I only know a few peeps down there personally, but reading about the accident gave me that sinking feeling I felt when losing one of my crew workers. I think Pesky Varmint nailed it in #116. I echo that sentiment.
Godspeed to family, friends and community.

I did not read a single post, prior to this post. That said, Connie is in Phoenix, alive and in a Barrows Neurological Institute. Prayers for now, we have reached out to the family to support them. We are Phoenix based and will be checking in on her daily. Prayers!!

So very sad. Unable to effectively put it in words. Lickity Split crew are long time Boat Bling customers but beyond that have become good friends over the past couple years.

Our thoughts are with the families and Connie at this time.

I told myself I was not going to watch it, but you can’t really see anything. Tried to focus on what wave might have a caused issues, but could not see anything.
That was my thought after watching it. I personally felt like it cleared the air that nothing crazy was happening, it was just a shitty set of circumstances (waves/wakes) that conspired against them.

Happy to remove the link if they want me to, I'm just linking to where someone had posted it.

Or the mods can remove the link from the post.

I don't know the boat or the operators but my condolences go out to the friends and family of them. Many of us take real risks in both our professions and our hobbies. As long as the risks are known and understood that should be left as their choices. To leave this world doing something you love is not the worst way to go. I also hope that events like this do not end a incredible sport that so far has remained fairly unregulated.

Rest in peace.....

Hey guys, most of the reason that I didn’t want the video on here is it starts a bunch of speculation on the how it happened on here.

Brad was a friend to quite a few members on here and most are still reeling and in shock of the whole situation, those emotions are only rising as the reality and finality of it is setting in.

I’m going to remove the link and the two posts.

I do appreciate the fact that nothing negative was said, but it is obviously a very sensitive situation and it’s a pretty fine line to walk. In short a lot of guys on here are grieving and I don’t want something getting misinterpreted.

For those that have not crashed a boat, trust me, sometimes there is no real explanation. I barrel rolled my race boat in Mission Bay and to this day I really have no idea why shit went down the way it did, I took the lap and turn the same way I had on the previous ten laps, but this time something in the forces of nature and forces of mechanical parts changed and next thing you know your upside down. I was doing 80 and it was over as fast as it happened, never saw it coming, didnt know what happened until I was sitting on the rescue boat. At the speeds they were traveling I am sure it was already too late before they even knew what happened.

My condolences go out to the 2 men that passed, terrible tragedy. Hoping his wife pulls through.
My friends were the one's that rolled near sand bar, George, Brad, Mike and Wally are all sore and have some cuts but they are all fine, thank God.

God speed to those who lost their lives and I hope and pray for a speedy recovery for the wife injured.

I personally did not know the two men thathat tragically lost their lives but my hats off to River Dave and others that do not want the video posted. It will bring nothing but more pain and suffering to the family and others who have been hurt regarding this event. Maybe someone that is way more tech experience then me can start a thread and people can post pictures they have of the deceased as a tribute thread. Just my thought.

Very sad. Serious question: What normally happens to boats like this - one of a kind, involved in a fatality that did not involve the boat owner, recovered? Surely this is not the first circumstance like this in powerboat/offshore boating?

I would imagine they sit for awhile while everyone grieves and then they are dismantled for the usable parts and the rest scrapped.

Are you asking if the insurance is in effect when the owner is not operating?
Some of our past policies varied.
Some covered anyone behind the wheel, some only who was listed on the policy.
Medical coverage is usually the weakest point on the basic coverage so we juice the coverage up and pay the additional cost.

I'm not an insurance expert by any means, but we have several on the board.

Generally boats like this will be "named operator" policies. What that means is not just anyone can jump in and drive the boat. They will have a short list of people that are able too, that have been verified (as much as possible by the way) by the insurance company. The verification process can be anything simple like a "driving resume" all the way up to requiring that they may have to take a driving course like Tres Martin.

If I had to guess I would say the owner of the boat JP / Brad & Tony from DCB were probably on that list.

Rd, you are 100% correct, and this goes for most auto insurance policies too. You have to be named on the policy for coverage.

Not entirely true on auto policies. Most companies that are worth a damn have "permissive use" coverage that allows you to lend your vehicle to someone. Now, if someone has regular access to your vehicles and you neglect to list them, you may run into trouble. That situation is quite common with 16 year old kids.

Well I would imagine the Boat and parts stay with the owner of the boat JP. Brad did not own this Boat but drove it frequently

Did they bring the boat up or is still on the bottom?

Just watched the RDP desert storm 2018 video, seeing this footage of Lickety Split was pretty eerie:

When the boat crashed, it started out just like what was pictured above - a gentle leap above water, flying flat and looking controlled, and re-entering just as pictured above , slightly listing to one side. He had probably flown that boat a hundred times just like that with zero issue. It makes me sick . Goes to show you just never know when times up. RIP and Godspeed
