Did it from Parker last year. Day late this year. Great day trip. Call ahead for food if a big group.

How about the weekend after Super Bowl?

Feb 10th

Does that work for everyone?
Also is anyone going with this group that has done the actual ride?

There is a gate at the Bill Williams route that was locked a couple weeks ago!

I think we should overnight. Doing this run at dark (way back) could be very challenging. Although with gps all you have to do is stay on the same course you went out on.

What does the rest of the group want to do.

Keep in mind also this would be a very long trip and everyone needs to have a spare and tools so we don’t have many problems

Have we figured out actually mileage and gas solutions? If not going overnight I could bring 5 gallons and I think I’ll be ok

I can bring some fuel for my rig and a couple motorcycles etc.. we are also going to need firewood etc.. which I can carry.

Well we are going to have to figure that out..
I don’t think we are going that way? I thought we would head down to the cabin and head South another mile or so then turn left and head east all the way to Alamo. I am working on putting a route together in my gps with some luck I’ll be able to do it

I can bring a few pieces of firewood as well. And 5 gallons of gas (mostly for me) unless we can gas up at Alamo lake

It looks like you can ford the Bill Williams in the wash/canyon up river of the Swansea rd pipeline ( next wash up from pipe line) IF so that would make the whole trip a lot easier and staging out shea a possibility. Has anyone checked out the fording spot? The trip report from 2017 had it ok to cross. Mileage wise its not a whole lot shorter though.

100 miles with a few friends is a long day and leaves little time for side trips and exploring. 100 miles in a caravan of misc vehicles will be hurding cats and will take all day. If you really want to poke around it looks like a nighter would be the way to go

You could spend a good part of the day in Maggie wash/slot canyon and rawhide wash just dinking around and Mcguffie cabin and the Indian Petroglyphs

Map it on google earth then port str8 to the lowrance after a small file change...super easy

Let’s get a tally for this so we can call and make a reservation for Saturday night @ wayside. I can set that up.

Dirtbag can you explain more on the gps file thing?

Who is going and what are you riding? And who is planning on having a rv or trailer pre set up there?

Right now this is what I have

Wayside is on the opposite side of Lake Alamo and I have no idea how to get around the lake as it looks to be quite a drive to get over there. Any idea how to get around the lake?

The red Pin drop is the wayside, the yellow mark is the slot canyon, and the side of the lake you'll be coming in from. It appears attempting to get to Wayside adds a whole other layer of trip planning?

If need be I may do some prerunning to ensure a sucessful trip if someone has some unknowns

Some prerunning would be fantastic. I just know wayside is where the gas is that we all need

Some prerunning would be a great idea, and there is a hwy that goes around the lake. I have googled it a few times trying to figure it out. I'm just not sure how many more miles it adds to the trip, but if we over night at the lake I believe we will need to get to the other side anyway.

So I called wayside. They in fact have gas 91 octane too. They have a full bar and grill for food. They also have camping if we choose to go there. It is 6 miles from the lake they said.

Wayside also said they have a group of people every weekend that off-road from havasu and kingman. She wasn’t sure about how to get there. But she did say that you can cross over to the other side (east side) at “the bus” not sure what that is but she said she knows it possible

It looks like there is a traveled trail/route around (assuming water levels and conditions) that people have made about mid-way up the dry part of the lake. I measured it and it is 12 miles from the slot canyon on the other side to Wayside. That would be awesome and eliminate taking fuel and a bunch of other crap for folks in SXS.
Folks in RZRs would still need to carry spare parts though.

I also called the Alamo state park. He did say this is about 60-80 mile ride depending on which way you go. This is one way.

He said the best way to find out is check out the Mohave county off-road map. I have one but it’s in havasu

The fuel and food at Wayside aside, Consider camping at Alamo campground, Cholla Rd, C loop. There is full bathrooms with hot showers. Full desert access, FOR NON DOT stuff.

