Yeah FF get a bad rap, but I have seen some done nicely (and some horribly). Not as nice as your Superformance though; it looks super clean! What is the price of a MKIII roller?

When I bought, a roller was about 50K. I would guess that's up at least 20K. Last time I talked to Lance, a base MKIII with motor / trans and install was going to start at about 100K.

Real? That is worth 150k or more depending on history. WOW!!!!

Funny story. That car had the Hi-Po 289 or (K-code) which had solid lifters, 4bbl, hotter cam, 10.5/1 compression, thicker main bearing caps etc, etc. So a lot of people would rent the Hertz cars and swap out the engine in to their D, C or A code Mustangs. Hertz was none the wiser so many Hertz cars do not have the original engines. Lucky it is easy to tell if there has been an engine swap because in 65-66 Mustangs only the Hi-Po 289 VIN was stamped into the block. It's assumed that the Hi-Po was stamped either for warranty reasons or for identity purposes because those engines were more likely to be stolen.

Another cool fact. They were 17.00 a day to rent and .17 cents a mile! That is crazy expensive. Considering you can still rent a car today for literally 19.95 a day!

You mean an original 60's CSX car? 250k to 5mil or so depending on history. :D

Kit wise you can pick up stuff super cheap. 15k to 25k will get you stuff that may need some work but will be complete.

Personally I feel the best kits are ERA and Superformance. Superformance used to be junk when they first came over to the states. They are now the standard in high quality replicas or continuation cars. However, if you buy one of the complete Factory Five kits or some of the others and do them right they can be ok. Factory Five gets a bad rap as people make it sound like it sits on a Fox body doner car chassis which isn't true. If you buy their base kit, it requires some stuff from a late model Mustang however, you can build them with whatever components you want. However, their Cobra Roadsters are known not to be within factory body demenions. I was told their Daytona Coupe is very close to an original in terms of geometry.

My problem with most kit cars is people bastardize them with so much aftermarket stupid stuff that completely sways them away of what real Cobra was ie, big wheels, LS engines, wrong size engines for the platform, bolt on wheels that are supposed to look like pin-drives with fact knock off caps, stupid colors etc, chrome Cobra Snake emblems all over tem etc etc, but to each their own I guess.

^^^ Spot on.

The F5 I service belongs to a friend of mine. With the car on the rack, it is actually pretty impressive! Well built. Well designed. And everything fits real nice.

What is'nt the best about it is (just like BR said) the way the body looks. My friend went out and bought some spacers for the rear wheels to make the wheels look right in the wheel wells. It doesn't have the best "look", but it is a well built chassis. There were no Mustang components on it that i could see. I was expecting to see a whole front clip from what I had been told about it. The suspension was pretty nice. I think my friend paid around 50k for the car complete. It was the cheapest DECENT car he could find. This was about 6 months ago.

My doctor paid 125k for his Superformance car. That was a few years ago. They both have the 418ci engine. The both f'n haul azz!!!

It's real. 18k on the odometer. He said his dad bought it for $7k 40 years ago.

Was at a Christmas party yesterday and while sitting and having a beer by the pool, started a conversation with the guy sitting next to me. He worked for Carroll Shelby back in the late 60's. The stories started rolling out and the crowed got bigger. You just never know who is sitting next to you.

I had the cover on the car and just rolled it up to start it. Too lazy I guess. :)

Worked for a guy in Toledo, OH in 1976-78 painting custom cars. Did lots of cool stuff and Jerry my boss worked with George Barris who built the Bat Mobile, and Monsters car. We also had a 1966 289 Cobra that was a Shelby race race. come in for a restoration and paint. 289 with dual quads and Just a drivers seat, no in fender liners, full roll bar, side pipes, and knock off wheels. Jerry told me it would do 0-100 mhp in 10 seconds! So he we test drove it on a backroad. I sat on the floor with a stop watch and we easily did the run in less than 10 seconds!
He would not let me drive but it was one of the most exciting rides ever.
We shot it candy apple red and put 15 coats of clear lacquer that I wet sanded with 600 grit between coats.
The owner entered the car in the Chicago auto show and it won best paint.

The 427 Cobra did 0-100-0 in 10 sec, a record that held until recently (in the last 10 years) when a new 427 vette beat it by roughly a half a second.

If I recall, the car we drove was very light and over 400 hp.
It was not a street legal car. No headlights, wipers, heater just race car.
After it was complete we added those items to get a plate. Our speed run was race car only version.

The part of riding on the floor board reminded me of of story I heard about the first 427 cobra. I shot the video with my phone while listening to the story.

427 did 0-100-0 in 13.8, a wildly impressive feat at the time. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a15141361/1965-shelby-cobra-427-road-test/

Current standings of the 0-100-0 test. Doing that amount of acceleration and deceleration in 7.9 seconds just sounds unpleasant. https://supercarlists.com/fastest-cars-0-100-0-mph
