So, you’re telling me that when people engage in political discussions and change someone’s mind as to how they vote every 2 years, it doesn’t make a difference?

I’d like the name of a single person who you or anyone else has changed from a dem to a rep.. if the sales tactic is attacking them I’d say heartily the number is zero

Yeah I spent over a year working on that and it wasn’t done by insulting him
I like to think I played a part in his awakening.
But once the misguided are beyond a certain age, they are also beyond any form of enlightenment.
Being a “nice guy” does not mitigate the damage done by one’s actions.
Sometimes, insults are all that is left…if one chooses to engage.

I like to think that I helped the guy who built your house see the light. I think there’s a lot of guys like him that don’t really pay that much attention and don’t really know what side of the fence they’re standing on.

At risk of being perceived as a positive person (I'm mostly not) I would like to pose a question to perhaps get this topic back on track:

What are the best strategies to mitigate the risk of inflation? We've touched on many in seven pages.

Best Value:
Dining out
Grocery shopping
Oil change
Tire replacement
Fuel
Home Owners/Car insurance
Etc.

Make more money, then none of that stuff really matters.

Spending less, is the faster way to impact a balance sheet. I'm actually thinking about starting another business, so I can pay less tax, not earn more money. I already work too many hours each day at my W2. Promotions are not happening, so my options are limited when it comes to earning more. I'm not good at swing trading, but I'm trying.

I'm retired and have a pretty good stash, but I've always been frugal. Not cheap, there is a difference. I'll shop around for all of this stuff to get the best deal, use coupons, eat mostly at home, and I don't buy stuff unless I need it and it's a good value. Less junk sitting around is actually liberating. Also do all the maintenance on house, car, boats. I don't need to spend 10k on a vacation or 300 on a dinner when I can get just as much enjoyment from a half or a third of that. Im lucky my lady is the same way.

Ditching my W2 job was the best decision (forced fallback? lol) I ever made in life. I kick myself for not having done it earlier. I'm not getting rich by any means, but I'm not stressed about $$ 24/7 like I was for the last 20 years.

I went the other way. I was self employed most my adult life, took an interesting job for a company I was a contractor for. It's been nice not having to worry about cash flow, payroll, taxes and insurance. AR, AP etc etc. I can focus on what I'm good at (and like) and not chase my receivables.

We got a little lazy about managing our tax burden with the Trump standard deductions improvements. I'm thinking I need to revisit that now that a dollar does not go as far. The most impactful thing I can see to offset inflation is to start a business and jump back into focus on leveraging the tax code. I can pay an accountant just the same as I pay the government. That will be on my 2025 to do list if the election goes the wrong way.

Owning real estate with a fixed 3% mortgage is the best way to fight inflation. Second would be being self-employed and passing all the cost increases on to your customers so your income keeps pace with rising inflation.

One hidden cost of inflation is buried in the tax code, there is a lot of stuff not indexed for inflation and it effectively drives up your tax rate.

It should be on your 2025 to do list regardless as to which way the election goes.

And I agree with you....I'd much rather put money in my accountant's pocket than the governments pocket....assuming I'm gonna lose it anyway. At least my accountant has a boat

I’ve always believed only I don’t life. The first thing you need to know is the IRS tax code that way you know all the way to circumvent it and put it to your advantage to gain personal wealth.. might not always get there. It takes many years and a lot of risks, but knowing they IRS tax code and the loop holes, it is very important.

Having some sort of a legitimate business, not a hobby even if it’s on the side is a good thing to some of the write-offs and depreciation ,you can purchased important items as opposed to the personal side without writeoffs. As oppose to a short form return which is very limited. . It’s a long road. I made it like a lot of others on here, but I’m still on the phone or email if not, and our business seven days a week.

Is that with or without the tip?? lol

You spelt blowjob wrong.

Speaking of BJ's... lol I took a gal to Lazy Dog for lunch last week.. She ended up giving me the greatest hummer in my truck afterwards. That lunch cost me like $45 bucks.. The date was the deal of the Century. So there are deals out there.. Jumping in the shower now, gonna head down to my local Lazy Dog and do some trolling. 👍

I saw this timely article on Apple News this morning from Fast Company. There is likely a paywall, but for those who have access :

Menu price increases at McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and other chains are sparking consumer revolt

BY CHRISTOPHER ZARA photograph by Scott Semler numbers by ana duje EARLIER THIS YEAR, ALLEN Watson stopped treating himself to his favorite McDonald’s meal: the biscuits-and-gravy combo with a sausage patty and Diet Coke. A startup cofounder from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, he says the $11 he spent on the meal one January day finally shocked him into abstinence. “That’s crazy to me, because the sit-down restaurants around here are almost the same price,” Watson says.

I get a Mickey D's 2 cheeseburger combo craving a couple times a year. Stopped in Barstow Sunday night and shrinkflation was in full effect, the burgers were much smaller now.

I read an article the other day that talked about these chains shrinking their portions which is not necessarily a bad thing for this obese country, but as always, the poor get hit with the screws.

When I know that I am going to be Captaining a boat ALL DAY, I buy McDonalds.

The reason is because it has so many preservatives. I know that even if I eat it cold, I won’t get food poisoning. Just obesity. Lol

I order 4 double cheese burgers, and eat them throughout the day.

I know this is slightly off subject. But eating is one of my hobbies. I heard the name McDonalds, and reacted like Regor to a conspiracy! Lol
