The snowbirds leave today. April 1st is usually when I head to Havasu, drop the boat off for service and get the house ready. Not happening this year for a while.

While I can make sure to wear gloves, sanitize, avoid the markets and social distance, it’s not sending the right message in my opinion. Our boating friends sent the text about the channel closing and they were thinking they would head out to Havasu and asked if we were all going. I said no because I take care of my grandma and if she gets it, and passes because I wanted to have some fun, I would struggle with forever. The problem with people from other states coming to boat may not be them because they are following the safety and social distancing aspect, but it’s when everyone catches on that you can escape to Havasu. It will be a holiday weekend every weekend and not everyone is going to follow those protocols which puts you at risk as well as the locals who don’t have the proper amenities to survive this. Once people start drinking after boating all day, they will forget to wash their hands and touch everything at the gas station, or grocery store. Or they won’t follow the rules anyways. They will allow their best friend to come on the trip because they trust they aren’t sick. Multiple people coming to Havasu will have this virus and it will spread.

I’m not here to bash anyone on here coming to Havasu because I think everyone has the best intentions for their families and honestly will practice the guidelines and be safe, it’s the other people that will follow once they see everyone is boating that will cause the spread. I honestly think the lakes will be filled with people escaping the nightmare we are in and Arizona will have to shut down the ramps. Think of the how busy the ramps will be. Everyone who touches the cleats to tie up will then pass on their germs, etc.

Just my two cents. Everyone be safe and wash your hands. Hopefully boating season comes sooner then later. I miss it a lot.

I was considering 3 full days isolated in my express cruiser. I would just launch out of Havasu springs and anchor several hundred feet away from any shoreline for 3 days. I have a generator, AC, kitchen and bathroom and 100 gallons of fuel... Maybe fly a diver down flag and set my BCD and a tank on the swim step to be legit and go check out a few spots. That should keep me distanced. Zero internet, phone or pictures as to not be "that guy"... I am on the fence still as to the right decision.

That is crazy....I get out each day and do a bike ride down the coast. Two days in a row last week I saw cruise ships leaving Long Beach....I was thinking WTF are they still cruising for...seems like the worst environment for virus's to spread.

Packed and I saw several posts about them practicing social distancing with a crowd in the background of there selfies. Now every one at Foxs that weekend has been exposed. They would not shut down Glamis or any launch ramps but reality is people just don't give a fuck. Sad. Not everyone on the lake or Glamis as some are doing it right. But when every other post is someone bragging about social distancing and are in a big group of crowd what should officials do?

My dad will be 86 this week. He is also a widower. Two days ago he went to Home Depot to buy parts for his drip irrigation system.

I mailed him a few of the N95 masks I found in my garage cabinets on Sunday. He's been wearing a construction dust mask, which might be better than nothing, but just barely.

If he contracts the virus, the odds of him dying are overwhelming. But he's invincible. Two weeks ago he climbed out a second story window with a five gallon bucket of Magic Fix Everything to repair a leak around the scupper on his flat roof.

He just ignores my entreaties to stop doing shit like that.

We get up to 50-100k deaths and people know someone or a family member that has lost there life they will take it serious and wish they did what was asked of them. Just checked the Bureau of Reclamation. The lake is currently 445.9 and should be about the same for a couple days and back to 447' by 4-4 2020 and back to 448' two weeks out, no mention of anything lower than 446'.

Dave, we honestly thought about heading out this weekend to boat but decided against it. We also had the opportunity to have our daughter come up from Phoenix and decided against that as well. As i sit here and type this i also wonder if it’s the last time i could have seen her. The issue is, if you are concerned with caring for a high risk family member , you need to also be thinking about keeping yourself (caregiver) safe
Imagine if you did your ankle injury during this time and you ended up in a hospital/ higher chance of exposure?
Could you do that getting food for said person? Yes, but I’d wager much less of a chance.
And what about if you need assistance on the water? Is putting more people on the water and potentially tying up first responder resources really the most prudent thing we as a society should be doing right now?

I see your point but not everyone is in that situation. It's certainly economically devastating for some families whose income comes from industries effected by the shutdown, but not all will be effected and some folks not at all.
