That sentence is the biggest lie ever. I get anywhere from two to five "quick" questions every day from my clients that take about 30 minutes to an hour to discuss. I usually don't but I'm going to start sending the a "Quick" invoice and see how they feel about that. 😝

Send that invoice “Quick” before they forgot about calling you.

Shintoo quick question...................

If I post a picture of part of a female nipple, not the whole thing, do I still get banned? how about a see thru bikini nipple? what if she's breastfeeding? is there anyway to post a nipple and not take a permanent ban. Maybe you should just give me a call and we can discuss, should only take a couple minutes. Thanks

I provide tech help worldwide , I get alot of "One quick question" calls that become 3,4,5 but I enjoy it to some degree Its the two page emails with bullet points that get me ................... I have learned to forward them to myself , triple space them and change fonts to answer one by one

If it’s like our CPA that 30 min cost me $200.

I try and not bill for my time and I know I'm losing out on a lot of $$$ but I just don't feel right billing for a "quick" question. I am going to have to change that though for some clients as they are taking advantage of it and spreading out that quick question over several sessions.

At the end of the day though, I rather have my clients communicate with me and not be afraid that they are going to get a bill for $200. I hate for them to make a mistake which will cost them thousands of $$ because they didn't call me. My tax prep fees are on the higher side though so I make it up there I suppose.

Bill for all time. 1 hour minimum.

Long time loyal customers who have been with you for some time, adjust accordingly. You know who they are.

Times have changed. Almost nobody gets a free ride anymore. Unless they have earned it.

It all depends how the billing is set. Currently we are billed per hr with different charges per level of employee just like a law firm. Now, i know for a fact that I’m not billed for all 30 to an hour communications, but that’s how we are billed. I’ll be a bit embarrassed for what we pay for tax consulting and oversight throughout the year for our small business.

Our previous firm was a monthly retainer then tax preparations fees on top of that.

Today I spent 1.5 hours discussing the alternate options to the lighting plan, to just stick with the original drawing…..

I had a quick question for my attorney, told him I'd send a check as soon as I got my invoice, he said it was a freebie. I told him that cost all my faith in him as an attorney...😄

some clients as they are taking advantage of it
You hit the nail on the head.
Most of it is because I can't say NO
I kick myself in the azz for what I have done for people over the years for free.
If they were a solid account i would help out as much as possible
Some abused that privilege.
Some give me trips on their yacht or rides in their jet
Some I have quit and some fired me for not doing enough and that makes everyone laugh.

My favorite was the customer who called me at home on a Sunday with a question about an in-process order. I told him I’d have to call back with the answer on Monday, whereupon he replied “Oh, no. Don’t do that. I don’t work on Mondays.”

I called an attorney one time and the first thing asked was my name and mailing address….23 minutes cost me $230. Bill showed up a week later.
My atty does the same. I will get an email randomly asking how are things, yada yada about business but I don’t respond, lol. Soon as I do it’s 15 mins to read an email then other 15 to respond and the bill comes in.

We kinda of joke about when I do reach out to him about somthing.

Last bill was getting me out of a BS lawsuits that someone was rolling us into about a part that had our name on it that supposedly failed and happened almost 2 years ago. We sold the part to a larger company that had someone else install it. Still cost me $3500 to get our name thrown out.

Our RE lawyer charges 75.00 for an email response, and 100.00 min. for phone call. I feel like you are in the same class.

A very wise man I met through here said something recently to me that made a lot of sense.
"I've done real good by listening to what other people had to say"

Someone is paying for it, in some way or another. Either the person with the knowledge is, with their time, or you are, buying their time. Sometimes the knowledgeable person can use it as an investment, to gain or grow business. Sometimes it's worth paying if it help you do the same...or keeps you out of jail 🤣

bill for all time, in 15min blocks. IE a 5min call bills for 15. Reasonable clients will understand. That's how the world is these days.

The best is when they email you a question. You email a detailed response. Then they email back, "can you just call me? "

Man… if us insurance guys were able to charge for our “time” and “quick questions”…. Then there really would be something to complain about in all the “insurance is a scam and rates are too high” threads 🤣. I’d probably be able to afford a boat and do Vegas like a high roller lol

I'm in the automotive performance biz and usually reply to text/calls/ and dms. Does it take a lot of time? Yes but always pays off.

A lawyer friend of mine addresses the “I have a quick question” with the following statement…….

“I would have to spend some time applying the specific facts to the relevant rules. Would you like me to spend the time doing that?”

I think the difference is that you’re looking to land a project/job (I do the same). Vs a CPA is giving you valuable or potentially thousands of dollars in advice from the moment they open their mouth.

Quick question can I write these off as advertisement? They were expensive and the message seems to be getting around as you can see.

F Offfffffffff!
I need a bid from you..

No

Why not?

You're a cheap ass that will only take the lowest bid and don't give a shit about any kind of quality.

Aww, come on it's just a simple bid, I need specs too, you'll get the job I promise.

Fuck Off!

Hi, it's me again. Can you give me a price to fix some things?

One day I walked to a local cafe for lunch, as I entered the cafe I saw one of our attorneys waiting for a seat. We had some small talk and he asked if I wanted to join him. I said sure, we had a quick lunch and went on our separate way (no business was discussed), the next month our accounting department asked me to approve his invoice which included the cost of the lunch. When I called him on it, he said that it was a mistake his assistant made... from that point on I directed our business to another firm.
