When I saw this thread yesterday I didn’t realize it was 3moths old. No doubt your return is impressive. Looks like you may have timed the bottom well. The other half and I are both work there.

I sold every last bit of it today at $152.25 which essentially tripled my investment on those shares in 2 1/2 weeks. I was happy about that until I saw that it's still going up in after hours trading. I hope I didn't get out too soon. It is crazy overvalued, something has to give here.

Dude, you left another $100/share on the table.. WTF?

TLRY,,, wow, thats the one that got away... I need a better crystal ball for Stock Picking

I owned SQ way back at $12,,, sold at $35ish... I was all proud of myself when I sold it...

dumb ass me..

It peaked at $92, currently at $85ish...

However, I still own
AMZN, got in around $775
NFLX, got in around $75
NVDA, got in at $95

overall I cant complain...
My problem, is I have a good stock, that I think has peaked, and will most likely drop, and there is stock out there that I think is about to pop... so I sell a decent stock, to get in on another stock.. Sometimes I look like a hero, and other times, I look like a zero...

Thats what the Stock Market is all about, if it was simple, then everyone one would be all over it.

Welcome students, the stock market trading lab project is currently in session. Be sure to wear goggles and seat belts. It can get dangerous::cool:

Investopedia:
A short squeeze refers to a jump in a stock's price, forcing a large number of short sellers to close their position, which in effect pushes the price even higher.

When an investor shorts a stock, he borrows shares from another account and sells them, agreeing to replace the stock at a later date. Short sellers predict the price will go down, enabling them to buy the shares at a lower price.

When the share price starts to rise, many of these same investors will decide to buy the stock before their losses escalate further. This flood of buy orders causes the price to climb even more.

Contrarian investors will sometimes try to cash in on this phenomenon by taking a long position on heavily shorted stocks – that is, buying them with the hope that they’ll appreciate.

Going against the crowd like this is typically a high-risk, high-reward proposition. Even so, some feel it’s safer to bet on a stock rising than on one falling, where the potential losses are limitless.

A little research on TLRY:

As of 8/15/2018:
Short Interest Shares:1,776,903
Avg. Daily Share Volume: 1,546,334

As of 8/31/2018:
Short Interest Shares: 3,499,750
Avg. Daily Share Volume: 8,398,853

Two weeks!
97% increase in short positions
440%+ increase in trading volume

Total Shares Outstanding 76.48M
  • Public Float 17.81M
That's nearly 25% of trading shares short.

It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt, which usually happens differently than expected.

Mr. Market has an amazing way of stripping $ from the overconfident (either direction). He doesn't care what your basis is, how you're related to the CEO or how long you have owned it. The numbers have zero emotion, that's why we react with so much.

BTW, kicking yourself for "missing" this one is like being upset you went to the 7-eleven a week early after a jackpot hit the next week. Just enjoy your Slurpee. This isn't investing, it's speculating or better said, playing a game. Not a bad thing, just not something anyone can legitimately claim to know what or how it is going to occur. When it works, its exhilarating. When it clobbers you, the emotion (anger, regret, etc.) is 2x the joy.

BTW, if you are still long this or similar stocks, now is probably a good time to Google search: "trailing stop limit order".

Haha, which is another way to find yourself frustrated, because you will feel like it stopped you out at the bottom price....at least for that day.

See how this works?

Seriously WTF...
There was alot $$ Made, and alot $$$ lost today.

In my experience, stocks that go Parabolic, typically go down the way they went up...

TLRY will probably open minus $45... and drop back to $130 arena over the next couple of days..

But I am not risking my $$$ on that analysis.. Sit back watch the show...

That was one hell of a show today.. wow.

Just fyi, but in sure you guys know if your trading weed stocks.
Oklahoma passed a medical weed bill a couple months ago. It was wrote very poorly so it is basically a recreational weed bill. Anyways, it isn't like most laws and takes a year plus to go into effect, this one is probably just weeks away from going into effect.
Supposedly our economy is fixing to be booming and OKC is expected to have a population of 3mil within 5 years.....supposedly from all this. I guess we'll see, but im sure this will help some of the weed companies.

Visa.

