I feel stupid asking lol but as someone who’s only purchased. How do you know when they’re done? And then when you trim them, is the goal to cut the leaf as close to the stem?

Is the plant then completely toast after that?

Once budding starts it's about 6-8 weeks for harvest. Using a jewelers loop you need to check the clarity of the pistils. All clear and close to harvest, 80-90% milky ready on the up side, pistils turning brown goes more toward couch high...which I like...

My tomato plants told me to F off in August and aren’t changing their minds.

On the bright side the artichoke I cut back last month is showing signs (again) of the next chapter. Want to say it will be production 6 or 7 since we planted it some 3 ish years ago.

5b. I planted them indoors in April and then transplanted to the hoop house in late May, but we had an unusually cool June, so they were a bit stunted. They stayed 3-5 inches until early July. Most folks around here have the same issue. I have 10-12 plants of 5 different heirloom varieties. I just picked the first Blue Beauty today (the purple one). I've made some fresh salsa, but am just now getting enough to can. The cherry-size ones are interesting because the same bush will produce yellow, green, or red tomatoes. It makes it difficult to tell when they are ripe, but they are very sweet and make an excellent caprese salad.

Here is the hoop house that Jeff enclosed last weekend. 16' x 50'

The upper windows are on pulleys, and the door is a dutch door, so there are a lot of choices for airflow. I have to open it all up for the next couple of days because it's supposed to be in the 80s here for the next couple of days. It will be 110 or more inside and cook everything if I don't let some air go through.

I was diagnosed with advanced Glaucoma in 2015 at the age of 42 (very young for the disease) and have one of the top Ophthalmologist/Glaucoma Dr's in the country at UCLA. I asked my Dr this question early on and he said it's 99% BS. Its been said that weed lowers your Inter Ocular Pressure which is a key factor in Glaucoma treatment. He said its clinically proven that for the very slight amount and short time weed lowers IOP, it is not even close to being therapeutic. So in his terms its basically a myth many people believe.

I'm sure some of it here is sarcasm for sure but you'd be amazed how many people mention this to me that actually believe it. I myself enjoy a toke here and there so I had to ask the Dr to get the facts!!

In outdoor conditions like I do it's 5-6 months. Indoors you can controll the light cycle and that determines the budding cycle. 12 hours of light, 12 hours of dark and it's game on.
To be honest I've never weight my harvest but my BIL once grew a plant that harvested 12 laundry baskets full of trimmed bud...that was insane to say the least but this was in the 90's so potency (THC level) was not where it is today.

And you might get a kick out of this.We are trying to grow Loofa gourds this year. Our first attempt at this plant.
I’m somewhat underwhelmed lol.
Lots of vine, some are reaching 25-30ft in length from its point of origin.
But so far only 3 gourds

Many different varieties have been genetically modified to now be called "auto-flower". This means they will go from seed to harvest in less than 90 days. Much easier to deal with for the home grower. Much more forgiving of lighting and maybe even harder than traditional strains.

We're in NW Montana, but we spend several months in Lake Havasu.

Tomatoes usually like it hot, but not the sun so much.

You may want to try adding potash to your soil to produce more fruit (gourds).

We will likely get a frost in the next couple of weeks, so I have a little heater in the greenhouse ready to go to extend the growing season. I don't care if the zucchini and cucumbers in the outside beds die at this point. LOL. Our growing season is relatively short, but we have 18-19 hours of daylight in the summer months.

I doubt you need the heater for a light frost.
They stay surprisingly warm if there’s any sun.
Later, when stuff freezes hard definitely a heater

That is false to go from seed to harvest in 90 days. Auto flower just starts budding when its ready no matter the light cycle. So, yes they are quicker. But from seed to harvest in 90 days is a big stretch. Clone to harvest with auto flower maybe. JMO

Dr said weed helps lower pressure for time it’s active in your system so a few hours.

And the loofa gourd which was disappointing a month ago with only 3, is now at 8 units

Always had a green thumb so thought Id plant some tomatoes cause they're so easy over the years.... I couldn't find any local sprouted 6" tall ones like in states so just sliced a thick heirloom and put it under some good soil in a pot... check out what only took 10 days to happen....

its indoors where I have huge sunny windows... I'm amazed

40 qts of green beens, 16 qts of carrots, 21 pints of dill pickles, 11 qts of beets, 7 pints of salsa (7 more tomorrow), 7 pints of diced tomatoes. 3 heads of cabbage, green onions every time I need some. Tons of zucchini also, of course.

Disappointments were the lettuce, yellow onions, and cauliflower/brussel sprouts. The lettuce bolted, it was just too hot in the greenhouse, I guess. Yellow onions just did nothing, really. Still growing at a dismal pace, though. And the cauliflower and brussel sprouts just took too long. Spinach bolted every time. I got very little from it, and we love spinach Strawberries didn't produce much, but it was the first year. Cilantro, Thyme, and Oregano did great. We are expecting a hard freeze next week, and I'm not going to bother heating the greenhouse. I'm tired of canning. I need to clean it all up, lay down some compost, and get ready to head to Havasu!

How would you suggest I plant my first weed plant in a large pot I have? I get weed all the time that enters Mexico with friends that won't risk border crossing carrying.... I know nothing about the plant so can I simply take some of it and stuff it under 2-3" of top soil and water as normal plant? thanks!

It all starts with the seed selected and planted. A random seed coming over the border wouldn't work for me.
You want a female plant as males have nothing but seeds within the buds. All identified males get pulled early and into the green wast bin they go. I like my accomplishments over the years and so does my family and friends...yore results may vary.

For what it’s worth, unless you’re a gardener, or a heavy pot smoker, it’s probably better to pick up a small gram from a recreational store in one of the many states.
I suggest a disposable vape pen, or watermelon gummies if you must.

Think your missing my point.... folks leave weed in my humidor constantly when they return home to states across the border so i just want to plant one cause I enjoy gardening. Doubt I'd ever bother smoking it... just gonna see if I can grow some. I enjoy smoking what they leave behind and dont seem to smoke enough so its just here. Good problem to have as guest enjoy it

the autoflowers now absolutely can go sub 90 days, and potency and yields are climbing.....this is an 84 day kush sitting atop a freezer, ready to come down.....between 3-4 ounces dried, and that is in a 1 gallon container too keep it small...the autos have come a long way....speed run seed and fast buds are now running sub 75 day varieties, from germ to finish

trick with autos for yield, do not crop.....low stress training only, they dont veg long enough and the stress of cropping eats into flower time....i do mostly indica dominant because they stay compact and yield better....you'll get more tield with hydro, but flavor is better with organic living soil....microbes were the biggest a ha moment for me

Flower will not grow unless there are seeds inside. And those seeds will not be "feminized" they could be male or female.

As long as they are mature seeds

If you can pinch the seed, with light pressure, and it pops they are no good. Most good seeds are tan/brown and will have dark stripes on them. Jmo

Gosh, I'm anything but a tomato expert. I'm still learning myself. I think you’d just estimate how deep the roots are and make sure they remain damp but not wet, so yes, you wouldn't need to soak all of the soil every day. The most important thing is that when you do get fruit, to make sure the plants get a consistent amount of water each day so that you don't get cracks. Also, if you’ve got great looking plants and no flowers, put some Epsom salt on the soil.

Those are machine trimmed and keifed.

Thanks I can use that info... occurs to me I met a couple down south with a 4' healthy weed plant in their condo so I'll inquire with them as well before I just chuck some seeds in soil.
