Water is lower than I've ever seen it. This is looking out from Oak Shores and then looking back towards the narrows from west ramp of Oak Shores. Taken today. Depressing. :(:(:(

When does it go to deadpool? I know its weird to hear this from a fellow boater but I would love it if we got no rain this year and Nacimiento went to deadpool, Monterey county would be fucked and would damn near guarantee they would loose control of the lake and dam.

Was up there a few weeks ago at some property at the end of Las tables. It was a Trip driving my SXS where you normally drive your boat. My buddy said it was like driving on the moon. I've never seen that lake so low and I never realized how deep the cove is in certain areas of Las Tables.

SBM, totally fucking sad. Something has to be done about this. If I owned property up there I'd be pissed off. I was actually looking at some acreage up there to purchase, its on hold for sure.

This is horrible. I signed the last petition that was circulated but what else can be done?

Whats causing that? Just no rain ?
Lake Nacimiento is in San Luis Obispo County but Monterey County has control of the water releases and they empty it for their farmlands and the salmon run that hasn't happened in decades. Basically it doesn't hurt their property taxes but helps their farmlands and taxes, and San Luis Obispo County gets screwed with property taxes when those houses aren't worth what they were bought for.

There's lots of threads on it but it's an on-going fight over water rights and the person that holds the dam water switch doesn't give an F about the recreational aspect of the lake.

I did just heard though that through the recent lawsuit it was learned that those that drain the lake most likely DON'T have the rights or access they believe they do and that it was all based on some handshake back in the day. Would be good news if it turns out to be true. But this is the info being passed around the Oak Shores Homeowners Assoc.

Did it go up at all from the last rains, or did it just go out as fast as it came in?

It didn't rain too hard up there to make much a difference. Came up a little, dropped back down while they kept dumping water.

That lake is a trip though, it literally raises somewhere in the area of 10' per 1" of rain! You can literally watch the lake rise when there a down pour.

If you guys are interested in this there is a group that has gotten together to fight the draining of the lake. They are attempting to raise money to sue the county I believe.

Lee the owner of Schiada is on the board of the group incharge of the project to restore the lake.

Looking back into the beginning of the narrows where it does a hard left turn right before it narrows way down.

Sad to see. That lake was always on my bucket list.
It will be back up full at some point, the problem its the idiots that are in charge of the water will have it right back to these pics. I've been fortunate to boat at a lot of lakes, super coo place.

Anybody looking to help with the legal fight against Monterey County Water Resources Board the Nacimiento Regional Water Management Advisory Commitee (NRWMAC) can use help with the legal funds for the water attorney they have hired that is suing Monterey County Water for this entire shit show.

The Oak Shores Owner's association seems to have been the most involved in this so I would not be surprised if there is some truth to that. And if there is...... Holy shit would that change things!

The ground was so dry it usually takes the first 4 inches or so before there is any substantial run off.

I'll be donating money. Great cause, hopefully it will help.

and yea, my buddies family has owned in Oak Shores for many years and has one of the nicest houses on the point right next to the totumpole just east of the main marina. They are very involved with this fight. At one point they considered selling their house because of the issues but now have decided to go all in and are ponying up a SHIT-TON of money to help the cause. The way they look at it is their 1.5 million home may lose half it's value with a dry lake so why not use a large portion of that equity to hopefully win this fight?

As you know Brian, the info on this topic has always been vague and all over the place but the recent info I heard from them about who actually owns the right to the land sounded very, very reliable. It could be the tied that changes this fight. Fingers crossed.

Every time these depressing pics come around I have to look back on the good times we've had there over the years. That lake has always been so much fun. I have no doubt it'll return like it always does, just need to resolve the draining issue once and for all. It's because the lake fills so quick in the winters is why this fight has drug on. People lose their drive when the lake is full and it being nearly dry is out of site / out of mind.

Some better times:

Good comparison. This pic of our cig was taken from the dock that's sitting on the shore now. Basically both pics looking in the same direction from the same place. For reference, look at the tallest tree sticking up about the middle of the bow. You can see that same tree sticking up in the dock pic off to the left of the pic.

Naci will be fine when the rain comes. The water and dam debacle is another complicated bucket of crapola. I hope someone can figure it out.

Absolutely! It will take 4 days of pouring and the lake will be full. Now if we don't get anymore rain this year, it's going to be bone dry this summer. But I've never personally seen it this low. The draining of the dam is just getting worse and worse

Naci's a cool place with water. This is a very vivid, visual example of what's wrong with Kalifornia. So fuc'd up for so long and more to come.

I'm surprised the scavengers with their metal detectors aren't out there having a field day finding all the shit people dropped

For what purpose is the water being drained? Seems irrigation should be tailing off at this time.

That's always the question of the day. And everyday you'll get a different answer from different people on the water board. It is a prime example of shady backroom deals being covered up from public view.

That’s the wullquestion of the decade. It isn’t just Naci but all the lakes?? It seems like they are draining everywhere to keep telling people we are in a drought?

No not all the lakes in So Cal. Castaic and Pyramid are at good levels. Just Naci.

I KNOW!!! Maybe someone should start a go fund me page to fund the legal battle to fight this! :)

But really they must have a stated reason/ purpose / need to just drain a lake dry. There's like sand fleas that are dependant on this water, and any other thing one could imagine to be endangered.

So we had some big rain Saturday thriugh Sunday night (Rocky Butte had over 5") and since the ground is finally saturated from the previous storms, the lake rose over 6 feet in one day. There are also a lot of storms forecasted for the next couple weeks. There's a chance the lake may actually come up enough to be useable this summer.
