So did anyone take advantage of the Lifetime Powertrain Warranty for the Ram Truck back in 2007/2008? If so, how did that work out for you? If I needed a new truck at the time I would have loved to pick one up since I keep my shit forever.
I bought my 2007 Mega 1500 Hemi under that promotion. I THINK it says you have to be the original purchaser. I KNOW it says you have to have your major services done through Mopar. I was TOLD that they aren't that picky on smaller stuff like oil changes.
I am at 192,000 and have had the dealer change axle, diff, tranny, fluids as the mfg. is very picky about using the recommended ones, and honestly it wasn't that expensive. Trans pan dropped twice and the say nothing else needed at this time. Also they replaced 2 leaking axle seals, and rear driveshaft seal because they were starting to weep for free.
I knew when I bought the truck I would have it for 20 yrs. Likely will go 300,000 in that time, but I don't tow often. We shall see how things go if I ever have to call them on it. This will be my 4th Ram to go over 230,000 with zero engine or trans issues.

I was talking to a buddy that sells Chevy's this am.. He said GM has been shut down for a month and will be for another month.. The dealerships are low on inventory and not really discounting?

I'm wondering if there will be heavy discounts in the future or not now?

RD

Depends on the brand and model, but that’s certainly true for some hot sellers like trucks.

SAAR is the metric used for tracking sales pace.
We were tracking at about 17 million units prior to the virus...and for the year, about 17-ish million cars were projected to be sold.

Now look at the below graph.

FD434AA5-FABB-4A63-8C87-EE786D0A8652.png

SAAR for March is way down, to 11-ish million units.
And with the quarantine extending, SAAR for April is projected to be a historically low of 6-7 million units, which is below what this graph can even show.

While the virus situation is somewhat unique, because both producers and consumers hit pause...those lost sales, and their associated profits, have to be made up somewhere.

And I guarantee you that, just like how automakers were among the last industries to close, they’ll also be one of the first to fire the factories back up again.

The deals will be coming, better for some models than others.
And there’s gonna be a slew of “we beat the virus” advertising upcoming.

It’s the non stop debate....
I have a new f150. It’s great except the sun roof noises. Dealer has tried to get it quiet

I have a new Chevy work truck. The basic one. It’s meh. Very odd transmission shifts. I had the dash apart searching for a rattle
It drives nice one freeway, very smooth.
but it’s not better than the rest. MPG is 17 city and highway. I drive very mellow in it.

ram is nice, but it would be 2nd choice for me. Ford, ram, tundra, Chevy.

As somebody else posted - I verified today that the $4500 factory rebate isn’t available with the 0% deal. That makes the deal nothin special....
I’ll wait and revisit in May

The 0% and deep discounts on new Ram 1500’s are getting difficult to pass up, even for a die hard Chevy guy. Lariat trim crew cab with leather and tow package for 35k. That same money gets you a base cloth Silverado custom, and I don’t think it could even get you into an F150 save for an STX base V6 model.

Anyone here have a 19-20 Ram 1500 Hemi? How’s it treated ya?

I have a 2019 1500 Laramie, I’ve had it since September. My last Ram was a 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie.

The 2019 rides a little better and is quieter than the 14 was. The power difference is also noticeable. The gas mileage suffers a little from the 14 to the 19. I average around 12mpg city in my 19. My 14 got closer to 14 city.

I opted for the smaller screen Uconnect system. The giant screen was obnoxious and overwhelming IMO. In addition to a backup camera the 19 is covered in sensors. I like the sensors but they can be finicky at times, especially in parking lots.

Prior to buying this Ram I was in a 2016 Escalade. This truck drives just as nice as the Escalade and the interior is almost as nice as the Escalades.

Prior to buying this Ram I test drove a Silverado, F150 and Tundra. The Ram was the best overall value IMO and the best looking of all the trucks. It was a close toss up between the F150 and the Ram but the giant clunky shifter in the middle of the two front seats was the deal breaker for me in the F150.

I got my Ram pretty heavily discounted. It stickered out close to $60K. I paid a hair over $40K for it.

If I had to do it all over again I would have bought two of them. My wife now drives the truck more than I do.

It was a deal on a 2 Door Rubi...Punk'n Orange/Tan Leather.... hold over 2018 brand new...so they discounted heavily. It was exactly what I wanted. I have not seen Gladiators priced that heavily. Also, I cannot imagine the JLRU Diesel or the Gladiator Diesel when released will be discounted as heavily.. I think a Gladiator Rubi diesel would be a nice truck on 37's....stock they just look odd.

On deals...San Leandro still has a black rubi 2018 hold over...it is listed for 52,445... and on their site it shows 52,445 not sure if their site is jacked....but here is the picture/price when I was looking at it 41K......I went with the Orange one at the other dealership.,,,...but this black one is pretty loaded ...sure you can it for that lower price.

remember the diesel in a 1500 is jusy $3,500 over a HEMI. They just lowered the price on 4 , 4X4, DIESEL $38,600 with rebate! This is a lot of truck for the $$

You can get new loans for just over 2% now.

