I read through this whole post and did not see a reference to the brand of the product or a link etc...? How much it cost would be good also. Anyone in Phoenix Metro on RDP deal in these products?

Shit... I might have to buy a new pressure washer on this deal as well?

RD

Or just a new hose if it looks bad inside. Get some vinegar from your wife and fill the washer with it and let it soak for a day or two.

I'm not sure why the wall would be getting wet with this setup? It will be hooked to a short 10' Hose that's connected to the pressure washer that will be sitting outside the garage when in use. Or are you saying a potential spray from the connection to the hose?

RD
I'm not doubting your ability to hook up a hose, it's just my 35 years doing construction that anywhere in an interior space that there is a water outlet there is usually a section of FRP. If for some reason the sweated joints happen to spring a pinhole leak (it happens) or one of the cartridges leaks (ask anyone who has had an ice maker filter leak), this way you're covered. It's cheap insurance especially that the spigot it right there.

So last night I tested the water quality And the total dissolved solids tested at two. I hooked it up to the pressure washer and ran it through the pressure washer and it tested at three. For comparison my reverse osmosis system for drinking water in my garage tested at 63

I put quick disconnects on the fittings so they just pop on and off

That does not look nearly robust enough. It needs bigger casters at the very least...

I'm in for one of these (same area as you).

I am a little concerned that only one company is making these things - somewhat surprised about it as most water-related products have tons of competition.

Also, I wonder about the "conversion kit" as it looks like a piece of PVC pipe with a strainer/filter on the end to keep from sucking in resin. If it's that simple that's the way to start using one of these products. I figure the internal cartridges are a money-making proposition. If you can simply dump resin into both of the blue housings that's the way to go but does it work right? So many questions so few answers

Thanks Dave for doing this and being "our guinea pig"

Dave, are you getting your replacement resin from PB&J water? My CR spotless system uses the same size “cartridge”.... I am a resin club member and my replacements are about $90 shipped to the house with a return label.

CR spotless is in El Cajon, Ca. I just bought a Chucky system for the wife’s new car it was $400 bucks and will do about 400 gallons of not really hard water, then I had to go get a new pressure washer.... and then .... don’t for about the leaf blower to blow off the water beads....

Happy wife = happy life !

I was thinking about doing something like that off the soft water line for the Hava house, I need a hard water tester gauge to see where I’m at

Honestly I haven’t gotten that far yet but I’m sure Jeff a PB&J can get us resin if needed. I’m still in the crawl stages not the walk stages

Well the results are in!

Tried out my little Carwash system tonight. Hooked my outside hose up to a long brush handle and threw some soap on it.. Quickly scrubbed the outside of the Hallett and turned that off. Turned on the hardwater to the pressure washer and blew all the soap off the boat, then flipped it to DI water.. gave it another 60 seconds or so getting all the hard water out of the lines and did a final rinse.. Grabbed an old towel and just quickly dried it off. Note I can’t reach the deck of the Hallett so I just kind of slapped the towel up there a few times and left a bunch of water on it.

Ten / Fifteen minutes later most the water was dry on the boat.

No water spots and I spent maybe 15 minutes on the whole program! (Including the soap part)

Next up was my Ranger.. I had to blow some dirt off of it and it was really water spotted from getting rained on awhile back.

Flipped the valves to hard water, pressure washed it for five minutes, flipped the valves again for DI water and pressure washed all the water off it for a few minutes. Drove it up and down the street to get most the water off, spent a couple of minutes with the soaked towel I used for the Hallett and looks like it just got detailed..

Looks good and nice to see some real world results. Still considering getting one of these systems for the house even though most of the time we use Optimum No Rinse (ONR) to wash the vehicles.

Basically a wash without rinsing the vehicle after.

https://optimumcarcare.com/product/optimum-no-rinse-wash-shine1

Before No Rinse Wash & Shine (ONR), there was no choice other than to use regular car wash shampoos that impact on water restrictions, and in many areas these shampoos are simply no longer allowed. No more! Optimum offer the only alternative product that cleans AND protects your vehicle and protects the environment too. It will reduce the water usage to a fraction of a conventional car wash. No Rinse Wash & Shine is the most technologically advanced car wash system to date, that requires just a single bucket of water to wash an entire car. Optimum No Rinse & Shine (as the name suggests) does not require rinsing with a hose since there are no soapy surfactants to wash off into the storm drains.

