Hey Guys,

I am 49 and Proactively had my first Endo and preventive Colonoscopy today.

Like you all have said, the prep is the worse part. That stuff tastes horrible. It was hard to keep it down when drinking. Being knocked out for the first time in my life was pretty cool (aside from passed out from alcohol! LOL). Propofol is some good shit.

So they found 5 smaller polyps and clipped those, but Dr. said there was one that was too big to use the scope with and I would need a specialist with surgery for that.

Well, that freaked me the hell out. He told me he does not think it is cancer, which was somewhat reassuring, but that of course we would wait for pathology. He said my endo showed a hiatal hernia, gastritis and ulcers. Told me to take Prilosec x 2 a day.

He gave me an appt for next month to review and didn't seem too concerned?

The ride home was a bit surreal. I kinda was hoping this would have been a "It looks good, see ya in 5 years" type of thing. But not the case here. I am slightly freaked. I know you guys have been thru this personally. I remember threads where members had this same scenario and they are no longer with us. RIP guys.

I will say that this has sparked my dumbass into high gear to get my Trust finally handled to protect my girls. Appointment has been made. I am down 25lbs in the weight loss dept. I haven't drank alcohol in two years. But maybe all these changes are a day late?

I hope I am just freaking out about nothing. A lot of my buddies told me that the Dr. has no benefit to "sugar coating" things, and if it looked bad, he would have said it.

I am very happy you guys convinced me to push to get this done and early detection is key. I can 100% assure you that it was the threads telling us to get our selves in their and handle this that pushed me to go. I thank you for that!

Thanks for reading my rambling:)

Any labs back on the 5 removed ones yet?

My first one 10 years ago clipped out 2 pre-cancerous polyps.
6 years later they clipped out 2 more that were also pre-cancerous.
Doc said split the difference and see me in 7 years. (That was 3 years ago)
I’m not well versed on colon cancers, but I think it’s one of the slower developing cancers? That’s why it’s 5 year spacing even with pre cancerous polyps?

Dang bro...

Getting old ain't for pussies. Start taking care of yourself!!!

Maybe take the stairs instead of the elevator? 🤣

You'll be fine. Being proactive is good!

👍🏼👍🏼
Been trying sir! Gave up all the vices in my life and getting my ass in better shape. I dont know if thats what causes colon cancer or not, but I need to tighten this up!

For first timers I highly recommend you DO NOT look at the scope tool at any time if possible.
If you see it you’ll never feel the same about yourself afterwards…😱
I did not watch any Youtube videos as I knew it would not have a good effect on me!

Wait until ( actually hope no one has to) you have both done in one setting - colonoscopy and endoscopy
then you won't worry about what the tool looks like........just which procedure they do first:rolleyes::eek::oops:😂

I'm every 3 years now for both - because of the Endoscopy

you did the best thing - got checked
now you known you have a couple items to address

100% stressful when you are told you might have cancer. Waiting for the test results eats at you.
I was full on stressed when my wife had a bump behind her knee that was tested. Dr called my wife 3 days later (dr was on vacation) and told my wife the news. Surgery scheduled 1 week later and it took a week to get margin tests back. I was full on stressed and in a shit mood until we got word margins came back clear (all cancer removed).

Easy to say don’t stress, but harder to do.

Good on you getting it done, it saved my life about 15 years ago. Cancerous tumor found, clipped, and it had not passed through the vascular wall.
I was blessed, very blessed.
Once the pathology comes back on the stuff the took get going on the removal of the larger one, that doesn't sound like something ya want to wait on.

Only advice I can give is; you can’t change it or speed up the news. So having a positive mindset helps. My wife always said; I got this, all we can do is deal with each step as told. Can’t stress about what we don’t know

Thanks Flyin, did they clip it thru the normal scope or was it separate procedure?

He got it with the scope.
I started having the "Big Look", at 46. My Dad died at 56. 12 months before his diagnosis with cancer he had a polyp taken off in a procedure in a major medical center in Long Beach. He was diagnosed with cancer in his liver/pancreas Thanksgiving Day 1983 and died on December 19th.
Going back though his records we never got a bill for the lab work...
My Mom and I suspect they missed the diagnosis in the lab, and the cancer started there. So, in an abundance of caution I had my first scope AT 46.
And there it was....slow growing, would have been a couple more years before it got loose, and I may have suffered the same fate as my father.

You've done the right thing. Now, get it taken care of, and move on. There will undoubtedly be another colonoscopy in your future. That's a good thing. Too many others did not get that opportunity.

Bunch-a whiners. Wait till you’ve had your bladder inspected with a scope shoved up your dick! Now THAT’S a scary-looking instrument, and it ain’t no fun! 😱 No propofol provided either. When my doctor wanted me to have it done again a few years later, I told him “No fucking way! I’d rather take my chances!”.

I had the same scenario in 2020. They found some small stuff and told me I would need to return for a follow up to remove the big one. They did the removal using the same procedure just with a more skilled Dr. Everything came back clear and I am on my 4th or 5th one to complete the removal.

I had the same surreal car ride home and was stressing like crazy.

This is what I was hoping to read. Thanks Brother.

Yea he acted like it was routine and he said "my colleague will handle that larger one".

I am keeping fingers crossed that mine is the same outcome.

I never had any symptoms and am regular, no blood etc. But I know its the damn silent killer. So scary.

The best part is when they don’t tell you that they are filling up your bladder with water and you think you just pissed all over yourself and the table. Good times. 🙄

Mine all started when I did the poop test and it came back positive. I was freaking out and reluctant to go in for the scope. After they found the "big one" they scheduled me for a bunch of blood work and a CT scan. Thankfully everything came back negative.

I think we all have a little somethin growing in our colon. LOL

I waited too long.... However, it's been over 7 years since I was diagnosed. Fortunately, my cancer is lazy, like me, so it's slow growth and has no interest in traveling to other organs. I can't say enough about the amazing medical advances and Doctors who implement them.

The prep never really bothered me that much.
I’ve had the same pack of pull on diapers for like 10 years now. 😂😎
It’s the best way to sleep for a while at the end of the cycle.
The last couple of times I got 2 gallons of CLEAR gatorade by the time i was done put it in and right out my ass came ice cold gatorade no problem

Had this done late last fall. Was out for the whole thing with no discomfort other than the prep.

Have had both done at the same time 3 times now. The last two. The prep is so different. It’s even really easy. Considering.
I’ve also never had any discomfort on either end. I’ll just be thankful for that.

I had my first one done last month. I’m 45. I did the pills and it was really easy. 5 polyps were found, 1 being pre cancerous. I get to go back in 3 years. The doctor wasn’t worried and said “this is why we do this”. Like you, it’s been a wake up that we’re not invincible.

Some Docs have gone to pills instead of the liquid prep. Same resulting draino effect.
I heard the pills are huge, and you have to take 4, and four pills again, and a final four…. I don’t like big pills

Too bad the Colonoscopy gets such a bad wrap. Because it’s a quick and painless procedure that’s not a big deal at all. Now they have the two small bottles to drink to clean you out, they don’t taste too bad either, just like a warm diet Monster energy drink. After the procedure you’re so happy you can eat anything you want. I went to Wood Ranch and cleaned my plate like nothing happened. A simple procedure that can save your life. Get yours done soon!
