50 more to go. Currently I just walk the dog so I am slowed down a bit.

Thats it. No Medication, no surgeries, no gimmicks, just sat on my hands that feed my mouth.

I know, same old excuse that so many people use… don’t have time. I call bullshit.

I work full time, have 2 high school kids that always need something and yet I still manage to “make” time for exercise. I even go to car shows here and again.

I’m not super man or anything even close, I just make it happen.

JMHO, but you might want to think about cutting out that oats/granola/brown sugar bomb out of your program. Replace it with some eggs or an omelet. Your liver doesn’t know the difference between that brown sugar/banana and a Snickers bar. The blueberries are good though!

Not at all, I’m sure there’s other bad shit mixed in there as well. If weight loss is the goal, sugar and carbs aren’t your friend.

Was at the gym today and thought I’ve trimmed down a bit. Maybe because I didn’t eat while sleeping. Feel good. No need to jump on the scale to verify anything.

I started fasting on every Wednesday, sort of a Lent thing but more to drop some Lbs. I’m down nearly 20 lbs, so from Tuesday dinner nothing until Thursday lunch, and still eat fairly healthy. I think I will continue and get down another 15 pounds. Makes the Boat faster😜

Nobody mentions..
Protein(Isolate) amino acids etc.in order to maintain muscle tone.
I read some of this and envision a whole bunch of Ethiopian marathon runner looking guys on RDP.

That's the thing about IF...

You don't have to change your diet, you just change WHEN you eat. Not what you eat.

I'm actually done eating by 7pm and not eating again until 10am.

The other day, I went to all you can eat sushi with my daughter, and made a complete pig of myself! Probably went around 2pm.

I didn't eat again, until the next day until dinner. Seems I'm not as hungry as I used to be?

Here is an interesting fact...

Second time I did Half Dome, it was a week long back packing trip.

When we all met at a friend's to discuss food options, he layed out what we would eat and I was like...

Jezuz fuck. There is no WAY I can live on just THAT!!!

You can only pack so much food, in a back pack, for a week. So I did my best to plan accordingly.

At the end a days grueling hike? I wasn't even that hungry, and could have easily taken less food than I actually did.

The body works in mysterious ways. I'm Still trying to figure it out.

Due to acid reflux 9 times out of 10 I am done eating my dinner by 6, that 10th time is by 7. I finished tonight at 6:15ish and I don't eat a lot, I have a cup of coffee with a protein bar at 5am before I leave for work and I eat an apple for lunch.

I had a typical day today.

Orange juice for breakfast at 7:30

Bottle of water after mtn bike ride at 10:30
A banana at 11:00

12:30 lunch -Salmon on rice with green lettuce and spinach topped by mushroom’s broccoli, zucchini, corn and tomatos washed down with coconut water.

Dinner (at work) 5:00pm
Turkey Sandwich on Potato bread, 1 avocado, bag of carrots and another can of coconut water.

I’ll get home at 9:45 and eat 2 ranch eggs over easy and maybe a piece of potato bread and 8 oz of organic strawberry lemonade.

I’ll eat fairly well all week and then splurge a little through the weekend. Last weekend I had Tri tip friday night and Saturday for lunch and In-N-out sunday night.

Down 10lb now...

I have changed up what I am eating a bit, but not a whole lot.

Gonna say I'm constantly going 12 hours without eating, and usually 14 to 16. It's easier not to eat in the morning, than at night. Bad habit I guess!

Anyway, just thought I'd check in. Seems to be working for me. 👍🏼
