@sml

I'll post some stuff in the next few days, good idea with this thread. I've been waffling on pulling the trigger on a turbo sled for next year. Would like to know more from those who are on the gen 5 platform. Both of mine are gen 4 850's. Spent the afternoon riding around with my step daughter teaching her to ride on the new Polaris indy my in-laws got for her to ride. That little sled is actually fun as hell.

We ride mostly in the Leavenworth WA area, and are looking to start riding in northern AZ, and sw Colorado if anyone is in the area....Home Base for us is cave creek, az.
Had gen 4 turbo last year and gen 5 turbo now. More nimble, about 3” narrow in the body and more power. Don’t see any reason not to upgrade.

my first snowmobile, a 1978 Yamaha 440. It was lite and fast View attachment 1183436
Ha, my story is pretty similar. The first one my dad bought was a brand spanking new 1972 Ski-Doo 335 Olympic. It was driven every day from mid-Nov to early April. No idea how many miles (no speedo). The next one was a 1974 A/C Panther and it had 10k+ miles on it 3 years later. Have a Yamaha Warrior now.

When will you be here? I'm pretty out of riding this year after tearing my bicep. I have a friend that runs a badass guide service with rentals for factory turbos etc I could set you up with. Be cool to meet you either way!
Bummer about the arm. Definetly would be interested in a guided tour with your friends outfit. My friend that I snowboard with and split VRBOs that past 5-10 years and I ended up switching up our program this year. We started to pencil out VRBO cost, rental cars, eating out in town every night and decided to try renting a place for the season. I am driving out from Havasu on Friday and staying most Jan - Mar. Popping back to CA for onsite work when needed. Kind of my idea of a Endless Winter kind of bucket list thing. Never was able to make time after college or when I was younger. Want to be able to ride the best days. We off Freeway in some neighbor hood in Kimball Junction. Will PM when I am out there. Definetly would be cool to have a Park City RDP meetup.

That would be my deal right there. Inside with a heater and a cocktail.

SML has one. Been trying to buy it off him for a couple years. 😬

Ok cool. The good thing about my buddy is he has all the best Tobe gear to rent and the latest and greatest sleds. I have a sled you could ride but it old technology. My buddy also will get you into some great spots and help you progress. It wouldn't be a bad idea to book with him sooner than later but have a conversation with him about going out when a big storm hits on a random day. Riding trails and riding the back country are two completely different deals. Trail riding is easy back country is extremely challenging.

When you are ready to reach out to my buddy DJ let me know first... I can probably get you a better deal.

Such beautiful county. I have enjoyed everyday in BC back country snow boarding. I see guys riding sleds and sometimes cross tracks there. Such a cool place.

i’ve been riding snowmobile‘s most of my life. I grew up in Tahoe in the 60s and would go to work at the rental companies to get free rides. Back then Snowmobile‘s didn’t go anywhere but the meadows. I have a new Polaris 850s that go anywhere if you know how to ride them. I actually I have a house that’s 9 miles back in on a snowmobile. We live on a groomed snowmobile Road. I’m about 50 miles from Reno in the back country. I love getting a group of people together and heading to the top of the world.

This is my Raptor truck with tracks on it. This is how I get the groceries in. I back in my heated garage and unload the groceries. If the roads groomed good and smooth I can go 50 miles an hour. What’s the time it’s kind of bumpy so I average about 30 mph.

Here’s another toy I have to keep my yard all plowed out and groomed. We build big jumps in the backyard for my son not me to go off. I have my house in Havasu so I only spend four months of the year up here. It’s a lot of fun living here and Time goes by fast. So far we are off to a good winter and looking like a lot of snow coming in the next two weeks.

Had a ton of fun developing, building, tuning and racing ice drag sleds in the late 80’s early 90’s.

Ran low 130’s in 660’ 30+ years ago.

Now it’s 4-strokes on nitro running 150+ in ~450’

Looking forward to going to MI UP and doing some riding.

That is a bad ass machine...

I am really bad about remembering to take pics (going to add some after this trip) but last night I was riding around the track my FIL made for the "the kids" at their house with my step daughter. They have the new Polaris Indy Evo sleds (BTW absolute blast to ride on) for them to all be learning on. He made a big figure 8 track that goes from one side of their property to the other with a couple baby jumps (7acres). It's perfect for kids...for us we can run up the road (snow-covered) and jump right into the WA snow park system. Your property looks beautiful... My BIL was looking through the pics on this thread...and goes "guessing you want another raptor now" 🤣 If mine wouldn't have gotten totaled I would have had to seriously look into that track setup. Goals...thank you for sharing your pics!

