Another well known inmate lives close by but I dont want this thread to “spin out in the weeds” by mentioning who.
For some reason, much like seafood beef is more expensive when you get closer to the source. We just walked out of plantation they wanted 13 bucks a pound for fajitas. Steaks were closer to $16 a pound.
Well here we go. I went on the DMV website and filled out the change of address form on all my vehicles. Seems all that did was change the location to where they are sending my registration renewals.
Wow. That’s an innuendo from the past.Another well known inmate lives close by but I dont want this thread to “spin out in the weeds” by mentioning who.
That’s mostly in San Antonio. Is Tex-Mex food still a thing and is it better in Texas?
It's early and I'm trying to like it, I really am. But I have a bad taste in my mouth over the forced move. The people are quite nice in my experience. I had someone apologize profusely for not holding the door for me because he didn't see me. Drivers in my area are quite different than Ca. Folks allow each other to merge when appropriate rather than going out of their way to close the gaps like they do in Ca. People actually dim their high beams for oncoming traffic. I don't know about the rest of Ca, but this was really an issue in the high desert. The roads are in great condition compared to Ca, it seems they use their gas and registration taxes to keep them up. Ca roads were beating the crap out of my cars. A funny thing about restaurants, in Ca, the booths are pretty tight, especially if you're a hefty person. Here, the seats in booths are pretty far from the tables. I've seen more people out here have to sit with their legs apart to accommodate hanging bellies than I've ever seen in my life. It seems harder to find healthy alternatives in restaurants. Usually, that's not an issue for us because if we're going out to eat, it's to splurge a bit. Right now, we're living out of the travel trailer due to some work we're having done on the house, (paint, driveway expansion, electrical work). As a result, we're eating out quite a bit and BBQ every day is not an option. My wife is getting eaten alive by mosquitoes. Something about her blood type. They don't touch me, she can't walk to the car without getting bit up. To the point that her body is producing so much histamines that her ear closed up. Hopefully anaphylaxis doesn't follow. She's trying all kinds of stuff to keep them away without much luck. Prices seem pretty similar to my area of Ca, meat is actually more expensive here. I think the only thing I'm really saving on is gas and car insurance. Housing prices seem similar to the high desert, but if I'm being honest, I'm in a nicer neighborhood than I was before. Hopefully my arrival doesn't drive down home values. How's it going otherwise? I know it's still early, but tell us a little about your experience there so far. How are the people? How are the drivers? How are the roads? Cost of food compared to CA? How is the food at restaurants compared to CA? etc...
I love to hear other peoples experiences. Thank you.
I encountered Tex-Mex a few years ago on a work trip out here and have done my best to avoid that crap since. I'm not a fan. I prefer Mex-Mex.Is Tex-Mex food still a thing and is it better in Texas?
X2 on skin so soft and “after bite” for itch cream.2 things for the mosquitoes. Either avons skin so soft or deep woods off 30% deet or better
Smart man avoiding the Tex mex. It’s trash. At least this summer is cooler than the previous two years! It's early and I'm trying to like it, I really am. This is cooler? Ugh, this humidity sucks.Smart man avoiding the Tex mex. It’s trash. At least this summer is cooler than the previous two years!
Yes. By a long shot. Last year was the second hottest ever and 2022 wasn’t much better. 47 days above 100 last year. This is cooler? Ugh, this humidity sucks.
San Antonio is far from you. But this place is damn good.Smart man avoiding the Tex mex. It’s trash. At least this summer is cooler than the previous two years!
I like the look of it. Hope to get down there before we bail.San Antonio is far from you. But this place is damn good.

Can you share the formula? @angiebaby forgot the amounts of the stuff she used to make and has not been able to replicate her perfect blend. It worked exceptionally well and smelled good. I hate using DEET.My cousin lives in Texas and this is what she uses in a spray bottle to keep from getting bit.
Water, coconut oil, ecualputus, citronella, rosemary, you could also add
lavender in the mix.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen Mexican food with a dress code before.I like the look of it. Hope to get down there before we bail.
If anyone wants high end Mexican in DFW, The Mexican is fantastic. Best I’ve had so far.
I don't think she truly measures it but I will ask roughly the amounts she usesCan you share the formula? @angiebaby forgot the amounts of the stuff she used to make and has not been able to replicate her perfect blend. It worked exceptionally well and smelled good. I hate using DEET.
That’s what I said when my wife took me there for our anniversary. It’s worth it though. If you’ve been to Javiers, it’s that, but better IMO.Don’t think I’ve ever seen Mexican food with a dress code before.
I use lemongrass also. I've just never been able to get back to the original formula I made that smelled so good.I don't think she truly measures it but I will ask roughly the amounts she uses
Pm sent for inspection. Granted they are in Denton TX. small drive from AzleI’m on the Parker side of it, also in the county I’m told. Funny that my window tint got me failed on my inspection. I went to a shop recommended by a coworker after we had lunch down in Midlothian and got failed. Can you recommend a place that won’t hassle me about tint? I don’t have limo, just 18%. PM if you prefer.
Funny you should mention that joint (El Paseo). We made the decision to try it based on it being busy. It was Tex-Mess, it was not bad, but my wife was not a fan. I'm still not a fan of Tex-Mess, but this seemed like a better version. Kinda like the Patio, it's a one and done experience. The cicadas are crazy loud, when I first got out here, I was sleeping in the travel trailer in the driveway (told you guys I was going to be the trashiest neighbor on the block) and woke up to the sound of what I thought was the AC on my house failing. I walked outside to find it was these bugs that were loud as shit.I call bug spray Texas cologne. I dont even walk outside before covering up. I buy “off” repelant by the case on amazon. Keep a can in every car. I mean it is the south. Nothing new here. How bout them zekadas? Loud little bastards. Lol. Get invaded by frogs at your place? I pull 5 frogs from my pool everyday. Gonna start charging rent.
The drivers here are a special kind of stupid. I deal with it everyday all day so I’m always on alert. Everything is a drag race. And none of them know what a yield sign is
Yes this is cooler. Last year was unbearable! Lot more rain this spring and the bugs are out in force Try driving a dump truck with no A/C.
The mexican joint on 199 next to the auto repair place must be good. Its always packed at night
We had real fireworks in the high desert, year round. They'd set that shit off even after setting the damned desert on fire. With the fire department on scene. No fucks given.Wait till tomorrow night, they have real fireworks out here. It sounds like a damn war zone. Lol
Quick update; wife was feeling homesick for the holidays and still hasn't got her nursing license transfer complete (this has been frustrating). So, I sent her home to visit family and friends. She had a good time, but when I picked her up she said, "I'm home".
What we left isn't how she remembered it, we're in a better place now. From friendly people, to nicer area, to just overall feel. She told me she got it out of her system and is happy here in Texas. (minus the nursing board dragging their feet).
Just wanted to share a happy story about the move.
Oh, and I paid $2.26 for gas, so there's that. We're going to go to the gulf coast for a short vacation. It's about twice the drive as Ventura was, but I didn't see any warnings about having to lock all my shit up at night in the campground due to roaming bands of zombies picking through campsites.
Shoot, that video actually made me less scared. I'm not too interested in going in that water. There's a whole lot of chemical plants right there on the coast. I might venture in anyway, we'll see how warm it is. I went once as a kid and remember it being pretty warm. But did see the warnings about going IN the water?
Glad to hear you guys enjoying it there. When you're stuck in SoCal, you forgot there is a whole Different world out there!
