Thanks all.

I am back home. Procedue was said to be a success according to Dr Korc. Which is amazing by the way in his bedside manner and explaining everything.

I was out much longer then expected. Close to three hours. Usually takes 30-45 mins but he said mine was “complicated”. They used 11 hemostatis clips, which is pretty high.

At home now with my girls, feel like was run over by a truck. Got some chicken noodle soup. But overall sucess.

Follow up camera in 6 months. I feel truly like I dodged a huge bullet!
Did you get any pics? LOL
Glad to hear things went well.

I did my first a couple of years ago, was concerned but it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Drank lots of liquids, the bowel cleansing stuff etc. I try to go in to difficult things in life with a focus on humor.. and read about what this entails. When I came out of the of the procedure I knew the nurses would ask me to go to the bathroom and that uncontrollably passing gas was a side effect.

I woke up in the recovery room and the nurse helped me to the bathroom. When I got back to the bed she asked if everything was OK. I was dead serious and asked if the doc was missing a Rolex because I found one in the toilet. She laughed her ass off.

I had a couple of polyps that the doc snipped off, not cancerous after further testing. Waiting for the results was stressful but knowing this important testing was done was a huge weight off my shoulders.

It isn't that impactful of a procedure, just a change in your normal routine and worth the minimal impediment to your daily program.

Truth. Snipped a few polyps on m second colonoscopy here, after 60. I was 247 last year, and said screw this. 197 now. Diet plan" Summer, West Texas. Funny, I was almost 6 foot, 5-11 now. 47 years in Tile, and no discs will do that.

66 now. In between, PSA went borderline, trended high, needle biopsy, awake, after 13 sticks, not fun. Was negative.

PSA came down, then Indicated high again. Abdominal MRI showed a mass. May. June, Second biopsy, strapped in, out like a light, probably looked like something out of Silence of the Lambs. I didn't even bleed afterwards like the first time, and I was prepared with mini Pads. Unlike the first time. Damn near ruined my Levis. But I digress. The Nurse was about to come looking, almost bumped into her as I exited the bathroom, which was funny, and she was quite impressed at the volume, I could tell.

Last thing the last nice Nurse in recovery said to me as they wheeled me out. "God Bless You."

Doc's Nurse calls a week or so later with the labs, negative. Godspeed Gentlemen.

Final Update on my Journey: I got a call from Hoag this afternoon. My Dr's nurse told me that all of my mass came back clear on the pathology, no malignancy detected. She said I am "cured" and will see me in February for a follow up Scope.

The world stood still for a minute when she said this. I felt like a stack of bricks was removed from my chest.

She told me that she doesn't get to tell good news often. I was so thankful I cant even express words. I then thought of my buddy on the 11th floor who just was rushed in to get intubated again, he has been in 4 months now. He did not get scoped, he is 63. The nurse asked me to promise to use my story as a tool to spread awareness. I assured her I would.

I was given a second chance, and I am not going to let that get away.

Thanks for everyone who has followed along and offered me kind words and PM'ed me. I cant say how much it helped me clear my head.

Nightmare exam. I had the jelly thumb from hell experience. I made my prostrate appt. With a now retired proctologists in Santa Barbara. I had heard he was a big man but this is ridiculous. So I checked in for my appointment and was ushered into the exam room for the wait of Doom. When the door opened I turned around and this guy was taking up the whole door frame. I looked at this monster’s hands & he looked like he was holding a bunch of bananas in each hand. That’s when I started to sweat, he was all business, checked my name & birthdate then told me to get up on the table against a wall laying on my left side. When he slipped that banana finger in my ass I actually yelled out “you mutherfucker” while I was trying to climb that wall. This is no shit right here, I will swear on both my parents grave. While he was buggering me with that banana finger he said “I can tell you’re not from San Francisco” I wasn’t able to laugh about that for about three days . That was the worst 20 seconds of my life , that’s a one way valve as far as I’m concerned 🇱🇷
I had one of those guys on my second time up there.... I might've forgotten to take a morning dump and I swear it felt like he was pushing my shit back the wrong way. Always poop before going in for one of these wonderful experiences. What was I thinking.

Guilty. I’m 57 never had one. Wife finally gave up pushing me to get it done. I’ve had the drink thing in my closet for a year. I never made the appt.
Soooo. Today I have an appt with my doc to get blood work checked for the hell of it, freeze a spot of my head and have him update my referral to get the colonoscopy scheduled. I need to do it 🤦‍♂️

The liquid prep of Miralax mixed with Gatorade is the way to go. Much more tolerable that the typically prescribed prep. Only way to go.
Does it matter what flavor?

Nope. Miralax is tasteless so it’ll go with any flavor Gatorade.
I was wondering because sometimes they worry about the coloring of what you take but I guess you just get scoped

The color is usually brown. Seriously the food dye might be an issue, but my preference is lemon lime so I’ve never had a problem.

You guys have to keep up on prostate issues X10 at age 50+. My father and brother both had cancer, caught it early
So not life ending. Now I have to got to LA for a specific biopsy. Stay alive, yearly labs, etc.

My dr would never do a prostate exam. When I saw him at 50 and said I wanted a full Physical he said you look great. BP is good but we can do some blood work. That was it. Today he actually had me get up on the table push up with my legs and arms against his force. Pressed on my abdomen then looked in my ears etc. stupid basic. Then I told him I wanted full blood work again which I went and did after. Gotta do the stool sample thing and schedule the colonoscopy now. It’s a start I guess. We have a clean family history

You gotta be your own advocate for sure. The stool sample thing is not reliable. Good call on the scope with that as well.

He should also be screening in your bloodwork for the prostate PSA levels.

Always get bloodwork ar least once a year so you can look back and see any patterns or oddities.

Youre right, some of these Dr’s want to rush thru and not even do anything.

Kinda sounds like he's not a fan of the ole Jelly on the glove thing.... might wanna consider finding another dr. As a patient I would think some of us might struggle with " Hey aren't you supposed to be sticking a finger up me about now?"

Colonoscopy scheduled today at 130. Agreed on the two prep drinks (taste similar to a watered down monster) then you’re stuck on the John for an hour. Great post gqchris
Only an hour?😁 Hoping for good results.

That propofol is amazing, toughest part is the prep as stated. One small polyp removed. No wonder why Michal Jackson loved the propofol!
I 100% agree. Best 20 minute nap of my life. I can see how that can become addicting. I felt incredibly rested after my colonoscopy.

November is men’s cancer awareness month. There are many fundraisers for men’s cancer research, including Lamborghini corporation that puts on events throughout the beginning of the month known as Movember. Some great money raised every year.

Just had my prostate removed Tuesday , the colonoscopy is child’s play, but the worst
part once they tell you about your prostate they drop the next 2 bombs , bone scan , and ct scan to make sure it didn’t spread. The surgery is robotic the dr runs a basic video game to remove it, once I saw the operating room and they put me on the table and I looked around it looked like a star wars set, crazy how many machines were in there , they didn’t let me see much I was out within 10 seconds of being moved onto the table

Colonoscopy - If you get a choice between the flavored drink or the numerous large tablets with lots of water, I much prefer the flavored liquid. They each work.

Fyi; if anyone plans on a biopsy on their prostate for potential cancer, please DM me they’re not all the same. There’s only a few places in Southern California, and no one in southern Nevada that has a unique technology that overlays an MRI results with live ultrasound to find the exact spot to get a sample. no guessing
Tower urology in West LA. x-10.