R We call him big your Mike. I wish I would’ve put a snow cat and raptor in there. Maybe next time .People think we get bored up here but never. View attachment 1183935
When you said “big jumps in the front yard” that isn’t what I pictured. But I guess I probably should have when you showed the groomer you build them with. It must get annoying for your son to always have to push that wheelbarrow with his balls in it everywhere he goes..

Goals is right! I’d be happy with just a pistenbully 100! :D

I have a “kiddie” track also that i do around our property, my 5yo daughter probably puts 200 miles on her 120 in each of the last 2 seasons …..and my 3yo thinks she is ready for the kitty cat but she still isn’t 100 percent with the steering/throttle yet on a sled. The state park trails are a couple hundred yards from our property so once we get on them the riding is endless since they connect with a few other state parks. Through connector trails we could get to my parents place about 80 miles away(in a car).

My parents did the same thing for me. I grew up on a snowmobile and at ski resorts so thats all we did during the winters. Such great memories and a lot of great experiences learning snowmaking, running snow cats, moving snow, building parks, grooming, working at ski shops and being ski/snowboard instructor. Plus My wife and i have been professional ski patrolers for 10 years at 4 different ski areas.

I’m really liking this thread so lets keep it going!

I also collect and tinker with cabooses and vintage sleds , one of which is heading down to @LuckyStrike one of these days.

My restored show sled is a 1969 Ski Doo Olympic 320as which resides in my game room and only comes out for vintage sled shows.

The last 4 pics is of when i pulled the 2 ski doo nordic 440e and the ski boose out of an old mans shed. I was planning a a full restoration but i passed them on to a buddy for a father son project.

I will get in to my snowmaking operation another day :D

I installed new ski's and carbides on my summit tonight... bought some new KLIM bibs, and gloves as well....going to hit the trail again Thursday morning I think. Put my deposit down for my slot to get my "snow check" order in march for next fall. I think a turbo sled will be joining the stable come next fall. Those of you with them I need to decide between the 154, and `163. I'm going to be getting an extension via the dealer from marlon for my deck so the overhang isn't as much of a concern. TBH the 154 is pretty good for me, and all involved but I would like to "sink" a little less.

What dealer are you going to snow check with? RDP has a member on here that is fantastic to work with. I know he also has 2 Lynx Shredder's showing up in February that are available. Here is my take on the 154 vs 165 but first what is your riding style and typical snow conditions?

154 - It is a handful, it will be noticeably more flickable and feel very light. Yes you do loose some floatation but these factory turbo's do not want to be stuck, a pin and wiggle with the HP these make is very effective. It is hard to keep the front end down, you can tune some of that out with the suspension and limiter straps.

165- In my opinion the best overall length. Still a handful but you gain some flotation over the 154 but lose just a little in the maneuverability. A little easier to manage the ski lift also.

It really comes down to your riding style and what you want more. If you prefer meadows and more open area riding I would probably lean 154. If you like to run long steep hills or technical tree riding I would lean 165.

IDK why I typed 163 last night, one too many claws I guess lol. We do some "straightaway" runs heading up the trail to the mountain. After that It's more free riding. I have been leaning more to the 165, which will lead me to wanting the deck extension. That sled on a 7' deck sticks out really far, while my 154 already sticks out a Waze.

We haven't figured out the riding areas in Northern AZ yet so that's also going to come into play on the final decision.

I have waffled on the turbo because a lot of the reviews I read show them as heavier, and at under a certain altitude the N/A performs better supposedly.
I appreciate the input.

If you have their contact info let me know, I'm not stuck where I'm at by any means. My FIL is doing two sleds via the guys up here in WA as well so I was just going through them. I've seen the lynx but don't know a ton about them...I know they are a badass machine though from the videos I've seen.

I have heard that also on the N/A at lower elevations. I ride at 8k plus and as high as over 10k. I have been up to Whistler the trailhead is about 1k and all the local guys we rode with had aftermarket turbos. I can't see any reason not to buy the turbo. The dealer I mentioned was Tooele Valley Motorsports, if you want to contact them let me know and I can make the intro.
