Kicking around the idea of picking up a Hallett 255 with a 525 and looking to see how has owned one and what are your thoughts. I really don't want a 270 since it is just the wife and I but we need something bigger for the lake we boat on. Thanks and always appreciate the RDP input

Great family boat and it will hold it's value.

Can't go wrong with that combo. In it's size class it has tons of room and handles rough water really well. The amount of room inside makes it feel like most companies 26 or 27's. Very forgiving boat to drive. Won't be the fastest in the size range but that is part of the switch off with the handling.

We have a 255 with a 540 in it and the wife and I love it. If you have any questions feel free to reach out and I will gladly help answer anything I can for you.

Absolutely love our 255, hands down the best boat we have ever owned. It is the perfect size and so roomy inside. Ours is a Mid Cabin Open Bow. We had 5 kids and 5 adults on it, comfortably. We have the 525 in ours and it is more than enough to power it up to the mid 70's and cruise at around 45-50.

Have tossed around the idea of selling it, but not sure what we would replace it with. Put zero hours on it last season.

The one reason we went with the 255. It’s the perfect size boat for just a couple. Not to large and easy to manage, and big enough to handle the rough waters of Havasu. As mentioned not the fastest in its class due to be a heavier boat for wave crushing performance 🤣 We have the 525 and as mention by Joe it’ll run mid to high 70s with a cruising speed comfortably at the mid 50s range. If you have any questions feel free to reach out.
Here’s ours

I had one for a while, picked it up from outdrive1, think we even test drove it on Havasu, closed bow it was a nice boat with a 496, think we sold it for 23k with 400 hours on it.

I don’t know why but I’m a fan of the 240. Could never get into the 255. Im really curious to see what Barron is doing
Who is running it now? All they need to do is splash a 240 open bow. They will be beyond busy with one model and a couple molds.

I love mine so far. I’m coming from my 21 Rc, so I’m biased about how I like a boat to ride. It didn’t have tabs or plates when I got it, and it would porpoise real bad after you hit a roller at high speed. Big ol tabs fixed that. The other quark it has is wandering real bad at idle, like running bout line on arrowhead. I’m hoping imco steering will fix that. Other that that, you have to realize that they are not a hot rod, they are a big sports sedan.

Try dropping a single tab all the way down. It helps with the idle wander.

We absolutely love our 255. Big enough to handle the rough days yet small enough to handle around the docks. We also wakeboard behind it. Ours is 496 mag HO with bravo 3X. Great holeshot. top speed with tweaked 28 props, mid 60's. With the 525/540 would be a dream package.

Barron 242S The partner that was with Jerry, looks to be trying to keep them going. They have splashed the 240! I am surprised it hasn't been picked up on the boards yet.

It was teased in this video, and also the tribute video to Jerry. There is a brief spot in the video, undoubtedly the 240 bottom and deck. Going to be interesting how they put the current BARRON spin on it.

You guys are living in the past. Both for what a boat should cost and the type of boat. Most people that are looking for a performance boat want a Deck boat. The demand for V bottom boats is almost zero. If Barron was smart they would develop a entry level deck boat and market the shit out of it coast to coast. Just my 2 cents.

Here is a little trick I learned to help with the idle wander...put the trim tabs all the way down. I have IMCO steering, it didnt help the idle wander.

2 or 3 years ago I was all about deck boats and wanted one bad. Now I’m back to the 240 or 270

This is why the Shockwave 22 deck mold, never sits idle. They always have a boat in it. Although it isn't the greatest riding boat on a rough day, they are very affordable for what you get.

I lke the vintage look of the 240 as well, but I wouldn't kick a 255 out of bed!

A nice V bottom is so versitile , and way better if yanking kids around on tubes, skis, etc. I've always wanted a deckboat but after taking a few trips on a pontoon at higher speeds, it makes me realize i like having wind protection. MCOB or walk-thru V bottom with a closable "door" partition is the way

Yea after looking at Joes and Paul’s i think I could change my opinion on the 255. Indo prefer the 240 but 255 is not a bad looking boat

I know you just love going back and forth through the mid cabin on your boat! 🤔

It's not that bad on my 260 i am 6' 4". Only have to when I tie up to my mooring solo. The cabin is great spot to get out the sun. Do whatever you want and not be seen. Lots of storage.

Nordic 25' is super tight passing through.

If I was regularly out with 5 or less the 25' bullet walk thru would be my choice.

Yeah getting to the front of my Nordic Rage is a real pain in the ass. 😀

We do a lot of waterskiing/watersports so a v bottom is what we want.

Thank you Sir and the one I am looking at is an MCOB and like yours. With the 255 being a little smaller than the 270 and me being 6' 2 with a bad back LOL I was looking for a walk through but like the cuddy as well. How is it getting up to the bow and around the boat.

It's funny that's what I thought too, hence I bought a Nordic Rage. My best friend bought a deck and have been pulling the kids tubing and I have been skiing behind it for the last 4 years. The deck actually puts out a flatter wake and with the tabs down it has been great for tubing.

I realize it’s gonna cost more than 100k but if they can keep it in the 130-150k range I think they have a winner. 200+ just isn’t in the cards for most.
Those 20 year boat loans will be popular again.

150k plus tax license. Say $168k otd. A 6 year loan payment will be close to 3k a month if not more.

No idea what boat loan rates are but I think you’re right with the 20 year.

I will stick with my 8K boat and go be poor somewhere else! 2k a month on anything other than dirt under it is insane to me.

It will be interesting to see what the Barron comes in at. We had our 255 built in 2017 and was one of the last ones out of the original Hallett, and seeing the price jump from then to now is just amazing. Our same boat is now $50-75k more equally equipped.

This is where the current economic reset comes into play. Everything needs to come back down to Earth.

I can't agree more and not cheap by any means but shit is still crazy. Covid prices are coming down finally but there are still the true non boaters that boat with Covid money to gef into the game that still think there stuff is worth 10x realistic prices. Not sure if I am still in left field but a 2004 255 with a 525 with 400 hours which they say is in perfect but a 7 out if 10 at best and they want 85K is crazy 🤪 in my opinion but I am not the guy that to complain I just move on. Just my 2 cents.
