I need one too please guys.... I hear going rates $350-400 and they can do it through emails with just the VIN and Registration sent. So in CA they can be anywhere geographically.

Thanks for the post. DM is best for privacy.

You guys don’t realize the risk you put a smog tech in asking for this . The tech always gets caught and in some cases they go after the person receiving the smog cert .
You may want to sit this thread out. Of course the techs realize risk. Thats why they only deal on the downlow... think of it as a drug deal if that helps.

Trying to remember the last thread on RDP where someone said, "Hey guys, anyone know a good coke dealer?".

Wonder if our resident BAR (retired) member will come along and comment.

As a former smog tech, no way would I have answered this request, and no way would I have replied to some random dude that said he got my name off of the internet. But then again, no way would I have done an illegal smog.

We all know here on RDP how hard it can be to go public with information. [Just ask our brother in arms Big Man Dan] Perhaps I should've thought this through more. However this site has proven for many of us Inmates to be an excellent resource in many matters.

Old RX7s would only pass if you ran them at a couple thousand RPM for a few minutes before testing.

Fresh oil change and a new air filter helps too. If it's an OLD ride, change the PCV filter and valve also.

A couple donuts in the parking lot work well. Just got to get the heat up into the cats :)

Gone are the days of the sniff test on modern cars where you have to pass odbii readiness checks which require some drive cycles etc. you used to just beat on it and get the cats hot so the sensor they stick in the tailpipe reads “clean”. Now it’s needed to data log and find out actually why it won’t pass. Everything has a reason it does/doesn’t work. It’s amazing the amount of data modern cars have at your fingertips on how the car actually is running. You just need the right tools.

Or you could blindly just throw parts at it like suggested above.

You're such a fucking douche sometimes! 🤣

I'm sure you KNOW there weren't a whole lot of computer controls on cars prior to the 90's?

Yet, everything back to 76 has to be smogged?

Is your face there under "condescending" in the dictionary? If not, it sure should be! 👍🏼🤣😜

This thread became fun lately. We went from Smog to Blow in short order. Some of you are welcome out there, ha.

I see no need to adjust any of my rides to the point they can’t pass emissions. 😉

Maybe I should settle for the coke, is that what I'm reading? :p
I'm thinking if you find the right guy, that's gonna work in your favor... 🙃 🤪 🤑

When I needed a favor from "My Guy" a few fat honkers certainly helped convince him I was not only on the up and up, but that I was bro too! 😉

That's not what this is. I'm just a regular dad trying not to get bent over by the dealer for technical bullshit on my daughter's daily driver. For once in my life, I'm saying fucc it; tired of getting shafted for playing by the rules.

Sans the coke stuff... :D 👍
Fill out the form telling them it is stored in another state. Did this for 15 years on one of my trucks.

@dribble

I saw this thread yesterday but decided not to comment. But I will say this. In a cert by phone deal it will always show up in the data unless the tech plugs into the exact year, make and model of the vehicle with the same options. Most clean plugs are done using one vehicle that belongs to someone at the shop. So you get say 10 smogs from a vehicle with the exact same communication protocol and pid counts that show up on 10 vehicles that are supposed to have different communication protocols and have different pid counts. It’s a slam dunk and licenses have been revoked on that data alone. If it appears that the shop/tech are running a lucrative illegal smog business then other means are employed and felony charges are often filed. But like anything else, if there’s enough money to be made someone will do it. Have I charged people criminally ? Yes. But they were cases where someone unknowingly ended up with a car that needed thousands of dollars to repair and the shop/techs told the victims and us to fuckoff. I don’t have a stake in this anymore and I feel that the EPA and CARB have way too much power. I personally have never had a desire to modify my stuff in a manner where I would have to seek out help from a criminal. That said, I’m glad there’s no inspection program for motorcycles.

My guy did my truck for 150 bucks. That’s all I will say about this topic though. There’s more than one place in Pomona that will do it.
That sounds like the crack head pricing. No offense to the guy but damn lol.

It depends on the car. A pre OBD2 car is easy to “fake” a smog since nothing plugs in. They could literally put any car on the dyno and run the tests.

There are multiple levels… there is “look the other way” stuff, - a non CARB compliant intake for example, and then there is falsifying data for the test.

You can have a car that does not pass visual, but passes all the tests with flying colors. That is why there is a big discrepancy with costs.

My old Yaris commuter car was used by DC Sports to develop their exhaust header for the platform. The header never got its CARB EO number to make it legal. I had sort of an aloof smog dude by my house I always used for my stuff. He never looked at anything if the car passed the plug in tests, and he never charged any extra. I had that thing smogged twice, he never even noticed it, as the header is under a cover behind the engine. 3rd time I took it to a new guy, car passed every test and at the last second the guy stuck his head back there to look and failed me. 😂.
