Just had it serviced. The starter is engaging but it just huffs and cranks. Hoping it's a loose wire or something simple.

Lanyard/Safety switch? May have happened to me once.
Was the fuel filter primed when it was serviced. A dry filter will cause that.
I'm guilty of a lanyard switch being in the kill position a time or two myself. :D

I'm not sure if it was primed or not. He said it fired up when they tried it at the shop. :/

Sorry, that’s pretty much my only go to.
I called the shop from the launch ramp. Not quite screaming but close. They said check the switch, i said sorry.

Hope it’s something easy.

The shitty fuel around these days? If you have a carburetor, it can mess it up during just a short term of storage.

My signal wire from the MSD box to the distributor came loose. I made a post about it saying "no spark from MSD box". Easy fix, I felt dumb though 😂

Good luck

Use a primer bulb between tank and fuel pump. Prime it and get through the weekend. Remove it later. They sell them at most the markets on the river. I bought one at Riverland. Switched fuel tanks and lost prime years ago. Got towed to Riverland as it was 100 yards away.

It’s either ignition or fuel so dump a little bit of gasoline down the top at the back up and if it starts to fire and that’s like a fuel if not, it’s going to be ignition

Negative. =(

I can't understand why no one suggested the obvious. Did you try a different prop?

* I would check EVERY connection. for tightness. start at the front and cover ever connection on the motor.

Let us know the fix, when you find out. Best of luck.

Can you provide details and maybe a picture?

Carb or EFI? Any power adder? MSD ignition or ? Blue motor, if so which one?

Check all your plug wires, check the coil wire, do a test and pull a plug wire and crank the engine while you hold it next to the manifold. See spark or not?

You getting fuel pressure? Like on a gauge or hear the pump run?

Another thing you can do if you verify spark is spray some quick start into it while cranking. May fire up enough to prime fuel system, or prove its not getting fuel.

If it's the Eliminator most likely a merc. Wiggle the shifter a little each direction. Could be the neutral switch. But my original thought is still fuel. Dry lock from the service. The primer Like they use in a 2 stroke outboard got me up and running.

Not knowing what engine/computer of yours is, but if it's a Mercruiser with 555 ECM, get a wrench and check the hot lead on the starter for tightness on the square 90Amp fuse. If the nut not tight, the starter will turn the engine over but the ECM won't send the signal to fire up the engine.

That sucks, hope you get it figured out and are able to enjoy the holiday.
Thanks. We don't go out on the holidays but we are headed to Parker Wednesday. Hopefully I can get someone to see it by then but everyone is closed today.

I tried that. If it's out of neutral it won't even crank. It's cranking but not starting.

EFI 454 with MSD ignition. Checked all the wires and nothing I can see or reach is loose.

Has others have said ,check for fuel/feul pressure.
Lately when my friends sits for a week or two we have to pull off the line and cycle the pump a few times to get it to prime.

Call Lance Oster, a local LHC guy. Runs a shop at his house, Bucket Marine. Lance is a good guy and may provide a solution over the phone. Typically, he's a big engine guy. But, willing to help anyone, when he's available. 928 486 8637

Take the wire from the coil off the middle of the cap, close to ground, turn key on, tap white MSD wire to ground on and off, do you get spark?

This, everyone I know that’s running an MSD box carries a spare. They are that dependable.
I lost 3 in one weekend once…and the last one about set the boat on fire…burned all the insulation off the main 10g power feed from the battery to the box…sent back to MSD since it was 30 minutes old…they replaced the wire and sent it back.lol

Step 1: starter fluid......started = fuel issue
...no start = check spark
Step 2: pull a plug check for spark...
.....no spark = sell the boat

Kidding.... But seriously as mentioned do the starter fluid check.
