to a change. Not the Obama style change, but, a change in the way I live my daily life.

With my access to food and drink, it's a tough thing to change. For the sake of my health, I need to lose some weight, get into the gym and "pace" myself with the libations.

So, at this time...........................I'm publicly saying that I weigh in at 234 pounds, blood pressure is dangerously high and my cholesterol would clog the canals at The Keys.

My first goal, 215 pounds.

Before you ask..................no. I DO NOT plan on quitting drinking or eating "Good" food 24/7. I do plan on using my noggin and being reasonable.

In my biz it's easy to get caught up. It's time for me to check myself before it's too late. I have lots of regular customers and friends that come in for lunch/dinner and a cocktail. It's easy and accepted for me to sit with that particular friend every once in a while and have a cocktail with em. We catch up and have maybe a couple drinks. No problem.

The problem is this........I have many friends and regulars that come in throughout the day. Two drinks with John, one with Dave and another couple with Rob and Jolee at dinner. The next day it's a whole different group of folks. You see how the snowball developes? At least when I was still with the FD I had a day or two to rest my internal organs. Not the case now.

So, when RD posted something about the new weigh-in or whatever I thought it was a good idea. Yes, the holidays are gonna make it tougher than usual, but, I've been through tougher times and I'm still livin.

My first short term goal? Get down to 215. After that it's have a normal BP and lower my cholesterol. My ultimate goal is to be at about 200-205 lbs. That was the healthiest time in my life, but, I was also younger and had lot's more muscle mass. We'll see.

Starting 11-03-2009 it's time to make a change.

Today, however, is a free-for-all :thumbsup:D

I know what you mean Roc. When I had a Deli and made pastries it was really hard to not snack on Tia Maria and Frangelico chocolate chip cookie dough on top of the carb riddled bread. I went from 201 to 235 in 3 months.

On the flip side, when I had chefs working in the kitchen and decided to commit to change and exercise it was easy to eat healthy.

You are the only person that can change you. If you don't like the way you look and really want to change you'll do it.

Good for you. I've been on a moderate self paced weight loss plan for the last month. I was 254 when I started and I'm down to 247. My goal is between 225 and 230. I'm almost 6'5'' and that is my ideal weight. Due to some minor health problems I had to cut back on my pick up basketball games and racquetball time for the last couple of years and slowly put on a few unwanted pounds. I hope to be down to 225 by the 1st of April.

Good luck to you.

True. Problem is, I'm into making some great desserts. Pastries are my thing now. How can I make over the top Apple Strudel and not have any when it gets out of the oven?

I just gotta make some changes. I ain't getting any younger, but I still have lots of things to do.

So Roc, are you saying you want the weight loss challenge to start before the hollidays as well?

If so I'm game. :D

We're about the same weight right now incidentally. I think I'm at 231'ish.

Can't make it through Julian or Santa Ysabel without a fresh apple pie either.:grumble:

I do weight training twice a week, and cardio twice a week........It doesn't just go away at my age like it did 15 years ago. I have to regulate the intake better, mostly portion sizes.

I'm not gonna sign on for a challenge, but when I had the flu a month ago I got a 15lb headstart...I was 220 and hit 205. I'm trying to work on the 205 and get it down to 195...while adding some muscle.

I cut lunch in 1/2 and I cut the beers at night in 1/2. It's keeping me at 205, but I need to loosen the pants a bit more.

I started surfing daily and riding my mountain bike at least bi-weekly. Hitting the eliptiglider on the days when the surf sucks or I just wasn't motivated to get on a clammy wetsuit with the outside temp in the 40's.

Haven't lost a pound... but I am in better shape than I have been in for years, and feeling on top of the world. All of my pants are huge on me, and all of my shirts got small. Surfboards just seem to end up in the garage for some reason too... ;)

Losing the "Trident induced stress" has helped my mindset immeasurably. I have literally never been happier.

I don't think I want another job... :D

Like Kenny Chesney says.........................

"Everybody want to go to Heaven, but nobody wanna go now."

Much like RD, I just gotta start this thing now, just for the sake of my health. I can't die soon, I have lots of living to do still. Besides, I still have checks left in my checkbook. :D

When I went in the hospital for my kidney stone procedure I weighed in at 205 and came out of the hospital 11 days later weighing 185. Am finally starting to gain some of my weight back but then am also hitting the gym 5 days a week.

I eat very healthy Mon-Fri and splurge a tad but dont go overboard on the weekends.

but the other is not to bad. It's the season for mountain biking out in your area right now. There is some good shit out there too.
And you'll want to get in shape when you go out and ride with some buds and see how you stack up. It's more fun then the gym any day.

Find some guys or start you own Cross Fit Group. It's kinds like P90X in that you do something different day. One of the keys is working out with a few other people. It's very motivating.

Yeah I thought about that. I have friends thatvare into it but they start their days at 6am. My schedule doesn't know what 6am is anymore unless I'm STILL awake if you know what I mean.

235! I havn't been 235 since my sophmore year of high school hahaha. I'd look like I'm from ethiopia though If I weighed that much. I was 6'1" then, I'm 6'5" and 310lbs, could lose a few though. I'll join the cause too......goal of 275 first. :bash:

I'm commited too. Finaly got tired of being back to FatAss status. Was down to 190 back up to about 210, I can feel it and I don't like it. Made a special arrangement with my boss, he is going to let me take a little longer lunch then usual, I leave the office at 10:30 am, hit the gym for an hour but stay as long as needed to get the job done. This schedule is going to be 1,000x's better then the 3:30am workouts...