Look at the 3, 6 mo - 1,2,3,5 year performance

I'm guessing it's about to split, or minimally increase the dividend.

Id pick a moderate to large gain and investment security over a few more points - but high volatility with a smaller player.

The credit card business is a license to print money.

Have you guys checked the spread sheet lately? The two I suggested (GWPH and AAPL) are doing fairly well. They're no CGC but still doing well. I'm happy.

Never played the stock market but it sounds fun. Want to put in $1,000 and see what happens. What’s the best online trading site - etrade, tdameritrade, merrill edge, ally, schwab, etc. - or does it matter?

I sit in front of a computer all day so it's easy for me.

NBEV & IGC are on fire today. I cashed out on both today. I'll wait for them to drop back down. Rumors are Coca Cola is looking to buy NBEV and they are showcasing their new line of CBD drinks in Las Vegas October 8-10. I'll buy back NBEV for sure. Hopefully lower than it is now. IGC popped as well because they are going into the CBD drink market as well but I think that's a pump & dump stock and it will fall back down hard.

I bought CVSI and LBUY today. Looking for them to pop soon.....hopefully.

I think being on the computer is worse. I sold with a 50% profit and think im checking even more now. Love to buy you a beer for the heads up on IGC. I guess i better get to reading. Any recommendations on where to start? Once the money is back in my account, ill check out those others.

Left a lot on the table if you cashed out on Fri, looks like it hit almost 9 that following Monday, but settled back down.

I'm going to follow NBEV, I think you might be onto something.

I've been in and out of NBEV. I had some shares this morning and sold them when it was in the high 8's. At the moment I don't hold any shares. They are supposed to unveil their line of CBD infused drinks on Monday at the Las Vegas show.

I am glad I got rid of IGC, that went from $14 down to $4 today like I thought it would.

I bought some shares of ACRX in anticipation of their ADCOM with the FDA this friday for their drug DSUVIA which got approved in Europe in June. It failed to get approved last year and I lost a lot of money on that bet. Looks like they have all their ducks in order this time. PDUFA date is November 3 and that's when the FDA decides if it will get approved or not. We'll see.

Big divergence in first week of Q4. Small caps, tech struggling with Dow/Blue-chips, financials holding up. Rates up scaring some money around.

Updated spreadsheet with some names mentioned and October results.

Thank you for doing this.

For the record, I suggested some options on the VIX, because you can not actually buy the "VIX", so I'll probably sell before the six months, and if I do, you can just put the result in cash and the result will be what it will be.

I realized this morning, at least for Mozilla browser, refreshing the browser doesn't update the prices. The list does automatically update itself every 5 minutes or so. Clicking the link in this thread will display a fresh update for the values.

Any new additions are welcome.

I'd like to close out my VIX position as of the closing price today 10/10 please.

Thank you.

Well today was a GREAT day for me despite the market being down. As I wrote above last week, I bought some shares of ACRX and then I added a whole lot more on Monday and Tuesday and it went up 35% today. This morning they released FDA notes and it looks like the FDA will approve the drug on November 3rd. However, this morning in the premarket session, the money makers managed to move the stock down to $1.50 based on some fake reporting. it crashed down 51% before it recovered within 30 minutes or so and then when the market opened it started going up all the way to $3.93 before settling at $3.60. I think it will top out somewhere in the $4-$5 range. This stock saved me today.

Good call. I sold half my long VIX at close today as I have it against a few longs. Outlier day. Will trade any snaps early tomorrow. I adjusted the sheet to reflect OUT price, but added duplicate to keep track till year-end.

We had a sell off in equity markets combined with a weak treasury market. No flight to "safety". Somewhat interesting.

I suspect one could hold the VIX and do a little better. But pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered. I don't like being the meal. :) :)

Bunt, sac fly and hit 'n run is strategy through end of year. Equities may finally be asked to pay the piper for debt-laden balance sheets. Debt service will be an issue for gov't, corp and individuals. Will likely be a ballast for rates moving too high. It would throw econ into paralysis. Often big VIX days are opps to cash in a bit and come back for next opportunity. Moves are rarely linear. Sky isn't falling.

GLD has no pulse. My commodity money is hiding in Oil.
