Man up- handshake always.
When I returned to work about a month ago after 20 months of working from home due to Covid. Myself and many coworkers were shaking hands and glad to see each other. This one guy I knew was too girly for a handshake so I put my fist out for a little bump and he was like terrified and said oh no only an elbow touch. I went along with it thinking to myself whatever fag.

If your close enough to fist bump ya might as well hand shake.
If your close enough to hand shake ya might as well hug it up.
If your close enough to hug it up ya might as well give a little smooch on the cheek European style…
Next thing you know, everyone is docking.

Always put my hand out to shake. In some cases, I may show my hand to show intent, but to show my hands are dirty...you can tell a lot by people's response.
Same now, with covid cooties or grease, same response from the same types.

Always a handshake in professional environments. I’d be interested to hear from the younger RDP’rs. I’d say the handshake isn’t really a thing in the inner city with 20 something’s. It’s a fist bump or bro hug deal or nothing.

i dont know if i qualify as "younger" im 36. i would say im in the same boat as @SBMech and @monkeyswrench i always extend the hand for a handshake, if i know you your getting a hug. sometimes the hand goes but i will say "watch the grease / oil."

I'm 44. Just old enough to have met and sold parts to some of the really cool old school hot rodders...including your Grandfather. When I was in my 20s, I met guys who's names I knew and respected. They extended their hand to some young putz, and that stuck with me.

I'm still having a hard time adjusting to the fist bump. Always been a hand shaker. Not sure what's proper etiquette anymore. Anybody else?

Honestly with this covid shit I’m kinda switching over to the bump.. lol

Seems like everyone I know has got covid right now. Some first time, some second, one third. 😳

Handshake
While Covid changed things, I still extend the handshake when I get to see customers and peers

Most likely that you're in a position where you have to deal with it more than most of us, you know, like being approached by strangers when you're trying to eat lunch. 👍

im right there with you on some of the old school guys. the one that sticks with me is Mike Kuhl. I first met him in my early 20's, he built our first nitro engine. he welcomed me into his shop and let me hang around and look over his shoulder in the beginning and then put my ass to work for him. i was in his shop 3-4 days a week for hours on end. taught me so much and not just about engines, he also introduced me to people i had only read about in magazines or heard stories about. Mike for sure left a lasting impression on me.

Mike was an interesting guy on his own. He knew a lot of folks, that's for sure. He did a couple "little" 6/71's for me in the early 2000s. Was nice enough to explain to me how and why things were done. Even the important stuff (to me at least), like how to shim the drive gears to get the right tolerances and such.

With how gross people are I don't care if there is no contact and I've been this way for years. Handshake or fist bump I'm looking to rinse my hands right after. I'm also the person that has their own pen to sign receipts or documents, especially in restaurants, bars, and the bank.
