you guys have been out there on the road for 3 years? Whats the best advice to someone also doing this or thinking of doing this?
That’s a tough one as one size does not fit all. Each year we have focused on one area of the country. Normally summer months as we like to winter in warm weather Have found Florida is our favorite winter stay. One year we did the west coast all he way up into Vancouver BC.
as a full timer we bought a used membership in thousand trails which allows us to stay 21 days in a park and can travel park to park with no out time. We use thes parks to fill our calendar between travels so as to save money in the event we want to go to a specific park or place. when we started we would race from place to place thinking we had to be somewhere. Now life is a bit more leisurely on the road. We do rest stops and truck stops when traveling. Have stayed at an occasional Walmart when no other options exist. If when we are traveling and get tired of being on the road we will stop for a couple days to sort out and relax. I have found im done driving by dusk. We start looking for rest stops that will handle our rig. 40ft flat towing a wrangler so no backing in or out. Lol. Pull in, do dinner, watch a little tv and crash. Up in am have coffee pee the dog and hit the road.

I should add we use a mail forwarding service out of Florida. Registered our moho and Jeep in Florida and have Drivers license there as well. All have our mail service address. We do not have a physical address so moho in’s is a bit higher for the additional liability similar to a homeowners policy. There are three popular states for full timers. South Dakota, Texas and Florida. We chose Florida as there is no special drivers license endorsement req’d not annual inspection and no state income tax.

my domicile is Texas. I do have to do an inspection yearly ;(.

Will be staying thru next week and 4th July at another location right on the lake. Going to appreciate the small town USA celebrations.

staying currently at the southern start of the Appalachian Mountains. Tons of great mountain riding around here

Here is where I am currently. The lake is pretty nice and is called Lake Chatuge. Locals say its big but thats all relative. Lots of toons and smaller ski boats is what I see running around. I wish I still I had my Howard Bullet and could make a few passes. Lol

Hiawasse and Clayton are pretty cool little towns.

Rode my bike to the GA State Fairgrounds Saturday as they were having a British Bike Rally. Nortons, BSAs, etc. pretty cool old bikes there. Not my style but can appreciate it.

while there a local and I talked for about 30 minutes or so. Retired safety manager and ex navy. He told me where the best rides were and gave me his number to call if i needed anything while out here. He even told me his wife is an excellent cook and I have a standing invite to dinner. Nice people out here.

they also had a day long bluegrass concert deal going on for 25. to get in and lots of bands. I didnt stick around for it but I am sure it was a good time.

That's what I was thinking. Thought it odd all the homes build on top of the docks. Curious, I checked out the aerial images and there's some damn large homes tucked into the trees just up the path from those boathouses. 👍

My best buddy (RIP) was living in Georgia, loved the place. He really liked Lake Hartwell and Kiowee ( I think it is) but that lake you're staying at looks really interesting with so many islands and coves. His widow is living in Toccoa which is I believe up in that general area, but closer to Lake Hartwell.

…Asked her which road leads to Georgia she and some guy sort of pointed in a direction…got in my truck took off probably made it about 3 miles…when I woke up in the morning I had no idea where I was…😳

Got screwed over in GA for an RV spot thru the 4th. Options were very limited and I did not want to have to move everyday.

so I got lucky to find a spot in this area for a week. 100 miles to Memphis and 100 miles to Nashville.

Had an older Cuban lady and here British husband stay next to me. He was wheel chair bound and could hear not a damn thing. I helped the wife unhook their tow vehicle and a couple of other things. As we talked she made sure i knew they were both proud americans after migrating. Her father was a political prisoner in Cuba and somehow her dad and family were able to escape to Miami when she was 13. She can not believe what is happening in the USA and will die to keep her freedoms. They are tired of South FL and love TN. Gives me hope

Took a road trip earlier today to this place in Jackson TN about 30 minutes away. Ended up spending about 100. On shiznit. Good alcohol here. They insisted I bring roxy in with me. She was a hit with the other customers and loved the coolness of the polished cement floors as I tasted away. 4 free tastings ;). If you ever are thru the area stop on by. Nice friendly peeps with great alcohol to purchase.

oh….5. Drinks are also served and they are strong as fuck.

