The moon rotates at the same speed the Earth does because of a force called gravitational tidal locking. As a result the same side of the moon is always seen from our viewpoint.
The dark side is illuminated by sunlight during the 29.5 day monthly moon phases, but because of the timing it cannot be observed.
So is one side of the moon always dark, or not?
