A dreadful day this week on a local Socal lake. Water was clean (probably from fresh rain this spring) and no diapers or homeless people and did I mention the great weather? 83 degrees!

That’s because you were on a boat away from the main beaches 😂😂🤣 our local lake can be same way on weekends I call it lil Mexico on the shore but nice in the boat. Weekdays another story no crowds and empty.

Loving these taco pop up joints. Many bomb ass food places in SoCal. View attachment 1247711 View attachment 1247712

That is one thing CA has that most other states don't... good Mexican food.

AZ is the only other state that is competitive.

NM starts to have some Mexican/NM hybrid restaurants that are unique to NM. They also have some Mexican spots but not like CA and AZ.

Texas went even more hybrid with the Tex Mex. Good... but not random taco shop/stand good.

It’s not just Mexican food. Being Vietnamese, there’s a lot of good Asian food around OC. They also close super late which helps me cause I work hella late.

Texmex is terrible. Luckily, I found a hole in the wall “real” Mexican place a few miles away. I was starting to lose hope.

i e seen a few fusion trucks that sound interesting.
And some of these taco/food trucks have the night life figured out.
Don’t even see them till after the sun goes down.
One was slinging tacos at 1am a few weeks back, and a crowd of people around it.
I considered stopping but just wanted to go home to sleep more😂

Central Washington State has a huge Mexican population because its main industry is agriculture. I lived in Paradise Valley for three years and say central WA Mexican food competes.

That’s good to know.👍

I’m sort of addicted so anywhere I go I want to try the Mexican food.

Utah so far was the most epic fail.
Moab specifically😂

The trick with central WA Mexican restaurants is how many Mexicans are inside eating there. Sort of like good Chinese restaurants here, mostly Chinese eating there it is usually very good.

Pretty sure it's the same most places. The hole-in-the-wall, where the laborers get lunch, is great. The pretty place with all the retirees at lunch, their food sucks.

I agree with the Mexican version, not so much with the Chinese. I prefer a Panda Express honestly over 90% of Chinese places. Even the gourmet sit down ones. Something about Panda is just bomb, whereas authentic chinky always has this distinct taste and smell to it that I don't care much for as a white boy.

My first visit (1969) to what I would call a real Mexican restraunt was San Antonio right outside Ft Sam. Little fence around the place on New Braunefels street. There were chicken and goats running around. Went in, I was only pale face. No matching dining furniture.
The hot sauce embarrassed me. I almost got laughed out of the place. My arms, chest and whole body was sweating.
Went back so many times I lost count.

Funny you bring these up. Ventura is having major issues with them. they have zero permits and no regulation by county food and health. They open up next to or in the vicinity of real restaurants or food trucks that do have all their permits and insurance and pay taxes etc. and then take their customers away. People call the Police but there's nothing they can do. Police were citing for no business license / city ordinance but the vendors are 99% illegal and no way to really ID them so the citations are useless. also, Newsome recently passed a law that made it impossible for Police to enforce anything regarding them. The new law makes it a straight civil issue between the city and vendor. So county health has to enforce it and it's not on their immediate to do list at all. Basically when you eat at one of these, there's zero regulations on cleanliness, food prep, etc. They come up from Los Angelese, set up, sell and drive (unlicensed and uninured mind you) back to LA. This one, I'd say is no "Ca. is great" topic.

Same thing is happening in downtown San Diego, and they are also coming from LA. There have been stabbings over turf between these vendors. So far the city has not done shit. I would not eat anything from these food carts. Supposedly there is cartel involvement as well.

And all of this is to blame on the people buying from them . The govt has sold out the good people in America but those who stop and purchase anything from a b.s. cart or hire somebody with out a license are to blame . The vendors are a cancer on a neighborhood .

Love that place ! Loved it more when it was like 12 dollars a night but great place ! Wow it's empty too ! Your a lucky guy . Enjoy it
So the plan was to hit up every camp site until we found a vacant spot. First stop and the girl said they have one spot open. By the looks of it there are 10+ vacancies? But maybe people book a whole week ?

Lunch at Neptune’s before we got here.

$35 for the night.
