It’s an erosion barrier……. But we get manatees there too.

Currently on the back lawn of the White House. My buddy and I walked Joe and the First Lady out on stage tonight with a camera to join Elton John for a private concert in a tent. Pretty crazy night. Elton gave major props to George W Bush for helping him with his foundation which was pretty cool. Tons of Secret Service here as you can imagine. A very special night for me as I’ve always been a big Elton John fan.

Thanks for this post and great pics. I've often considered going there, but since I no longer scuba, I wasn't sure there'd be enough to do and see to warrant a vacation.
This pic of communing with the rays reminded me of an afternoon spent with Rays in the Bora Bora Lagoon.

Wife and I had been away from the hoard snorkeling, as we were returning to join the group, I noticed legs and feet dangling off the bow of the boat, pounding away vigorously up and down, thrashing the water. Imagine my surprise to see both feet pounding away on the back of a large Ray and the Ran just laying there seemingly enjoying it.
The Ray was well armed, you could see the large spike protruding from it's tail. I actually stood off, alerted my wife and we watched for a few moments, I was sure that Ray was going to bury that serrated spine deep into that idiots leg or foot, but didn't.

Anyway, I surfaced and advised the gentleman that that soft thing under his feet was a very large Ray and that probably wasn't something he should be doing --- at which point he finally looked down and damn near fell over jumping up in fright.
Ray swam away, wasn't sure if he was thanking me or pissed I'd spoiled his back massage.
I was amazed just how much they'd tolerate for a free lunch.

Except for the Secret Service for the POTUS I would say the event didn’t cost “us” anything. The History Channel put the concert on.

You would be correct. It sounds like that was a pretty flukey thing with Irwin coming down from above the ray and it protected itself in a defensive manor - I don’t know. But here, they are on the mellow side and happy to be fed squid if you have it.