All American 4th July dinner. Nueske’s cheddar brats with Tony Packos pickles and peppers relish along with potato salad washed down with BLs. Watching Route 66 on the tube.

let freedom ring mofos! Thats Americana right there and never forget.

Thanks to LuckyStrike on turning me on to Tony Packos. I am almost out….lol

I did 2 round trips from the Bay Area to TylerTX area in the past 2 months. My cousin lives in Havasu, and my sister lives in Frisco TX.

Learned a lot traveling the I40. Lived in Austin for 2 years in 90-92. I figure I’m done with that Berkeley crap. Love the road travels.

Dad drove tankers for Shell Oil for 50 years. I inherited the ability.. can’t wait to retire and just stop wherever for how long for the hell of it.

Wife 110% onboard..

Glad this moron next to me left this morning finally.....self absorbed with no consideration of others. About 5'3 or so, 250lbs, ponytail, glasses, clothes all oversized, etc. Said he was about 65 and made lots of money as a field technician. Said he is making bank now in a desk job for the same company as they need him badly.

So when he pulls in next to me he has a Momentum G Series which is a trailer and not a 5th wheel. He unloads a trike of some type with a trailer for it. I initiate small talk.....ask if he is going to Sturgis, that he has a nice trailer, etc. He says not going to Sturgis and begins to talk about nothing but himself. I bring up a few things as well and you can tell he could give a shit about my story. OK, whatever.

You can hear him and his wife in the trailer talking. A few times she was yelling at him.....shit like that. OK, whatever.

So last night around 11-12 timeframe he gets back with his truck as they were gone all day. He starts packing up to leave this AM. Making all sorts of noise, banging storage doors, etc. I was up watching a movie but I don't like hearing shit going on right outside my trailer so I go outside and ask whats up. Tells me he is packing because they are leaving in the AM. He has his motorcycle trailer right next to my truck and is trying to get it in the back of his pickup. No way that was happening due to leverage. I did tell him I can't be lifting up your trailer as I just had a knee replacement. Told him to back it up to the culvert across the street and it will drop the tailgate and we should be able to get it in there. I asked why he doesn't just put it in the trailer and he said it won't fit. Keep in mind thats where it was when he came in. OK, whatever

So we pull his trailer over to the other side of the culvert and he then starts to back up. Its a gravel road and he keeps spinning and his rear tires dig a hole. I was like "Pull forward and turn right....then back up again in 4WD slowly..." He does and backs up with no issue into the culvert. The truck dropped in nicely and we were able to basically roll the trailer up into the bed. He pulls out of the culvert and parks. Job done.....no fucking thanks at all. I go back in as he continues to bang around outside "prepping" to leave in the AM. OK, whatever

So this AM.....I have been up for hours while he sleeps. When he finally gets up he starts doing more prepping for the hook up and drive away. I have my door open as its a nice cool morning and Roxy and I are enjoying the fresh air. This douchebag fires up his truck and backs up to hook up the trailer. He leaves the fucking truck running for at least 15-20 minutes while spewing all the gas fumes directly at us which makes its way into my front door. He is just walking around checking things etc. while the truck is running.

As he left he went out the one way entrance street.

Later douchebag.....you are a dumbass that cares about nobody but yourself.

Takes all types but this is why I would prefer off the grid stuff vs an RV park. Everybody till this guy has been great though.

…Exactly why on my cross country excursions I have always found an orchard to sleep in or some side of the road industrial area …anywhere where I didn’t have to deal with people like that…truckstops may be the worst with diesel generators running all night…Never did it with the rig the size of yours…
….Woke up one morning in Southern Illinois with a cow for a next-door neighbor and a sheriff knocking on my camper asking me why I was parked there …why was I not down at the truckstop a half mile back down the road …not sure he got it about diesel generators running all night???… we had a few laughs ..:he pointed me to the best restaurant for breakfast and we were both on our way…
