No one is saying that Americans should be able to break the law internationally. She broke the law and should be accordingly punished. 10 years in a Russian prison for less that 0.5g of hash oil is not reasonable, that deserves a citation and a fine, move on. Don't confuse me with people saying that she didn't do anything wrong, she fucked up 100%

On the contrary…. It’s their country, they set the laws and punishments for a reason.

If Otto Warmbier were smarter than a rock, he would be alive today. Fair to say or not?

Just because another country has laws on the books, doesn't mean those laws are just. If Dave Rubin and his husband went to Saudi Arabia and were prosecuted and sentenced to death for homosexuality, should the US respond by saying "tough shit, shouldn't have broken their laws?" As a major player on the world stage, the US State Department should be involved in ensuring that US Citizens are treated in a reasonable manner, regardless of their political views and opinions about America.
Do you think the U.S. should demand all U.S. Citizens be held legally accountable for their actions, according to the laws here in the U.S., regardless of where they are or what country they are in?

Should the U.S. respect the laws of other nations, and enforce them here according to citizenship?

I totally agree.... But 10 years? lol

Maybe they are actually serious about keeping people from smuggling drugs into their country. Think we would have as big of a drug problem if we put away people for 10 years for bringing in illegal drugs?

Instead we write them a ticket, or release them with no bail in some places.

It is not our country, we don’t have a say in the rules.

Case in point, the two guys caught with 150,000 Fentanyl pills and were let go on their OR I'm sure they'll show up for their court dates.

Didn’t Nevada and Arizona have some stiff marijuana laws a decade or so ago?

Some responses to subjects on this forum are so predictable it’s laughable.

SA? When I was in the KSA I was afraid to try and look at Porn on the internet 😂😂

Seems to me, using a little logic - Chick should have known to leave that shit at home.

She thinks she’s a celebrity and with her sense of entitlement she really didn’t think she’d get busted, maybe just a hand slap. Ha, she got that one wrong! If she was a patriot and showed that she loved her county there’d be all sorts of support to get her freed, but all she did was badmouth the country that she is representing, so she made her bed, now she needs to lay in it. If I worked for the State Department, her file would always be on the bottom of the stack or it would get misplaced. Sucks to be her.

Last year she complained how shitty Russian weed was, and packed her own this time around.
KGB was pissed, and here we are.
Well that changes things. She had every right to bring in drugs illegally since the Russian drugs are that bad. Makes perfect sense. 🤪

And I'll never forget in the late 60's, the huge illuminated billboard you'd see approaching Vegas on I15, advertising how screwed you'd be if caught. Couldn't say how many years it remained.

We still have Americans bringing firearms into Mexico, and we stand behind them. 😜

We are far past what is legal and what’s not. She purchased the hash oil legally. She lives in a state the drug is legal to purchase. It was small quantity for personal use. She’s young and clueless.

I’m waiting for her to wear a Dennis Rodman t-shirt.

Your comparing that 10 year sentence to what we are used to in the USA.

Russia is not the USA.

This is why I sometimes mock the mob on here when they call for killing parents and lynching people.
This is what happens in countries all around the world.
Some places they’d cut her head off.

My standards are pretty simple. Know the laws of wherever you may end up. Know the punishments for the crimes, and determine only then if you are willing to risk the outcome. Basic logic, regardless of your perceived fame.
The problem is, some people are given passes, due to their fame. They grow accustomed to that, but their fame means nothing in another country.

The only time I had heard her name was a few years back. Her and her now wife were in a knock down, drag out...both arrested on domestic violence charges. The "wife" had charges dropped, Griner plead out and had anger classes.

I wish I could like this twice.

RDP - Thieves should be killed… unless they are RDP members.

Also RDP - Illegals smuggling drugs should be killed.

Also RDP - Democrats should be killed

Also RDP - Negligent parents should be hung and imprisoned for life.

Also RDP- 10 years for smuggling drugs into a foreign country?? That does not fit the crime!!!

You've mentioned this a couple times. Can you fill the class in, or is it something that can never be spoken like saying GRADS GRADS GRADS?

Most every theft thread folks pop in and say thieves should be killed.

Catalytic converter threads, tools threads, robbery threads, tweakers stealing copper threads.

A member gets caught up in some theft charges… silence. Clemency granted from RDP!

I totally get that no one is *completely* serious about their calls for death to thieves… but @was thatguy knows what I’m talking about 😉.

Yeah, that is why I don't get the secrecy. Are we talking about the COP that was accused of stealing money from the union? If he actually stole money, then fuck that guy no matter how cool some people think he is or was. No respect for thieves coming from me. Or are we talking about a member here actually stealing personal property from another member? I do think there is a difference between embezzlement and actual theft of physical property.

When you break it down to their simplest form. Both are taking shit that isn't yours.

I don't see any difference. Theft is theft.

Yes the cop. I am with you, but theft is theft, and death is death. It really isn’t about theft, it’s more about the mob mentality calling for peoples heads at the slightest inclination.

Theft is theft for sure. We agree. The penalty for each should match the crime. I see a clear cut differenct between a tweaker cutting off my cats or stealing my stuff vs stealing money from a collective. One is very personal, the other is more of a group share the pain and suffereing type deal, which is also more than likely backed by insurance.

So "white collar" theft should be losing a finger because it was keystrokes on a computer...
Cat theft should be the same Sawzall to cut off their hand?

Nah, axes for both!

I'd be willing to bet there are many, many American citizens in foreign jails that have not or never will get exposure or our governments support. Griners case is well known only because she has access to media due to her profession, doubt 99% of other incarcerated have that. So far her "poster child" status hasn't helped much & perhaps has even inflamed her position with Americans....as well confims to many other countrys' citizens how so many Americans think their shit don't stink.

Seen a few episodes of "Locked Up Abroad". Not that I'm going anywhere, but if I did, I'd be a saint! Middle east has swords, Asia has sticks and some Russian prisons have guard dogs that look like werewolves!
Nope!

Sure. And the 10 year old that takes a candy bar without paying for it should have his hands cutoff right? Theft is theft.

She doesn't have to worry about being in prison in Russia for long - she's checks all the boxes to be a woke agenda, poster-girl for the LIBTURDS:
* "Reverend Al Sharpton" is helping her (himself as always)
* She's GAY
* She's BLACK
* She's RICH
* She's a BASKETBALL PLAYER
