This is the day. Company announced we were moving right as I was finishing up some home improvements that we had waited years to do. I guess that worked in our favor, the house sold fairly quickly at a reasonable price. I’ve been here my whole life save for 2 years going to school in Phoenix. Most people we talk to are excited for us. We’re both kinda sad. I started this job to leave California, but I was aiming for Havi. Life had its own plan and we ended up staying and I took a different path within the company. Now, 18 years later we’re being uprooted from all we know. We’ve said our goodbyes and are hitting the road in a few minutes. I’ll miss being near family and all that’s familiar, but I intend to embrace what’s new and enjoy the adventure (and cheap gas). Here we go!

Its a blessing to get out of California....I am sure you will get settled and start enjoying life again in no time....I wish I could get my wife to agree to leave, she doesn't necessarily love California, but she absolutely despises change.....good luck and safe travels!

Since George Strait sang about all his ex’s living in Texas there has to be some good looking women there looking for the next guy.

Obviously doesn’t apply to Kachina26 but one can enjoy the scenery at least.

You gotta roll right past Havasu, it’s not too late!!! It only takes a 10,000# these days to hold the east end 🤣🤣🤣
Have a safe drive and bid to DS10 or 11 so you see what you’re missing!

Now you can start talking down to all of us who remain and tell us how great your life is and how California sucks. lol
I’ll probably just bitch about the humidity, higher sales tax & property tax. Maybe I’ll brag about what I paid for gas from time to time. Or being able to exercise my 2a without a permission slip.

Best of luck on your new adventure brother. I personally can't do humidity, it's just plain nasty, and I hope it's not year round! 😱

It's a huge decision, and no doubt you didn't make it lightly.

Embrace the change! 👍🏼👍🏼

I've gotten pretty good at this. Just ask Bobby or Joe. 😁

You started off like the rest of the whining bitches, but you've clearly accepted your fate.

Family first. 👍🏼👍🏼

High Desert, Hesperia. It was nice when we moved up there 31 years ago. The commute to the Inland Empire was getting worse every year. My hours weren’t bad, but my wife was having to leave 1.5 - 2 hours early to make it to work on time.

Ugh.

My good friend lives in Wrighwood. They have jacked that whole section of the 15 up so bad it's unreal.

You sure won't miss that commute! 😱

My brother was up there around then too. Ralph's pharmacy director.
Hard to leave a well rooted place for you guys but I'm betting on it being better than you think it Tx. Best of luck to you👍

No problem, they’ll have your forwarding address……
They'll come after you for all the money you made there up until 6/14/2024. They tried to come after me for the whole year at first! CPA had some finangling to do for some reason (his software didn't support it either) but made it work and I only paid up until my move date. I was honest about the date because I could prove it if asked.

We established residency here in NH March of 2023. Wife had a couple of adjustment checks from working in CA that were disbursed in 2023 after we moved. Well doing our taxes in April for 2023 tax year CA withheld their taxes which shouldn't have been. We got a few hundred back. BNAG!!!

So in other words, you got a refund, so you made money there and will need to file another CA return for 2024. JK. Maybe who knows lol!

Newsom has already dispatched his CalExit team.

I manually file taxes. That first year was a pain. The next year was a breeze (no further ties to CA, so only Fed return needed). File a change of address online with CA DMV. Best advice i can give, is keep every bit of documentation related to anything from your California life. I'm sure you'll need it to support some agency requesring owed money.

As long as you can prove you were a resident of Texas for more days than CA, you only owe CA income taxes for those specific number of days.

Make sure HR has you recorded as a TX based employee.

This is very good advice about the DMV.
even after I notified them and registered my vehicles in TX, they sent me renewals, late notices, and threats to seize any assets in CA every year for 3 years.

They seized my bank account when I moved my truck to Az years ago.
