I absolutely loved mine until that 10 speed Transmission shit the bed and the way Ford treated me was laughable. Now I miss the third row seat even more since my Dad moved to San Tan and we cant all fit in anyone's car to go get dinner.

Speaking of, how you liking it here? I know the answer, but gotta ask !
I pushed hard for something with a third row, what sucks is both the XT6s she’s looking at are a 2nd row bench and both kids are in car seats.

We absolutely love it here so far, we are very happy with our choice in cities. The storms are cool too.

The biggest issue is our Yukon and the rental car bill I have racked up since the day after we moved here lol.

I have been meaning to text you, we’ve just been running around every free weekend, the kids like to “explore”

Great brother! Yea I had to rent 2 months when my Explorer was down. Ford reimbursed me like maybe 20% after I fought it for ages.

The Storms are great. You can already start to feel the hot days are behind us.

The exploring is the best part. Everything so new and clean. Its a great change.,

What did the 6L80e cost you? Rebuild or new trans?

I'm in this same dilemma with keeping our Tahoe or selling. Historically I have never kept a car past 80k mi or 5 years. The Tahoe is a 2018 with 94k mi and still in immaculate cond. Other than the AC condenser going out (GM covered this in good faith) it has been 100% trouble free. Always do all the req maintenance religiously.

I almost pulled the trigger on a new Tahoe but just couldn't stomach a 1k/mo car payment and that is with a hefty down payment as well. On the other hand I do not want to have a car that I have to worry about breaking down on road trips etc.

From what I have seen the trans is the most common issue with the Tahoe/Burbs? I'm just torn on what to do. You can replace a trans for probably 5 months worth of payments on a new one so there's that.
I did my 2001 Silverado 1500, 4L65E trans for right around $4800. This was done by Valley Transmission in El Cajon. There not the cheapest, but they are good and stand behind it. This was fully rebuilt with all the latest updates including a valve body shift kit, thicker valve body separator plate, billet oil pump, new converter and it comes with a 5 year 60K ATRA nationwide warranty. This was not a swap out, but they pull your trans and rebuild your trans and reinstall it.

Some shops get cores and build them and put them on the shelf, then do swap outs when cars come in. It’s makes the turn around quicker, but you not getting your transmission rebuilt & in your vehicle. Some might not care about that, but for me I want my parts as I know how I’ve taken care of my stuff.

I redid my engine & trans right around 300K all original truck.

If anyone is looking to rebuild your engine. Richard at Action Cylinder Heads in Santee is another great option. Another one of those where he pulled my engine. Rebuilt it with all the latest & greatest and stands behind his work with a warranty too. His Chevy engines don’t burn oil, and he gets rid of the crappy GM lifters and uses high quality US made lifters.

My Truck has the RPO "LT" package but. . . . it's been modified with some standard LS options

Some right off- LQ9 instead of the LQ4.

Odd assortment of LS-LT trim. Dual zone climate and upgraded radio (LT trim) but, manual, cloth seats (LS trim). Overhead console w/DIC (LT) but, manual transfer case (LS package). OnStar delete.

Chassis. . . . Z85 package (HD suspension, gas shocks, skid plates) most had Z71. Camper special, aux battery, Trans is a 4L80E but, there is an option for the beefier 4L80 with straight cut planetary gears. Stronger trans. . . think its MXA, MX1 something like that. Used in the 3500 and up and MH chassis.

Couple other RPO additions-
Front fog lamps, exterior trim (white with chrome inserts), PYO rims including spare.

It's a really good mix of LT package with lower LS package thrown in. Manual transfer case on a LT trim. Owner (who worked for GM) did not want all the fancy push button stuff that failed.

I had an 06 Silverado with a 5.3 I drove for 9 years and 189k and the lifters started going out. I bought a new ram 1500 that I drove for about 2 months and we got hit by a drunk driver on the way to the lake for memorial day.

I then bought my current ram which has 150k and I decided to buy the lifetime warrenty they offered with it at the time and drive the truck forever. My plan was working perfectly until a few weeks ago I got rear ended by a guy with an expired ID from Nicaragua. I'm waiting to see if it's totaled but the way it drove I don't really want it back at this point. Nor do I want a 60k new truck either so we'll see where we end up.

I try and keep them as long as possible. A few bucks for repairs here and there are way cheaper than a monthly payment. Also, cheaper insurance/registration and I can still work on my dinosaurs 🤣

I am still driving my 2000 C2500 Crew cab, its got 409,000 on it. I had the trans rebuilt at 300K, I put a new engine in at 400,000. I am thinking of transitioning to a newer to me F250, but I really like my truck and for the past 10 years have flown more for work than drive, only put 6k on the truck last year... so why spend 50K on a used truck to have it sit.

I LOVE that body style for HD trucks. My first vehicle was a 1997 C1500 Silverado Ex Cab with a 5.7 Vortec. Loved it. Parents had a 1992 K2500 7400 Vortec Suburban and a 1996 K2500 7400 Vortec Suburban and both were great trucks.

I had a 99 K2500 Suburban, white, grey leather, heated seats, all options with a big block. it needed restoration as the rear main was leaking bad and 2nd gear was screaming. I was too busy to resto it and gave it to my nephew in Feb 2020, 1 week before we all stayed home due to covid... I loved that suburban and get pissed every time I see one

I typically buy CPO.

Our 2018 Suburban has 117k miles.
Our 2015 Silverado has 109k miles.

Both in great shape.
I have zero desire to retire either one of them…

Both also have 6L80s. Sub has a factory reman (warranty) and I’ll be replacing the torque converter at the first service, just as the warranty expires.

Silverado has an aftermarket torque converter on the factory trans.

I’ve budgeted for lifters but will likely only do that if I get a failure.

Biggest challenge is preventing the wandering eye for something new. So I continue to do small upgrades and whatnot to keep me interested in them.

I have had a 2004 GMC 2500HD gasser for 8 years this weekend. It Is the longest I have ever had a vehicle. I only put about 4,000 miles a year on it towing my RV and boat. I keep it because it is paid for, and does everything I need it to do.

High school car was a 87 Nissan truck just under 200k never any issues at all. Was lowered then turned into a preruner and beat to shit and drove it like an asshole the whole time I owned it.

92 nissan pathfinder 125k transmission went out but I off roaded the shit of out it! Sold at around 200k miles.

99 Mazda b3000 with the small v6 kept until about 170k miles never an issue just a shift sensor went out but was replaced for about $200. Hauled motorcycles all over the place when I racing every other weekend.

05 Nissan titan just under 200k never any issues except a fuel sender/sensor issue and cracked headers replaced under warranty. Whole family still misses that truck.


Works trucks/company vehicle ever since all Chevy/gmc and all swapped out before 150k miles only issue was with the 2021 4cyl turbo needed to lifter and cam because it burned oil and well poof!


Wife has a 2015 Passat with under 70k miles and should end up being our oldest daughters 1st car in 3 years.

I don't keep ford's past 100k. Mainly due to the amount of towing I do and the trannys don't last beyond that milage. I've been able to keep the doge ram without any major issues, currently at 218k miles. So far 7 ford trucks and one ram.