This unique product contains substantive polymers that bond to the paint and protect it from abrasion during the wash. These polymers offer greater protection and lubrication than conventional car washes and leave a slick and glossy finish behind afterwards. The waste water in the bucket can be used to water the lawn or disposed of into a sink, where it will be treated. Other additional benefits of No Rinse Wash & Shine are faster washes, the ability to wash anywhere at anytime including washing inside the garage during winter, no messy runoffs, and a better looking finish. These are just some of the reasons No Rinse Wash & Shine is being used by many people across the world, saving millions of litres of water every year.

I have a working model with my DI machine and a foam gun attached. My guys at the shop had to get a few pieces to retrofit my machine to be able to quick change between soap and different spray patterns. The electric model feeds and can power the soap gun. I will be testing at my house in LHC in a couple of weeks.

RD - the soap I use is made with DI water as well. I guess once you start using it I would not spray hard water on anything. At this point I am washing outside as well so I would not want to risk anything drying and spotting. I have seen Bullyhead Bullies setup the bottles he uses are smaller - I do not know if he has converted to resin. Like clock work my set of bottles kicked yesterday - fall is here. :D

Are you going to do that conversion kit and see how long it lasts?

I need to show you my setup. The bottles are 4x the ones in this thread. They are resin and leased so I will stick with my program. Today at my shop I tested our retrofit foam gun. It was awesome. When I get out there in a couple weeks I will post a video.

RD’s write up got me going on this and I washed my black truck and black car over the weekend with dumping gallon jugs of distilled water for final rinse, totally amazed and I NEED one of these deionizing systems. I’m in UT and thinking the On The Go resin system looks good with the simple resin refills, and looks like you get more per refill than the CR systems with changing cartridges. Anybody have experience with these?

I’ve got a single canister that I rent and keep at the boat slip for washes. Pay 20 a month and it’s 50 or 60 to swap it. I have a TDS tester that I use to determine when it needs to be swapped. I use it almost weekly and do the entire wash on a 30’ sport fish (not just the final rinse). Current bottle was swapped in April and just this weekend it jumped to 5ppm TDS vs 230ppm in the City water on the dock. Pretty damn good deal if you ask me. Haven’t dried the boat in months...

Now that the Boats clean you can use a heat gun to get that awful sticker thingy off the side of the Boat :D

I like my sticker! :D

So I just washed my truck.. I’m all in about 15 minutes. Didn’t get all the bugs completely off the windshield yet.. but I just soaped it with a wash mit real quick and pressure washed it with DI water.. dried with one beach towel (half ass). Not one microfiber was used and the windows and everything else is perfect! I should have done this years ago!

Good enough for a quick rinse! I’ll detail it later

Thanks for the feedback! I’m really leaning toward this system since it sounds like the resin last longer.

I’ve been using this for about two months now. Should have done this years ago.

Wow, for those with Fireman’s budget!

That's a nice looking system with seemingly top shelf components. I'm not sure about the quality of the pump there but every thing else looks pretty high end.
Or for the DIY guy (or a lo-budget dick like me.. lol) a excellent tutorial and detailed example of how to build your own system for prolly half or less especially if you can do some simple fab work, plumbing etc. I bet a (dare I say) horrible freight or maybe a Ryobi pressure pump similar to what's employed in that system could be used for fraction of the cost.....half or less.
I do like the portability and multi functional benefits of the individual components with the D.I. cart type and portable pressure washer arrangement.

Great write up RD, thanks for puttin this out there.

I made a few improvements to my set up. It’s nice for the daily drivers, but It really pays off for the motor home and enclosed

I have been researching a DI system for the last few weeks. At first I was looking at CR Spotless then the Simple Chuck, but then I found Puretec Industrial Water. They rent out DI tanks rated for 700-1000 gallons DI water for $15 a month. They require a $250 deposit and in the Murrieta area it is $65 for an exchange plus $15 for delivery.

I figure at 10 gallons per wash (high ballin as I'm only gonna use it to rinse) I will get 70-100 truck washes out of it. To get started Puretec will charge me $187 plus the $250 deposit, but that includes a TDS meter.

I talked to the detail guy my dad uses, and he uses Puretec and said it's a great system, although he pays more since he's a detail shop.

For you Havasu guys, they have a location in Gilbert that services all of AZ.

I’d have to write it all out but for that kind of money why not just buy one?

Scarab is selling his for 250.00. It won’t get that many gallons out of it, but you will own it?

Purchased a used water softener for $50. Emptied out the resin and replaced it with Virgin DI Resin ($180). Installed some plumbing and digital meter ($30) and I have a system that works great (600 ps/m in and 0 ps/m going out) and should last me a couple years of washes.
