Think about the volume transmission lines thats currently feeding the grid thru out the US…

If the projections are accurate, that has to be doubled in 10-15 years to meet the needs… Yes most large Investor Owned Utilities are expecting their load to double in 10-15 years to meet the forecasted needs.

Honestly I think the projections are wrong. Even if I am wrong about that, it takes way to much time to get thru all the lawsuits, then the permits, then lead times on raw materials and finally build the new infrastructure to begin with, even if you could build the generation plants, I dont think you could build the transmission lines to accomodate that extra generation in the time frame the projections call for.

Or the other solution is boat load of battery’s, which the rate payers cannot afford.

One way or the other… its gonna be shit show, demand cannot increase, without more capacity… that takes alot of $$$$ and time.

Regardless the ####s are not adding up to me. But I am not a politician or a policy maker.

I have a 10KW generator ($1K on Amazon for an open frame) that I just back feed a 50A 2P breaker on my panel and turn off the main. Just check the main every so often with a hot stick to see if power is back on, if so, disconnect the generator and flip back on the main. It will run everything I need except the AC units which don't matter right now.

Makes for a little inconvenience but it's better than the alternative.

We are going on 2 years for a DWR pothole permit.

Environmental is blocking a job that I’m scared to even talk about that needs to be built yesterday and we can’t get the clearance to do so.

Cities ask for upgrades and when we do so they say they don’t like it so do it another way or no permit. No biggie we can just ignore standards I guess.

Tribal is trying to block a huge job because they might have lived on that land years ago and don’t want us to damage artifacts.

I'm over by Blue Jay. Edison has run that coated wire all over the place in my area. About the last three PSPS events up there haven't resulted in a power shut off for me and I have to figure it's all the Edison work recently.

I still have a portable genset and just recently added a whole home genset so I'm covered either way but so far its way better than it used to be. At least in my area. Hopefully yours is the same.

Why the hot stick ? I just look at my meter, it will show if the line side power is back on, regardless of the status of the main breaker.
No issues with your computer or sensitive electronics running off an non-invertor gennie ?
I've heard both ways, often it depends on how heavy it's loaded and the types of load.

Covered wire helps, but is not a fool proof solution, and that was a multi year project, I I know the area, you were probably off plenty of times while a lot of that work went on.

Yeah they did my area December 2020. Thankfully the weather held. In addition to the coated wire, I got a new pole for my property.

And yes, they did outages for all the other local areas before and after mine, so for a time it was pretty crazy but I didn't mind it if it was making things better. And so far it has been.

Another controversy was aggressive tree trimming, I know that was a huge fight, but really does help.

Covered conductor is worthless if a huge tree rips through it.

Clearly I took it the other way.

Utilities are generally considered the bad guy so it's a short jump to blame them, Edison is spending a small fortune to have their logo on the side of the huge water drop chopper. I have no idea what that cost them but you can imagine why.

This is the situation as of a few minutes ago, with 46,661 still off and with little to no wind and I'm guessing really chaffs folks asses.
A little over an hour ago that count was closer to 56,000, so it does appear some areas are starting to come back online.

So the way the PSPS works is once they de-energize the line every inch needs to be patrolled before they re-energize, its a continuity thing. so the event can be over but they may not have done a patrol.
Trust me the field guys don't like it and didn't vote for it. many of them live in these areas just like you guys.
