I talked to Bob @ Marine Industries West in his shop tour thread, and he said if we can get 5 people committed, he will do a special price on his billet side controls for $695.

We are talking about part numbers SC-1000 and SC-1001, which are for left and right hand mounting. You can choose the mounting base color to match your boat.

Unlike the Hardin billet controls this one will use most throttle cables, so you may not need to change your cable. I believe the Hardin uses only the 33C type cable.

Per Bob and MIW

"Our controls will work with 33C or Merc Gen 2 cables. But will not work with the earlier Merc KM type cable. If you have the early KM cables, they would need to be upgraded. By the time you get the (2) cables and the engine side connection kit, it will add about $140.00 to your project.

Anyone interested can email or call, [email protected] - 714-630-3905 and ill compile a list. Thanks"

I am in, do we have 4 more takers? Please post up if you are interested.

If these would replace my black plastic Merc one, I'm in.
That is exactly what they are designed to do. If i recall from another thread prior these are the direct replacement for the 2001 and newer Merc single hand controls. And the earlier ones you just had to change the cables.

I have an 02/03 Hallett 210 with the single style controller. Not sure the brand. Would this be gen I or gen II cables?

You might drop an email to Bob and see, he might be able to tell you.

I’ll buy.
Add it to the pile of parts I need to install..
Let me know how we get the order in.
Boat is ‘04 with 496 so should be direct replacement.

Thats a Teleflex/Seastar unit. It is a universal style controller that accepts almost all cables but they are most commonly rigged with 33c cables. They still make this controller today in just about every format imaginable albeit with a nicer looking updated facia.

As a mechanic, the new version of your controller is my favorite to install in anything I have to change a controller out in. I don't imagine why the MIW controller wouldn't be able to replace this unit provided the hole behind the flange isn't oversized for any reason

That makes 2 confirmed. We need 3 more and I can let Bob know and he will advise how to proceed.

If there is a cash discount I can collect and pay Bob if needed.

for anyone on the fence about this one, its a very nice upgrade. The controls look a million times better than those shitty faded black plastic units, and they also work nicely. It'll take a minute to get used to the control, but honestly one long weekend and you'll be a pro.

I have a 22ZX Donzi with a 496HO. It had the standard Merc single handle control with the interlock and I'd always overshoot F to R and R to F.
Never again with this....... Makes docking so much easier.

So I’m on the fence and have a question....are there any other functional differences between the Dana and Hardin unit other than the types of cables that can be used?

I see the Hardin for $600 “regular guy price” and the Dana group buy special at $700 regularly $800.

Anybody ever use/own both and if so any comparison thoughts?

Thanks!

I had a Hardin and really enjoyed it. The only problem I had was that the neutral safety switch was such a small tab that it was hard to find and feel. I spent so much time trying to find dead center neutral I ended up bypassing the switch. Cant speak to the Dana but hopefully they handle this better.

As i believe they are nearly identical, i would be curious if the online price is actually current.

The Dana unit has adjustable tension which is a nice feature. Functionally they are the same. I do also like the Dana lanyard switch setup a little better.

They both look good, I personally like the look of the Dana one a bit better, and if something ever happens to it, it is nice parts are local in So Cal.

These are worth the money! I have one BNIB waiting to install into my current boat. Last boat I installed this control and it makes you look/feel like a pro navigating at slow speeds around docks and through the channel.