Not sure why anyone would want the diesel over the Hemi.
Ask Walt how his diesel worked out.
it’s only advantage is fuel mileage.

Supposedly it’s a next-gen engine and the bugs have been worked out.

Supposedly...

I dunno why folks would think a diesel Fiat engine would be reliable at any rate.

I you don't mind me asking, what are you running for gears? I have 3500 CCDRW with 4:10's and the Aisin, 14k miles and I get 13-15 mpg.
You’re right there with my 05 5.9C
14.7avg by the math not the lie-o-meter.
A little less with more city driving, a little more with more hwy miles.
Same gearing but older trans though .

The problem now is LACK of inventory, deals were made, huge rebates, people purchased trucks, now plants are closed. NO inventory until June1st at least. Think of this, just 2,700 C8 Corvettes were built, now all stopped.

Dealers up here(Boise) are sitting on full lots of trucks, and many have offsite storage lots that are full as well.

Sounds like particular models.

Overall, the industry is sitting on massive inventory with very few buyers.

Good article here.
Carmakers begging dealers to take their allotments.

According to Cox Automotive and Edmunds data, U.S. inventory levels were down at the beginning of April from where they stood a year ago, at 3.74 million — or about 33,000 fewer new vehicles. However, because of the industry's suddenly anemic March selling rate, the days'-supply measurement shot up at least 30 percent for most brands over the previous month.

Plea to load up now

Some are suggesting dealers may need to keep at least one eye focused a little farther down the road.

"Please, do not turn down your allocations," Ed Sheehy, president of Southeast Toyota Distributors, told dealers in a monthly video message at the end of March. "I implore you to accept everything you have earned, because the day will come in the not-too-distant future when you will want every one of these vehicles, and more." He said Toyota's suspended production had "effectively eased most of the short-term inventory pressure that we will feel."

Sheehy encouraged dealers to load up now, even telling them to rent an extra storage lot if necessary. "Do not let shortsighted manipulation of your pipeline completely kill your chance to participate fully in the rebound.," he said. "Any pain you feel by taking more than your normal time strategy tells you to take will be very short-lived. And at current production, we will still be hard-pressed to fuel the demand that is coming on the back side of this thing."

Asking dealers facing a crisis time to load up on inventory isn't new. Jim Press, former Chrysler president, pleaded with dealers to do something similar to keep factories working — and cash flowing — just two months before the automaker declared bankruptcy in 2009.

Funny that this came up again... looking to get the wife a new car and reached out to a dealer in AZ that was posted somewhere about them making really good deals on Dodge products so I reached out. The first reply from their internet sales guy was full MSRP plus TTL...WTF?? I laughed and responded with “take a walk outside and look left and right and let me know how many people are lined up to pay full price.” Second offer was full MSRP with the nation wide discount of 3500.00. I’m not responding at this point. What a joke. Was bringing 12k down as well but apparently they don’t need to sell cars that bad.

Seems kinda hard to tell independently owned dealers to not sell any cars which can help them make money as well as lower the amount of cars they have to pay for each month. Let alone adding extra costs of renting additional storage for cars to just sit...seems great but I doubt dealers are happy they haven’t been selling calls for at least 4 weeks now

Crazy right?? I didn’t even get that far and they are not budging. Apparently they are good with eating millions in inventory. All I wanted was a Durango to replace the one I already have. 🤷🏻‍♂️

The only good offers I’ve heard people get are coming from Chevrolet and GMC. Fortunately for me those are the two brands I’m looking at but don’t know anyone personally to deal with been referred to...

I'm waiting for that 2008 "employee pricing" type deal. Things were 15k'ish off MSRP back then.... meaning in today's dollars, that would need to be around 20-25k off msrp.

Haha I’m waiting for the same, luckily I don’t want a white or black truck so lots of inventory out there and not popular

Right now in my opinion is a great time to buy. I just got this 2020 Silverado 2500hd for 54k before tax. It’s a LTZ with leather and great options. There was a higher model with sunroof and heated back seats but I didn’t need that since I rarely use this truck except to tow. If you want a easy to deal with salesman that I’ve used for years now contact Cameron at el Centro Chevrolet / Cadillac

Both Ford and GM will be out of cash by 3Q if things don’t pick up in a hurry.

The deals are good now, and may get even better to kick-start sales.

But the new Chevy HD’s are so butt-ugly.

My daily is a 19’ and I hate the damn thing.

The body styling is hideous, the trans flair is random and often and the dealer says nothing is wrong, and the seats/interior is terrible.

I’m close to getting rid of it because every time I look at it I’m disappointed. I have no idea what Chevy was thinking but no way this styling is a selling trucks.

my daily is a 19’ also and I absolutely luv it !! It drives Like a car, I wasnt that hip on the looks when it first dropped but it definitely has grown on me. I upgraded from a 2015 and to me it feels real similar but has some new features. You put 10 people in a truck and you will probably get 10 different opinions lol
