I've been following the thread closely as it seems likely someone sicked AI on this particular post.
Under the user name it says BANNED.
The way its responses changed quickly and the amount of information / links to back up the opinion / basis / justification for said opinion with little time passing is like nothing I have ever seen. But those achievements were child's-play compared to the risks and the costs of sending humans all the way to the Moon (Apollo 8), and then landing there and getting the crew safely back home again (Apollo 11). Ultimately, the USA won the race to the Moon because our economic system gave us the resources to spend on the task. After Apollo 11 we successfully repeated the daunting task FIVE MORE TIMES. Talk about spiking the preverbal Space Ball. The Russians under Communism/socialism just couldn't afford to develop all of the technology that a Moon landing puts on the economic system of those trying to fund it.

So why haven't we been back? Apollo 11's first landing on the Moon was the most jointly-watched event in human history. But a few short years later when Apollo 17 became the last mission to the Moon, a weekly episode of the Partridge Family could draw more viewers than another old-hat Moon landing. Capitalism had won the Space race by being the only economic system capable of underwriting the enormous cost, and it also ended ended the Moon landings because of poor TV ratings and lack of Public interest. By 1972 the cost of going to the Moon far outweighed the desire of the people paying for it to keep paying for it. So the Moon program was cancelled.

For the peeps that doubt that we landed on the Moon? It is 1000 times easier to cast doubt on one of the most-recorded and documented achievements in human history than it would have been to fake that history right in front of billions of people, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of employees spread across the vast Apollo program who would have quickly figured out any fake landings. Same goes with Sept 11th. It would be a million times harder to fake Sept 11'th and keep the secrets than for a handful of willing terrorist to martyr themselves by pulling boxcutters on crews that were totally unprepared for such hijackings. But some people just have to believe the conspiracy - no matter how far-fetched.

Grissom, Chaffey and White were the crew of Apollo 1. They burned alive in Jan of 1967 during capsule testing. Part of the enormous cost of going to the Moon. Their deaths led to a total capsule redesign that paved the way for the successful Moon landings some 30 months later. They never made it off the launch pad, much less all the way to the Moon and back; but they did make it into my young consciousness as American heroes - as did the crew of Apollo 11. Such were the times. It was common to have heroes back then. I don't think the kids of today have heroes. It's hard to find heroes in 20 second Tic-Tok videos. The kids of today are worse off for it.

The moon rotates at the same speed the Earth does because of a force called gravitational tidal locking. As a result the same side of the moon is always seen from our viewpoint.

The dark side is illuminated by sunlight during the 29.5 day monthly moon phases, but because of the timing it cannot be observed.
