Just got home from watching it. It was good. I never realized that those GT40a were so awesome. Can't believe the way they were beating the shit out of those 427s and they held together. It did make all of the ford guys look like dicks. Maybe they were. It's definitely a gear heads movie.

Well she's primed. Get to work. ;)
I think the first date I took my wife on was down the the 1/4 mile at S.I.R. when we first met. I took home two trophies that night.

Can’t wait to see it too. Adam Carolla did a documentary on this story back in 2016 called “24 Hour War”. Netflix just picked it up and it became available Friday. Adam had Matt Damon and Christian Bale on his pod cast last week, it was interesting. If you don’t know, Adam is a huge vintage road racing and Motorsports guy.
I grew up hearing these stories about guys like Ken Miles, Dan Gurney, Mark Donahue, etc from my dad. He raced and worked at Riverside raceway. It’s neat to see this history come back. Wish he was here to share his stories again.

Watched this last night, glad I did before I see the film in the theater.
My one and only race was at Riverside, the Great Bear Grand prix, I think it was 1973.

I’m worried I will walk out of the theatre and go buy another Ford Hot Rod. I’ve been wanting one for years!!

Glad to hear it’s a good movie!

Another thing I forgot to mention in my last post was I couldnt believe that one of the world's best drivers (Miles) actually did so much wrenching. So cool. Could you imagine being on a top tier Le Mans style team where the drivers spent time working on their own race car during the week? That just doesnt happen. Racing in the 60s was so much cooler.

I did notice what I think was a blooper. Right after showing the 427 with fuel injection they were talking about swapping out secondaries.

And hoe did they change the whole brake assembly without bleeding them before running.

My son did a short film on the same story line about 2 years ago. I think that is what triggered the interest on the full length movie.
Take a look. 8 meters by Dan Kahn, Kahn Media. He was also chosen person of the year at SEMA this year.

Awesome. My doctor/customer has a Superformace car. I put FAST EFI and a bigger fuel tank on it for him a couple years ago now. I had IMCO build me the tank.

I am thinking about switching over to a stack injection. The carb works well, but it does not like to sit for months.

My friend in elementary school, his grand father was a new car dealer. My friends dad got a real 427 Cobra in the 1960's. The Dad still had the car when I was in elementary school, so early 1980's. Ever since I've wanted one. His dad also had a 289, but it was in pieces.

Very nice thanks for posting that. I watched the whole video. After seeing the big screen movie it was especially nice to see your sons film.

Yep. That's exactly why we swapped his out! There are a ton of options for EFI these days. Shoot me a PM if you want to discuss.

That's very nice! Is he going to clean it up or do a full resto?

that photo was from back on 2012 when he first pulled it out. I think the plan was to just clean it up and run it. Maybe sell it. Think he still has it though.

Side story, after seeing this movie for the second time tonight. A guy I worked for while going to college in Tucson in 1975 had a beautiful AC Cobra, midnight blue, 289 with 4 webers. I remember leaving a gas station and going thru an intersection sideways all lit up. This car was the shit. He ended up trading it to Jim Click Ford in Tucson for a De Tomaso Mangusto. They gave him $10k for it.

Oh man I'm going nuts seeing all these cars! Thanks for sharing guys!

289 FIA replica but engine was built by Valley Head Service who did most of the work for Shelby. Had 48IDA Down Draft Webbers just like the original FIA cars. As correct as you could get for a rep. My father was pretty talented when it came to tuning those Webbers. He did it for guys all over the west coast. Only replica he ever owned but it was pretty bitchen. He even painted in the garage. It looked like Pebble beach car. I wish I had the talent my father has.

Side note, you can see his La Carrera 64 Falcon in the garage and a 65 Fastback in the drive way. My parents never had a penny but my dad was good at finding deals and doing everything himself.

My dad at Willow Springs for a Cobra Club event circa 1990 or so. Nice body roll. :D

That's a killer car. One of the reason I want to go with stack injection is to get that Webber look. Your dad was a talented guy!

How do they portray Ken Miles in the movie?

How do they say he died - driver error? Mechanical failure?

Over all is he seen as a good guy?

Ken Miles was always kind of a hot head, but I think it was more passion than anything.

As for the way he died, there is still really nothing confirmed to this day what caused the crash. However, I am sure there are people who know, but the general public will probably never know. You will just have to watch the movie to see how they portray the end. ;)

Even though I just saw it with my father, I am going again so I can take my wife. It is such a great flick!

Only time I ever really thought I was going to die on the street, friend driving a replica cobra, dual quad side oiler. Into an intersection hot, and late, making a left turn, and halfway through he lifts.
Going to take the family to see this. The boys will be good, and the wife will go because it's what we do.
But just like when we saw dust to Glory,at the end she will be exhausted with tears in her eyes. Lol

My son is 30 now. He went to see the movie and liked it. He always said it that one day he's going to get one;) The sickness with cars runs deep in the family.:D He was about 5-6 in this picture. My buddy built two of these, but kept his Caterham Lotus only.Much better handling car, if you know what I mean.;)

My bad I guess those were webers I was looking at. But I don't think they have secondaries either.

Just shot my dad a call and it's not really a secondary but there is a crossover out of the idle circuit to a main circuits but no secondaries like you suggested. It is a two-barrel progressive carb and the IDA provides a dedicated barrel to each cylinder and can therefore be optimized for that cylinder rather than compromising in order to be able to serve 8 cylinders and not requiring a secondary. All I know is they are confusing. :D

I believe only the 289 GT40s ran Webers ever and all the 427s were running single 4bbl Holleys.

Just read this online.
" Weber carburetors operate in two different modes. The first mode is with small throttle openings. In this mode there is very little air flow and very high manifold vacuum. Fuel is delivered by using manifold vacuum to suck fuel into the air stream. The other mode is with large throttle openings. In this mode, there is a lot of air flow but very little manifold vacuum. Fuel is delivered by using the fast-moving air to suck fuel into the air stream using the Bernoulli principle."

letting efi sit for months is just as bad. with all the ethanol in the fuel today, that garbage gums up and goes stale very quickly.

stack injection works very well if you get a good computer. its tricky to map these things and need 4d capabilities.
