I've been all over out there coming from Havasu, Wickenburg and Wikieup with the exception of not pulling up to the lake, so there are parts I am not 100% on. Before suggesting that anyone take their family on this route, I would feel better if it were pre-run or hard verified, especially the "around the lake" segment. Rains, conditions and closures can always effect the best planned trip.

Based on my personal routes, and the routes I used from known stock jeep trips, here is what I would do if it was me alone.

I broke it into 3 segments. Its 65 Miles, but you need to add another 6 Mi R/T to play around in the slot canyon. So the whole enchilada is 71. This does not include mileage to double back up the wash to look for parts that fell off your RZR's

1. Orange Section 51Mi.: Standard wash south of the cement plant ( Hwy 95 pull-off) to Maggie wash slot canyon 2 miles from the Alamo shoreline. I've done the 1st half this in combination with a GPS route from a jeep club that is primarily stock jeeps
2. Blue Section: A 3 Mi RT side trip at mile 47 to a cabin and some Indian Petros (optional)
3. Red section 11Mi. : Maggie wash Slot canyon around the lake to Wayside. (I have no experience with this and used heavily traveled routes as seen from GE) My guess is there is a lot of traffic 4 wheeling and it would not be hard to find the route after talking to some folks, but this looked heavily traveled and the safest bet.

If this is too big of a trip then the trip to Wikieup and back is way easier and fun. Plus in Wikieup you eat at Joes BBQ, gas up and head back. About 25 miles of that 100 mile trip is high speed graded Rd over 3600" pass.

If you want to stop at the Cabin and the slot canyon on the way in I'd suggest rolling by 7AM at least.

Hats off to BPracing1127 for volunteering to put this together :)

Still waiting on opinions on where to stay so I can make reservations. I am only making enough for the people that vote

****one week to go for reservation deadline ***

***3 weeks until the run***

I think 2driver is right we should be leaving around 7 am I know that is early but in order to hit all the stop and have a few beers that is what we must do

I am proposing a start time of 6:30 at the human bean South McCulloch. Leave at 7

Feb 10th-11th

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to make it since I am coaching spring ball, but looks like our games don't start until 2/25. Wife gave me the ok last night, so I am definitely in as long as the Pony baseball starting games change.

Well think about this the desert bash poker run starts at 7:30 and takes us 5 hours with s couple of beer stops. It was 56 miles this year.

This run is 80 miles and just as many stops so I am thinking leave at 7 on the trail by 7:30 and at the cabin by 4:30 ish? Leaves some room for errors like flats or more beer stops etc...

Again just my proposed time. I don’t want to dictate this thing but we should have a start time and place etc.... so that was my proposal..... would meet at 7:30 be better?

You're in charge buddy, I'm just going along for the trip! :D

If you are asking me like 10:30 / 11:00 am is fine.. LOL But I got a shit ton of lights on my rig and a GPS, and I'm not scared to use em. LOL

Cabin sleeps 6 so you can shack up in the one I am getting so far

Alright cool. Let me know the total and I will bring cash for you. What about food along the ride? I was thinking of bringing my little propane camping grill and cooking up some brats or something. How about dinner on Saturday night??

I was thinking sandwiches for lunch and dinner perhaps something super easy like brats/ hamburgers or tacos.

I don’t have a lot of trunk space but was hoping @RiverDave could help carry some of the food needed? Wouldn’t be much?
Don’t forget wayside has a bar and grill. I don’t think it’s much but it’s something?

I am game for sandwiches. Too bad all the good sandwich shops will be closed when we leave. The bar and grill for dinner makes sense. Have to account for sleeping bags, backpacks and beer coolers too for the overnight.

With the Parker house sold I don't know how I could pull off getting to the staging area from Cave Creek without being up for 24 hours.

Ian and I were talking this morning and determined that a 9am start would be ok. I plan on doing some dinner and drinks on Friday night, so getting up super early didn't sound too appealing....lol.....and we all know that ole RD doesn't want to get up early.

Is everyone on this list still in for this trip????

Well change of plans, the cabins are booked out now. Was hoping they wouldn’t be two weeks out. The campsites are open still. But that means tent camping.

Thoughts?

Ok booked sites e41 and e46. They are $20 a night.

It will also be a $15 per extra vehicle charge. Additionally it cost $7 per car to enter the park.

These sites have a fire pit and a picnic table. It’s not glorious but that’s ok, should still be a lot of fun.

They have fire wood available $7 per bundle as well.

Just thinking out loud but if you guys are renting a section of exposed dirt 6 miles from the RV park why not just find a killer spot in a wash with some big trees up against a canyon wall and camp there?

My answer is because they have toilets and we can buy firewood. Plus it was only 40 bucks total

This exactly ^^^^^^ you don't need no stinkin campground piece of dirt, you're in the Desert for crying out loud and it's just one night, you can still bring your Huggie Pillow Dave and if you get cold just spoon with Tom :p
I wish I was able to attend this trek but I'll be out at KOH for that week, as im setup for thatthereboondocking and would of had a great time with all you city dwellers turning over rocks:D

Less than two weeks to go!

Just a recap for info

Feb 10th-11th is the trip

We have two campsites reserved at Alamo Lake State Park E41 and E46, they have a picnic bench and a fire ring. This is tent camping so plan accordingly. The campground also sells firewood. The entry fee to the park is 7 bucks per car

We will meet at the short stop (human bean) south side of town @8:30 leave at 9:00 az time feb 10th

I have the entire “course” on gps and can share with anyone just need your email

I planned on bringing lunch (sandwich) Dinner and breakfast we should do at wayside. We need to go there anyway for gas.

There are planned stops along the way and they include cabins, slot canyon, petroglyphs, sluice box, etc

From my gps the ride is 90 miles long one way. Make sure you have the proper tools to make this run, spare belt, tires etc. also don’t forget gas! And fill up lol . There is always that guy. Pm me for more info or my cell and can’t wait!
