One of my best friends from college recently changed jobs (he's a marketing consultant) and one of his new duties is partnering with a company that sells 34k electric zero turn mowers. He said they could mow for about 2 hours per charge. He had to attend some kind of roll out meeting put on by the state of California. During the meeting the lady that was running the program for the state went over the rules and my friend asked that since they were only banning the sale and not the use of ICE mowers could he just open up a large mower shop across the state lines and make a shit ton of money. The lady said from the state said they hadn't considered that and the meeting abruptly ended.

Also he mentioned the proposed tax credit was I think around 2k. So spend 34k per mower to save 2k in taxes.

Ya. I have already thought about that. Vegas is gonna have some good sales. But then again Vegas will prob follow ca. how many mowers u think are gonna come across the border to a blind eye. They will come w the avocados and flowers that apparently are a 100% legal, yet I get questioned what’s in my ice chest when I go across state lines…. Or better yet, you better not be transporting firewood across county lines. End of rant. lol

I've been needing/wanting a Honda EU2000/2200 generator. Not CARB legal. Went to Vegas, to the lawn mower shop there. They wouldn't sell me one, even if I paid cash and didn't want the warranty. They told me they couldn't sell it to me, so there must be some legalities to your idea.

Great, now they will rewrite the BS law.

Just another reason to leave this BS state and it's BS laws that do nothing but pad the pockets of those who align with the democRats.

Huh ?? You had to present an ID to purchase a Honda genny in NV ?? Was this a sin you confessed prior to purchase ? Come back with cash ?

People are always ahead of the government, and it will stay that way.

I had an engine built for my boat and I traded in the 502 that came with it. When I got all my paper work back it was listed as a rebuild. I asked about this and was told he re used the bracket that held the throttle cable so it could be counted as a rebuild. Otherwise I would have had to pay I think he said around 12k in fees if it was new.

When I used to do V8 engine swaps into newer small cars and S-10’s and whatever (In Alaska) I’d always use sbc blocks with casting numbers that matched pre smog novas and Chevelles and other “performance” pre smog cars.
At the referee station they’d look up the casting number and run the sniffer based on the engine doner vehicle.
Easy peasy.
Im sure laws have changed but your point is correct.
(My daily driver 350 luv truck took down many a big block Chevelle back in the day)

Yep. Walked in, said I want one, they went to get the generator and the paperwork. Girl at the counter turned around, asked me where I was from, told her Cali, she said they couldn't sell it to me since they aren't legal here. Had to have my BIL, (vegas resident) walk back in with me, HE had to hand her the cash and fill out warranty paperwork.

In Cali in the 90's, they went by what was offered in the car...4cyl to v8 Mustang swaps for instance were easy, as long as it "passed visual". A 92 Ford Ranger however, required all the smog equipment from the mustang of the year of the motor, but the motor had to be the same year or newer than the host. The referee trip sucked on those.

Also, back then, if you happened to have a 513 in an 83 Mustang, you just had to know who to smog your car. In the case of our group, it was an Asian fellow, with a shop. In the back of his shop was a 6cyl Supra with the biggest turbo any of us had seen:oops: Looked like a damn Paxton!

I see, good to know. Guess I'll have to bring cash and use my Havasu address when I buy one in AZ 👍

At least they pushed the Genny ban out till 2028, but not sure how bad the 2024 regs are going to impact the models available ?

I sell/install artifical turf. A lot of my customers have mentioned that their gardeners have already warned them that the monthly service cost is going up because new equipment, batteries and mosty the high cost of keeping old gas mower running.

We use blowers, compactors powerbrooms etc. as well

Good Ole Cali

will be interesting to see how this actually plays out

Illegal smog's were easier back then, these days you have to jump through a few hoops just to find a guy.

What’s next? Battery powered generators?

I really should have taken a picture of it but at Dumont, the machine that sells passes is solar powered but the batteries won’t run it all night so they installed a streetlight right above the solar panel. I shit you not.

I have a neighbor here in our liberal SoCal city who is on the city council. He was walking his dog as I was using a gas powered leaf blower to clean up the leaves in our front yard. I stopped what I was doing to be polite and to chat with him as he passed by. He asked me about the blower and I told him it worked great and it made the task much more efficient. He mentioned the small engine ban to me and I shrugged it off. I told him I was still going to use my Echo blower and I really didn't care to switch to an electric blower. I think I caught him off guard as he wasn't expecting me to say that. LMAO!! He mentioned something about citations and I told him I didn't really care....I was going to continue to use this gas blower anyways. 🤣 Long story short, I think he was a little surprised at my stance on the topic. He continued on his merry way and I fired that little two stroke up like a villain and finished what I was doing. 🤣

Business decision or is the writing on the wall for all small engines?

I have a two stoke leaf blower, weed whacker and chain saw. All that has ever broken are fuel lines.

With no water in California for the pee ons to water with, the problem just seems smaller to me in my world.

Do you mind telling which shop it was? PM me if you want.

I am surprised they don’t have this at glamis yet or some type of toll both you drive through to make sure you have a pass I am sure it’s coming

It’s going to be interesting because the suppliers have already anticipated the new regs. Honda didn’t bother with the carb certification on the latest inverters. If the others have changes in the works they’ll pull even more supply out of the market.

It’ll be really interesting. The homeowner market has a ton of viable options for cordless. They work pretty well for small/medium yards. There’s not much out there, if anything being tested for landscapers. The conversion for commercial landscapers is gonna be a tough one.

Honda makes a CARB compliant version of that exact generator. It is more expensive, but it is CA legal.

Amazon will drop it off to your door.

I want to know what the RV market is going to do with gas generators on new RVs. Are you going to have to go out of state to get a generator installed? One rule opens up a can of worms with no regard to the consumer!

If you told him a gas powered leaf blower gives great blow jobs maybe he woulda been more interested. The liberal disorder spreads like stupidity - it's everywhere

You should have told him that the general population using electric leafblowers will put out more pollution from the power plant than all the population running gasoline leafblowers on their own.

Let him chew on that. Electricity is not free and it has to come from somewhere. That somewhere might be a coal fired power station.

The stupidity is astounding - at my job in Torrance, the Regional Planning Dept. of LA County did not want me to use a diesel powered generator to power my trailer before I got the temp power installed. They wanted me to use an electric powered generator. WTF?

I don't know if Honda discontinued the TAG --- The "G" denoting a 50 state compliance, but all I can find on Honda's website or otherwise is a model TAN --- the "N" denoting 49 state.
