But I'll say it, as a "qualified captain", who's takes on jobs for vessel owners and as per previous threads, goes through every system to make sure things are tip top before leaving on a journey to deliver the vessel to the owner, your boat lift sure doesn't seem to get the same sort of attention.

If I lived in Florida, I'd put a significant amount of effort into being prepared for severe weather...which typically happens in Florida. Seems like you did not think this was important.

When the water starts going down…untie and cruise back over to where no land should be…

I have a stepbrother in the Tampa area (not sure exactly), he has a jetski rental business....this is what he said hes doing, he said he unhooked all the skis from the trailers and tied them off up high on some trees....he said that way if/when the area gets flooded, the skis will float off the trailer and he will be able to use them to get around...

Hey C-YA, would it make sense to set some big yacht anchors in a few directions with a long scope? Kind of triangulating everything, but away from the dock? Can't imagine the boat would move too much then. Maybe add some extra batteries as well to supply the auto bilge pump

I always thought they should put house boats with long anchor lines instead of of mobile homes on the Ohio river. That way when it floods every year just disconnect the utilities and float for a week.

The news keeps getting better and better for us in Broward County. Predicted Wind speed is now down to 45mph. My boat can handle that all day long. I could've even left Bimini on.

The problem with setting anchors is that you really need 2 boats or be willing to swim, back to dock. If you leave enough play, to get boat over to dock to step off, you end up defeating your purpose.

My boat will be fine…….

Also, just for info. If I were in the “cone of concern” and I did not move my boat…….. I would have NO insurance. Right now, I am fully insured!

One last thing. I am going to address my boatlift.

There has been no shortage of work done to my lift. I have installed my 3rd head unit. I have replaced the head unit tree…… twice. I have reinstalled the auto levelor too many times to count. I have re-hosed the lift. I have rebuilt the snorkels. I have reinforced my slides. I have made multiple adjustments. When I converted the lift to fit a catamaran……… The Cat bunks now cover-up the frame brackets. These are now hard to inspect, even without a boat on lift, because of it. Just imagine my surprise when the entire lift separated last week. It was a huge surprise.

Maybe the ding dong from Long Beach could have seen how clean the boatlift is……. No barnacles. I bet he is wondering how that happened, since he seems to think I don’t do any maintenance on lift…… Ive spent more money maintaining the lift than I originally spent to purchase it! Shit happens…….. it floats

Its not the wind they are most worried about now... Its the storm surge as that is getting larger as the Milton keeps pushing towards FL... Has the possibility being the worst ever...

10-15' from Englewood north to the Anclote river.
6-10' from Englewood south to Bonita Beach.

We had a 6’ surge with Helene, about a foot of water over the pool deck but not in the house.
Depending on the tide most newer construction can take 10’. If I had to do it over I’d build on 12’ concrete pilings.

I agree. Bureaucratic incompetence, even when widespread, does not constitute conspiracy.

I’ll give the bureaucrats a bit of a break though, as the amount of destruction and the number of people affected would be difficult to manage under the best of circumstances. However, it would be helpful if the FEMA representatives we’ve seen in videos didn’t come across as though they were untrained volunteers.
