Heat pumps are pretty much the most efficient form of heat (unless you have lots of trees and a wood burning stove)

What makes heat pumps different from other forms of heat is that they don't actually generate heat, they just move it from one place to another, this means they can put more BTU's of heat into your home than they actually consume to do so.
I didn’t know heat pumps even existing until last year when I bought a house with a heat pump in a rural neighborhood with no natural gas service. I had to look it up on the inter webs.😎

Plus that house had solar panels…. Bill was zero based on usage. (minus the $40 California “minimum “ surcharge we have to pay regardless of usage)

I am putting a heat pump on my primary residence. Mostly because I am adding AC so it’s a good time. Then I will add solar. My bill should be zero before the surcharge

Yes the people at Porter Ranch sued the SCGC Gavin got the first Billion the people got the 2nd settlement they want to break down the gas co storage facility which is crucial to the infostructure and how they buy gas from Texas. A small handful of people dictate the fate of everyone gas bill methane is lighter than air it goes up in the atmosphere and dissipate quickly. The gas co biggest customer is So Cal Edison wait till summer.

Would highly recommend you get an inverter type system when shopping around as they are the most efficient.
Like said I'll be installing this in our home in the next couple of months as we're adding on and will report back.

$251 is the next projected bill. I remember receiving an email or letter in the mail about a price increase. I’m sure my dads house is going to be crazy high since my grandma likes the house at 80!

Rarely had a Home Heating gas bill over $35. Always thought it was a bargain. Now $92 to $111. Higher fuel prices and recovery fees. This is mostly on Biden as far as I'm concerned.
We been running quiet electric ceramic electric heat off the Tesla solar Powerwall as a test just to see the difference and it's made a big difference. 2 to 3 amps each still have over 35% powerwall left as the sun rises. Just to do it.

Ceramic elect in the RV off the HF 3500 too. Easier to get gas and refuel the generator than the hassle and expense of Propane.

Swiss blood wife never gets cold. She never runs the heat. Ever. Just me and Maynard get cold so it's up to us to turn it on.
T shirt, mommy pants, penny loafers, no makeup, glasses, dbbl action .38 cal & as unattractive as she can possibly make herself to walk the dog for 4 miles at 28F.

Unfortunately I looked at my bill after reading this thread 🤣 Our highest gas bill over the last two years was $52. This months $275. Lucky we over produce on our owned solar so I ordered electric room heaters, just never worried about it when our old average was $27/month. Luckily I live with 2 ice princess’s and their queen so they are happy that the house is 60’ while my old bones definitely do.

Socal gas has recently changed their website. Unless I am missing it.... But I can't seem to find the "projected bill" like I did a week ago. Maybe too many complaint calls?

Capture.JPG

Effective January 1, 2023, the procurement component of the core sales rate will increase 239.563 ¢/therm to 344.892 ¢/therm. This increase resulted from an overall 270.869 ¢/therm increase in commodity price and a decrease of 31.306 ¢/therm in account adjustments. Compared to a year ago, the procurement rate is about 312.7% higher (83.569 ¢/therm) than what it was effective January 2022.

So about $3.45 a Therm. Have to do math now to see how much pain your "projected bill" is going to cause next month!

I just turned my heat off after reading all this rate hike shit here. I will put on more clothes before I pay these fuks more $$$...principles....
Can they change the gas quality w/out telling us? Like changing from premium gas to reg. gas in your car? The lower grade makes less heat thereby requiring increase in usage coupled with price increase equals record profits for the utility?
Is it possible the gov't has hit them w/ a surcharge/tax increase to generate more $$$$ to help pay for their social engineering programs (welfare, illegal immigration, covid $$$ etc.) and their stated b.s. justifications for increase is just simply a cover up for the communistic demands by big gov't?

Asking for a friend of course cuz he don't cumonhere....lol
Nothing like ANACONDA CONSTRICTING the middle and lower classes eh???? fml

We live at about 8500ft in Colorado.
Propane water heater and an old 1994 forced air furnace heating 3600sqft.
Propane gets pricey heating in the winter and the rates go up in the wimter months also.
We lock in at a fixed contracted rate every year in the summer to help. This year it would have been 3x the cost per gallon if he hadn't locked in.

Luckily I have an almost endless supply of firewood on my property and the twins are old enough to help me now. Cutting, splitting, stacking and moving wood keeps you warm twice and helps keep me in shape. Ish. My woodstove has been running constantly since Thanksgiving.

Glad I don't have to buy firewood. A cord of firewood is close to $400 delivered in my area this year. I may need to get back into the firewood business.

Just got my bill, I don’t recall a gas commodity charge, that was $131 itself, my baseline and overage was $93, total $240. I’m normally $45-90, and maybe 125ish in winter months. Crazy!

Seems like this coincides perfectly with the federal governments recent push to begin phasing out natural gas appliances.......
Almost like....they want us dependent on the electric grid....or something.......

Keep the TN house at 55 while we are not there in the winter. Nat gas bill $16.00 ish and the electric bill is about 25.00. As I said in another thread they are running nat gas lines like crazy all over my county. I wonder if our bills will go lower with CA banning Nat gas and increasing the supply for the rest of the country.

On edit. I was wrong. Went and looked.

Received an automated call from the city/gas dept yesterday, warning of gas bills rising possibly over $200/month.

Maybe I’ll cut down those 3 goddam trees in my parkway whose roots are causing me problems that the city won’t do anything about….should get a cord out of ‘em…

F' me! We've had snow on the ground off and on, and not the best insulation. Pellet stove for heat runs a bag to 1 ¹/² bags every 2 days...5.25 a bag. Would a heat pump be cheaper to run out there? Or is the electric out of hand as well?
We got a notice from Williams about conserving since natural gas went up 400% and it will affect our electric because of the gas powered electric plants.
Just got our gas bill for 2 homes for arizona.
One has heat on all the time due to freezing weather. One used a jacuzzi for a week, $138.
Last month was $110
Both homes for electric was $84

My early Jan bill. $161. Next month project $220. Heater is not on at night and only on when we are home during the evening and set around 67-68. This morning the house was 62 at 5:30. Set to 66 so the kids will get out of bed. Lol.

Our issue is the enclosed gas fireplace. The kids like to turn it on and lay next to it doing homework.
