So who's the go-to to get a boat capped these days? Need the transom cleaned up also from the outboard brackets/controls and a few holes filled. Had a place to send it but doesn't look like that will work out. Not sure if Shoemaker is still doing it, he capped my Sprint and did a good job.

Lots of talent already mentioned above. You really can't wrong with any of them. 👍

Reached out to Pedro at Saleen, and just talked to Shoemaker. Haven't talked to Greg in probably 7-8 years and he remembered me, or my Sprint anyway lol. Pedro is super nice but definitely on the higher end of pricing. I'll see where Greg comes in and go from there

Does @Hammer here do glass & gel work?
I thought somebody here does with quality results from the pix shared here previously.

That is RSS Gel Works and Steve. They do nice work. Heard they are pretty far out on project start dates but well worth a call or email to them.

^^^^ This, I'm not really affiliated anymore. But I can put you in contact with them.

Shoemaker quoted me a great price, and they did a really nice job on my Sprint so looks like I will be taking it to him next weekend. Finally! A light at the end of the tunnel (no pun intended) 😁 for this hull to be ready to put back together

Need to find some of the aluminum anodized trim for the gunnels, the original stuff is all faded. Been searching around doesn't seem to be carried by anyone or at least not online

The only color anodizing you can do that's UV proof is black (or clear, because there's no color to fade). You might just strip the color with EZ OFF oven cleaner and polish it.

I'm not really worried about it fading, boat will be covered indoors while not on the water. But if I can't find it in red will probably go that route

I’d go polished👍

I’ve seen black ano fade, almost purple and spotty. Definitely last longer than say red or gold but does still fade.

Black ano does fade, but there's a process to make it UV proof....look at all the doors/windows on commercial buildings and supermarkets, black anodized but they don't fade. It's not cheap, and it's not regular black ano. I have a customer who does jeep stuff and everything aluminum is black UV anodized....looks the same 20 years later after living in the sun.

The process is different...instead of using organic or inorganic dyes with a sealer like you do for normal colors, you need to use an AC electrolytic coloring process which basically is stannous sulphate...very few do this.

I don’t think they make it anymore, if I was doing it I would take the molding off you have and have it powdercoated to match the rest of your rigging, just don’t try and straighten it or anything, leave it bent the way it is, right off right back on

Friend of mine here in Vegas, did the floors and set the intake, also did the rounded keel. He's a talented guy
Did you do a round keel on your Sprint? Just curious...........I'm currently building a Sprint myself.

No I left the delta pad, friend of mine with a Sprint put one on his. I haven't heard that it was life changing. I asked Shoemaker about it way back when I was building mine, he suggested to leave it alone.

No, just the cap area and the transom where all the holes from the outboard were filled. Other than that it is original
What’s Greg charging to cap the boat, have a friend wanting to do his Cheyenne

I would call him for a quote. With all the work I had done, holes filled etc it was a hair over 6K

Very reasonable price considering all the work involved and cost of materials etc..just the thought of all that sanding makes me tired......haha

Clarify life changing........
Loose, sketchy, dangerous disastrous can all be "life changing".........😆😆😅
I would talk to Jeff Bennett if truly serious, then talk w/someone that's done it and get their experience of the difference/results to see if they align w/your goals. The sprints are great looking hulls but being such a shallow v with very little rocker it's my understanding they get sketchy fast. Just because you can doesn't mean you should comes to mind. Haha. It likely comes down to...you can... but if your going to spend that kinda money to make that hull do what you want you'll be money/time ahead to find a hull better suited to do what you want much more safely from it's inherent design....ie...tunnel hull or Roger's type v- bottom..

Probably just get the shoe depth correct and leave the rest alone. I really don't have the desire to "hang it out" anymore. LOL

Smart choice. Especially on the lakes and rivers where help is a long ways away if you find yourself skidding slideways or tumbling across the water or worse. Ruins a lot of people's day.