That's the worst part. When you actually feel heavy. I'm luggin around too much these days and the older I get, the harder it is to keep the muscle mass. I'm gonna have to trim down someday, might as well now.

I'm planning on doing the plan again in January, and Hope to be down to 230lbs.. I was 325lbs when I started the plan in May..

Doing great. Had some salmon and broccoli last night. 3 egg whites and toast this AM.

I'm thinking about getting a mountain bike..............there goes my thought on "buy the best" vs being on a budget.

I'm going to start Crossfit...my brother and sister do it 6 days a week (brother was in good cardio shape already and my sister is in unreal shape) both said it is unreal how quick your strength goes up and your cardio fitness goes up. My brother never changed his diet at all lost 8 lbs and over an inch around his waist in 2 months.

Want to start next week.

Here is a website if anyone is interested and gives affiliate locations all over the country.

I had the same problem I weighed 185 - 190 my whole life and when I hit 45 I got sick and had to go on steroids for a while my weight jumped to 245 and would not go down. I got on a serious work out routine and nothing stayed around 230 no matter what. So I went on Nutrisystem and bam in one month 25 pounds and at the end of 2 months another 10 pounds. I quit the nutrisystems and went up about 5 - 7 pounds but thats all the Nutrisystem taught me about portions and no junk food. Thats the key eat 5-7 meals a day but control the potions and big meals around excercise you will be surprised how fast you lose it. I work out 5 days a week found something I like to do and it makes it easier to get the excercise. If you just go to the gym it gets boring but if you do judo or racquetball or what ever it makes it more enjoyable and you can do it with people. I am fencing and have never worked out so hard in my life it is a total workout and you get to woop on people with swords. I ma not selling Nutrisystem but it showed portion control and getting away from the 3 big meals going to 5 smaller meals when you need them.

Very true TPC. Many only see the obvious downffalls to being overweight......eye appeal, sluggishness, tight fitting clothes, no energy etc. Diabetes is a very real and serious issue with overweight folks. It can creep up on ya and the next thing your know you're a diabetic, almost no turning back from that.

You know buddy, we're getting to that age where it takes longer to get moving. When I sit for any length of time, it takes me about ten steps before I can walk without pain and without limping.

You're right, time to take it off and leave it off. With less fat comes less cholesterol and a lower BP. More energy and more quality time while I'm awake. I'd bet a paycheck that I'll sleep better too.

Hell, I don't have any expectations of being as good as I was when I was a teenager. Liek Toby Keith says, "I'm not as good as I once was"
Back then, I surfed damn near every day, played soccer every day and fought competively (and many times for fun) 6 days a week.

Then after getting on the FD I worked out hard, trying to get as big as possible (just because I was into the whole body building thing and I could I guess :p)

Now? I just want to be "fit". Like you TPC, I want to wake up and not feel like I have the flu. Aching and cracking for an hour. Fuck that.

Plus, I got kids and grandkids to terrify and nurture still. I plan on showing them all about having fun. I gotta be around to do that.

At 47 years old, I theoretically have a lot of life yet. Not only do I want to live longer, I want to live longer in a healthy body. Not feeling like I do now.

I do have some bad crap with my lungs from 9-11, but, other than that I have no excuse to get healthy.

As well as dietary improvements, I suggest you break out a mountain bike, roller blades, or whatever interests you and hit the wide open spaces on a quest to fall in love with nature, breathing hard, and the feel of smooth shiny bicycle shorts on your skin.

An active lifestyle is a significant part of weight control.

Good luck and best wishes, ROC. :)

254 a month ago. I'm 6'5" and shooting for 230. I'm doing a mix of diet, weights and cardio. Hope to be down to 230 by March or April. BTW do you sell those ROC's t shirts? Those are badass, gotta get one.

Great job guys. Its a healthy lifestyle change that will be easy once you get used to it. Get involved in some sort of aerobic excercise, jog easy for 15 minutes to start.
Its really smart to start NOW, before the hoildays. That way you can carry the mentality through the end of the year.

:thumbsup:thumbsup

I'm with ya man, my new office job took me from overweight to just plain out of control. With the odd hours and stress my BP was way high even with meds. My doc was really on my ass to drop the weight, the fat around my liver was causing issues too. I finally had enough about 2.5 months ago. I initially quit all alcohol consumption for 1 month, then I started with some easy exercising until I felt I was in good enough condition to start a real exercise program. Now I'm back in the gym 6 days a week. My goal is to get off the BP meds and whatever weight I lose is fine. I'm not so hung up on the weight as much as feeling better.

So far, I've dropped from 258 to 231. My BP is lower than I've EVER seen it, I sleep far better and have a ton more energy. I can't believe I let it go that far.

If many of us don't get the excessive weight off we'll be flirting with diabetes.
It's almost a sure thing now-a-days.
I was actually surprised that my lab results came back negative on that.

That's what I was thinking too. With the Holidays coming up, special events and parties to attend, parties and such at my restaurant and just the whole holiday "atmosphere" in general will make it hard.

This time of year, in the past, no shit listen to this.....................it would be nothing for me to stay after the dinner rush, talk with guests, finally sit down and have a couple cocktails. A couple cocktails turn into an impromtu party with whoever is there. Bring out the food, order more drinks, more food, after-dinner drinks then head over to a friends house for after hours partying. Every day. Every damn day. Wake up and get to work by 9-10

Now, with me starting a new lifestyle, getting through the holidays will be the hard part and like I said, I've been through tougher things than that so..................pffft.

Man, this public committing sure keeps ya honest :thumbsup:D

Now, I wish I coulda started Cigs challenge. I"d win that sumbitch and I could use a extra couple grand. Need to buy me a new bike:D