For anyone bringing an RV, full hook ups and a community dump.

You can run down Bullard wash from the Wayside to the campground, its close.

I have always been able to make it across the Bill Williams to the Wayside inn. In a RZR its takes no time at all, adds no complexity. Its pretty intuitive, just head for the river part of the lake, you go through a tunnel of Salt Cedars and you're across. Our days exploring, shooting and stuff are always 100 plus miles out there.

Does someone have the route roughly planned on google earth?

Which way does everyone want to go? We should finalize this part so people can commit and we can get a campground spot. I’m trying to do this on google earth but I am struggling a bit

where do i get a map with all the places that keep getting mentioned in here? I want to be able to go exploring out in the desert and would like to have a good referance.
I think the coolest one I have seen to date is an app called Polaris ride command.
Polaris is a good one, a guy in our group has it on a Ipad Mini.
Last week in Ocotillo Wells/Truckhaven & Anza Borrego I used MotoX & Gaia on a Ipad using a BadElf as a GPS you do have to download detailed maps for the area you want to explore, there may be some that are included in the Apps.
You can also go to Trailsoffroad.com for detailed trails if their listed and GPS coordinates then add them to one of your Apps.
All mentioned above were very easy to negotiate and download and with the HUGE Ipad mounted on the cage in the JK it was "Sofakinghandy" and easy to use, yea Im a caveman and I can do it. :D

I have doubts the blue route would work, but who knows. Neither route takes you to the other cabin, Indian petros or the slot canyon which is sort of what the trip is about, in less everyone just wants to bee line to beer and food at Wayside.

Ill work up the route thats in my head and post it later.

I have been playing with the ride command. I set way points from standard wash to Alamo Lake following proven trails. I think all you have to do is this then follow. Not sure, but looks like a 100 mile ride if you don’t get lost. Probably a lot of wash trails. Not sure of my gas mileage doing high speed wash runs.
Any thoughts?

I Googled Earthed (a while ago) a similar Blue Route but on the westside of Bill Williams entering through Planet Ranch and it looked doable as a return route.
BUT I agree with 2Driver it's all about POI's that make the trip more enjoyable.

I've been all over out there coming from Havasu, Wickenburg and Wikieup with the exception of not pulling up to the lake, so there are parts I am not 100% on. Before suggesting that anyone take their family on this route, I would feel better if it were pre-run or hard verified, especially the "around the lake" segment. Rains, conditions and closures can always effect the best planned trip.

Based on my personal routes, and the routes I used from known stock jeep trips, here is what I would do if it was me alone.

I broke it into 3 segments. Its 65 Miles, but you need to add another 6 Mi R/T to play around in the slot canyon. So the whole enchilada is 71. This does not include mileage to double back up the wash to look for parts that fell off your RZR's

1. Orange Section 51Mi.: Standard wash south of the cement plant ( Hwy 95 pull-off) to Maggie wash slot canyon 2 miles from the Alamo shoreline. I've done the 1st half this in combination with a GPS route from a jeep club that is primarily stock jeeps
2. Blue Section: A 3 Mi RT side trip at mile 47 to a cabin and some Indian Petros (optional)
3. Red section 11Mi. : Maggie wash Slot canyon around the lake to Wayside. (I have no experience with this and used heavily traveled routes as seen from GE) My guess is there is a lot of traffic 4 wheeling and it would not be hard to find the route after talking to some folks, but this looked heavily traveled and the safest bet.

If this is too big of a trip then the trip to Wikieup and back is way easier and fun. Plus in Wikieup you eat at Joes BBQ, gas up and head back. About 25 miles of that 100 mile trip is high speed graded Rd over 3600" pass.

Harder for me now with the river house sold. But I plan to run the route around the lake to the slot canyon.

Let me know if you want the route files from earth. Also, if you are pre running, Id exit Alamo lake to Wenden and return to havasu on the highway. Wenden-Hope- Bouse- Parker
